We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for January are:

Monday - GadgetGirlIL (Regina)
Tuesday - 88olds (George)
Wednesday - Beachwoman2006 (Cindy)
Thursday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Friday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)

Today's Topic: The Month in Review

January 2018 is in the books. Take a look at this past month. Are you happy with how it went? Did you make any "resolutions"? If so, how are those going?

January turned out to be pretty good for me. I met my first weight-loss goal of 5 pounds (actually a little over). I didn't set a goal to lose 5 pounds IN January -- just 5 pounds as a starting point. Now I will move on to the next 5 pounds. I'm still not within 2 pounds of my WW goal weight, but 5 pounds closer than I was the beginning of the month :)

We still need someone to take Tuesdays in February. If there are any newbies lurking out there, come on and join the fun. Those of us who have been doing this for a while are running out of steam (at least I know I am!) when it comes to thinking of topics :)

My main goal for January was to continue my streak of riding a 100K populaire each month for 12 consecutive months. Temperatures and road conditions were finally favorable last weekend so I got that done. I ended up with over 240 miles on my bikes outdoors which I'm very pleased with since I live in northern Illinois.

At the moment the scale is down, but I've also been battling a couple different viruses for nearly 3 weeks.

Well, January was a failure and a success. The failure was that I decided I can't do weight loss on my own right now. The success is that I restarted WW. Overall that's a good thing!

I remain below my WW goal weight, but above my personal target. Hopefully with a few months of focus I can get myself back to my happy weight.

January feels largely like a success. I don't feel as out of control as I did in December, but I'm still working on setting up a new normal (seriously, the move happened 3 months ago, I just want life to settle down!). I am proud of myself that I turned down 3 social requests in the last 24 hours. I think I'm getting better at regulating myself.

January was a success. Down 5.8 pounds. Was dealing with a couple of physical issues, and a med change, and still lost. :) Now to rinse and repeat.

January? Scale crept up a bit. Too many unscheduled trips to the fridge.

Think I turned it around. Didn’t weigh today. We’ll see tomorrow.

Last year I had one month with a net gain. So starting 2018 with s 1.8# net gain was NOT what I planned. My self diagnosis was to blame eating too much of Freestyle turkey chili with lots of canned beans, other canned soups and greatly reduced activity on my part.

I’m looking forward to my 1 February WI tomorrow. I keep learning how easy/Fast the weight appears and how long it takes to get rid of it.

I did resolve to get back to my activity level and I have gotten more active but still not back to my previous level.

January in weight loss was a success in that I was down 5 lbs. I'm discussed that I was up to that weight to begin with. The rest of a month was a blur because of my work. Things are looking up but my time is so limited that I have to get my priorities much higher and keep my focus on my tracking and losing weight.

    SW 400.8
    CW 321.0
    Next GW 300.0
    Final GW 185.0

    79.8 bs Total lost

January has been a rough month for me but I got through it not too worse for wear. Busy schedule was exacerbated by lots of snow chores, sub-freezing temps and grey skies: all the ingredients for depression for me. That used to lead to a lot of mindless eating. It still lead to eating, but more mindful so not a lot of adverse consequences.

In fact, I've finally started to turn around the incremental creep upward on the scale. Yeah, it was me getting a little too lax with the easing up on measuring, tracking BLTs, surprise surprise. I've also made a point of getting out for "fun" in the lousy weather as best I can. If I make the time for it, a walk or a snowshoe really helps offset the onset of a depressing downhill spiral. I can't always make it happen but I now know if I can, I'm better for it.

February is not looking to start off a whole lot better but realistically, it's still very much Winter in the Northeast and especially in lake-effect snow country. The frequent see-saw in weather from sub-freezing with snow to warmer than average with rain is driving me a little crazy, but following my own advice (what a concept), the only thing I absolutely do control is what I eat and drink. So I'll keep doing that and being mindful that I don't want to gain weight.

Lastly, I had my yearly physical yesterday and the doc cleared me for C25K training--in fact he highly encouraged it! How's your regimen going @Calvin2008Brian ??

Resolutions? No. I have had better months. A few too many eating affairs. Doing better now.
Scale down with flu then up with social events.

Taking a look at the entire month, I can see my downfall is social events. We have friends come visit for a few days, we go to someone's house for dinner or ... When it is just hubby and me, I'd doing OK. I don't want to ditch my friends, so I need to learn how to eat when I'm around them.

I'm down 2 lbs for the month. I'm 10 over my personal goal but below the ww goal.

Hey, Kim @minimyzeme! C25K is going well, thanks for asking. I'll log week 3 day 2 this evening. I like the structure and would recommend the program to anyone wanting to transition from walking to jogging.

Awesome Brian @Calvin2008Brian ! I just got cleared by my doc this week (he's a runner). Glad you're doing well with it. Good to hear your endorsement of it as I really want to succeed with it! Keep up the good work!
