What is your movement goal for this week?
Given that we are all on the heavier side, lets be kind to ourselves and start with moving!
What do you wish to accomplish?
Me? Walking the stairs for 15 minutes every day I'm at work. (I'm a nurse).

I am working on my fitness I have been doing aerobic one day, strength training the 2nd and then the 3rd day biking on my stationary bike and have the 4th day off and repeat, so far I have been doing well keeping this up but it is super hard when everyone around you is not supportive or helpful for that matter, but each day I do my exercise i feel better.
So I will be working on keeping my scheduled workouts.1 -
While I have been working out, I am trying to incorporate little instances of movement I didn't before. For example, if I go somewhere, I purposefully park at the back of the parking lot so that I have to walk further to get to and from my destination, and if I watch something I dvr'd, instead of fast forwarding through the commercials, I walk up and down my stairs until they are done.2

Beginning December 29th, I have missed only 2 days at the gym! I try to vary my exercises, but four days per week I do 45 minutes to an hour of cardio (either treadmill or elliptical) and 3 days per week I do 20 - 30 minutes cardio plus strength training using the weight machines. I’ve seen that, even less than a month in, my endurance has increased significantly. I also have more energy during the day an am sleeping better! I really want to be a runner someday and once I’m hoping to start at least jogging by next year.1

@Mellykay88 If you are looking into running, try a c25k (couch to 5k) program!0

@GothicsDarkAngel Walking up the stairs instead of using the elevator every morning is one I keep meaning to do and then conveniently "forgetting" in the morning! I'm going to have to get onto myself about that.
I also joined the YMCA, but I haven't been yet... Gyms are scary.1 -
@rabidhamster87 I know the feeling! The gym is so intimidating at first! I promise though, once you start going, it won’t be so scary anymore. I finally joined a gym in December and the first day I felt like a total imposter, but after I kept going back, I noticed people of all shapes and sizes and all fitness levels and nobody was judging. Everyone was just working on whatever their goals are. After almost a month it’s totally my happy place!2

Going strong in doing the stairs at work. Today I'm doing 2 15 minute sessions (for a total of 30 minutes).3
-
@GothicsDarkAngel Awesome!
So far so good for me this week walking each day. I've been getting about 50 minutes in over the day.2 -
I love going for walks in this park near my house, so I'm just waiting until daylight lasts longer so I can go after work (or even before work, imagine???). But until then, I've been alternating interval workouts and tae bo on you tube for the past couple of weeks.
I want to work my way up to going to the gym. I am so self conscious about working out in front of people that I haven't been able to go, even though I've had a membership for 2 years. I just need to get over myself and just go!2 -
Made it to 50 minutes on the elliptical today!! I wasn’t feeling it at first, so I set a goal to go 30 minutes... made it there and well, I guess I could do 45... made it there and said may as well get to 4 miles. My legs are jelly but it feels great!

@mellykay88 Thats awesome! The ellipticals at PF are my go to as well. If I ever find time to make it there11
-
Good job everyone! Especially for going to the gym. I can't imagine that right now.
I have this super exhausting life right now where I work all day and drive my kids to practices until 10:30 most nights. This week I won't use it as an excuse. My goal is to walk the dog to the end of my street today, Thursday and Friday. I'm going to have to dig in because I hate exercise and I'm not a fan of be no outside either (which I know is pathetic) like I'd rather never eat chocolate again than do ten push-ups. Here goes something!3 -
@kwiris0328 it is so hard to get started! That’s probably the hardest part. The trick is finding a routine that works for you... something you won’t talk yourself out of doing.1

^agreed! Find something you don't hate. And remember, it all counts. So that pacing around a hospital while you're waiting for a prescription pounds as much as a walk in the park. See what you can do. I walked for 20 mins around Costco the other day. I count it!

I once walked a mile in Lowe’s because I could find the stupid screws and wire and I didn’t want to ask for help (I’m stubborn).1
-
I took the weekend off at the gym because I was feeling terrible. Turns out I’m anemic due to a very heavy period (sorry guys, TMI) which landed me in the Emergency room on Friday. They gave me some medicine that helped so I’m feeling better, but I was not 100% at the gym this morning. I have a Dr. Appt Friday so hopefully we can figure out what’s going on.4
-
Yikes! That must be some pretty serious anemia to have landed you in the ER. I bet you'll feel 1000% better when they get it straightened out. Hopefully it's something simple like a dietary deficiency. Maybe you can take some iron or B12 and call it a day!0
-
@rabidhamster87 That’s what I’m hoping. I’m also thinking maybe my hormones have gone wonky with the weight loss!0
-
@Mellykay88 I hope you feel better soon! And kudos for working out in spite of feeling awful.
@theowlbox I took your suggestion today and walked around and around my classroom peering over students shoulders. It's was 1000 extra steps! I'm going to keep looking for ways to add steps. A step goal might make it easier.
I did take my dog in a walk Monday as planned, and it was fine. I build it up in my head to be worse than it is.4 -
@Mellykay88 I bet you were super worn down feeling, with that bad anemia. Glad you went to the ER and got checked out. Let us know what your Dr. says, if you want.0
-
@kwiris0328 Good for you for getting some walking done. It will help you to feel good. I hope both you and your dog enjoyed your Monday walk.0
-
@Mellykay88 I’m anaemic too so I know that horrible feeling of dragging your self and about ten ton of invisible weights along to get anywhere. I hope your doctor can help you tomorrow.
As far as moving goes, I started out struggling to do 5 minutes on my exercise bike because the seat is so very uncomfortable but I’m now doing 25 minutes twice a day. Had a treadmill for a few days which meant that I was doing a good 30 to 40 minutes a day on that but it had to go back so now I’m waiting for the one I’ve bought to turn up on Saturday. I’m so excited about it because I was really enjoying walking along with my music full blast in my own little world and I think it’ll help no end, whereas I just have to make myself do the bike most of the time!
Hoping to do a little dog walk tomorrow but will see how confident I’m feeling and if it’s raining. The dogs won’t go out in the rain and I won’t go without them!1 -
@fatoldladyonamission You're doing fantastic!! I know what you mean about those bike seats. I guess you just have to get used to it. thinking of you, I might try adding the bike in at the gym. Surpurb on getting your own treadmill! Today's Saturday, so, I'm wondering if yours came in like it was supposed to. Let us know.
I made it to the gym 2 X this week and got on the elliptical machine 30 min, then 33 min the 2nd day. I did have medical appointments 2 X this week that inter-feared with my gym time.1 -
@amy_kee thank you for asking it did arrive today and it is awesome! I’ve totally overdone it by doing an hour and 20 minutes on it today, split into two parts, but I actually only walked 2.75 miles at about 2.5mph so there’s lots to do yet. I feel like I’ve overdone it but I just said to hubby that I’m going to keep doing it until it isn’t feeling like it’s overdoing it and then I’ll up it again. I’m hoping that within a month I’ll be able to do the first of the preset programmes, admittedly at a walk but with all the incline it’s supposed to have. The treadmill goes up one heck of an incline it seems but I only did a little bit of that today!
Just so you can see my pride and joy I’m going to try to attach a picture! So delighted with it, worth every penny of the almost £500 out of our savings! Whoops lol!

@fatoldladyonamission What a great looking teadmill. Looks like you have lots to play with on the dashboard. How nice that you have it in front of your window. You really broke it in well, with those 2 super walks. So glad you got this.1
-
@fatoladyonamission yay for the treadmill! It makes me want one, but I always tell myself I should walk my dog instead because it makes her so happy, and my weather leaves me no excuses either. Good job!
I walked my dog twice last week. I missed Friday, but I went shopping with my daughter and walked a mile around the mall, so that's something at least.
My goal this week is the same. Walk my dog to the end of the block on Monday, Wednesday, and and Saturday.
Plus I want to look into you tube videos. Maybe I can find one I like today and do one of those. I used to do Richard Simmons videos with my granny when I was a kid. I wonder if any of those are online. That might be retro fun.1 -
@kwiris0328 I should really walk my dog too but the weather isn’t great here and I’m too scared that I’ll get a bit away from home and then realise that I can’t make it back, so for now the treadmill it is and I’m sadly paying a dog walker! I’ve kinda decided that I will get to the point where I’m comfortably able to do 5 miles a time with some inclines and then try the dog walking properly. I’ve had some issues with so called friends being incredibly spiteful about my weight so I’m now super paranoid about being judged when I’m out. I need to be sure I can cope with a decent walk before I try it. I’m not too down about it though. I know I will get there as long as I keep working for it!
So nice to have so many supportive folks on here.1 -
@fatoldladyonamission I love the treadmill! I'm so sorry that your "friends" made you feel so betrayed and mistrustful though. People can be such jerks sometimes! How did your lunch go by the way?0
-
@fatoldladyonamission I am so sorry that you feel your friends judge you - that's a horrible feeling. But I am so glad that you have found a way to overcome that hurdle by using your treadmill. Don't ever let others stop your progress. You are rocking this!2
-
@fatoldladyonamission I think your treadmill plan is a great one! I've been thinking about yours and now I want one too. Your plan is solid and one day dog walks plus treadmill will be great exercise. And I'm sorry about your friends. One thing about being fat all of my life (except a few years in college) is that it made me immune to weight related criticism. It hurts so much even when the people are jerks! I couldn't care less what people think about my fat butt huffing it up the hill, but my kids and husband get so offended if anyone talks about me. That's sweet!1
