The reason for tracking?

So everyone who has known me for very long knows how much I hate tracking. BUT, the first of the year I committed myself to tracking on MFP.
I was getting ready to have dinner and couldn't remember what I had for lunch! Went back to my tracker and found that I couldn't have as much for dinner as I thought. Just added a bunch of veggies and moved on.
This may be the first time I've actually realized the purpose of tracking.

Damn, that's a rough reality but hopefully it pays off for you @beachwoman2006 !1

100% agree. Tracking is really the one way I'm able to say "no" to myself!1

Same here. For me, I still sometimes go ahead and eat more than my points, but on average I eat less calories/points when I track. I’ve been tracking everything for four weeks now, and I have four straight weeks of losses.2

My fuel gauge has been broken for decades. Tracking is the only way I can my weight under control.2

same here, I track and I can slowly lose. No tracking and I slowly gain.1

Gavin, That's great you lost 4 straight weeks. keep doing what you're doing.
I need to track to keep me accountable or I will stray terribly.1 -

Same here -- Tracking since January 1st and have had a loss every week.2 -
Another thing I found useful this morning. When I did my normal morning weigh-in (I weigh every day), I was up 0.2. While it wasn't much, I wondered why. Looked at my tracker on MFP and realized I had a lot more sodium yesterday than I normally do. I'm really cognizant of the amount of sodium I take in. MFP sets my RDA at 2300mg/day but, because I have high blood pressure, I try to keep mine around 2000mg/day.
That's one of the things I didn't like about the way WW did tracking -- you could be well within your points for the day/week and all of a sudden have an unexplained gain. While you *might* realize it was because you had Chinese the night before, there was nothing *visually* to show that increase in sodium. I've found that I really don't mind using the MFP tracker because it gives me a lot more data to work with.2 -
@beachwoman2006 Tracking is an eye-opening experience! It's amazing where some of my calories go that I had no idea until I started tracking... and once I became aware of them, it makes getting through the day guilt free a LOT easier.
BTW - you can adjust your sodium intake. Go to your MFP home page, Goals, and it's in the "Micronutrients" section.2 -
When you combine the denial of overeaters with the normal changes of aging....1
