Name Origins

We haven't done this since this group started. So, I think it is fair game as a subject. We have new members since then, and I also would love to hear from some of you lurkers.

What is the origin of you screen name? Does it have personal significance? Or, was it a default handle offered up by the system when you registered? There are no wrong answers.

I have been "misterhub" or "MrHub" (an adaptation of my last name "Hubbard") since I first got online back in 1994...back when the internet was available almost exclusively to academics and scientists...and online meant locally maintained bulletin boards. Twenty-four years later, I am still "misterhub."

I have been "jerdtrmndone" for many years. The reason for choosing this screen name was back in 2004 when doing WW's I was very determined to lose the weight and did so and made Goal in 2005. 110# lost.

I was Calvin2008 on the WW GoaD board.

Calvin was my big male springer spaniel and best friend at the time I joined WW in Oct/Nov 2007. The 2008 part of the name was just because I was looking forward to bigger and better things in the coming year.

I added Brian to it shortly after coming to MFP because that's my name.

If MFP would let me change I probably would.

One of my friends nicknamed me GadgetGirl many years ago since I have a love for technical gadgets. At that time I had my own business providing computer and accounting services to very small business in the area.

I certainly don't lack for gadgets when I'm out biking, hiking, or running! My bike's handlebars are a bit cluttered as there is the bike computer, the GPS unit, and now an inclinometer as I'm really curious just how steep a hill is on one of the 100k routes I did last fall. That damn hill caused me to tip over on my first attempt as I just couldn't generate enough force. The second attempt I just walked up it because the path was covered in leaves and it was raining. But gosh darn it, I'm going to make it up on the third try when the path conditions improve sometime this spring!

I had to stick my state (Illinois) on the end of GadgetGirl to make it unique here.

I'm clearly very clever in my username choice ;) My name is Rachel and 0778 used to be my lunch code in high school and it's just stuck around for when I need to add random numbers to something.

Mostly lurker. Used to be Milesbluesky on WW. References 2 of my favorite things in the world. My son and first born's name is Miles and my favorite song is Blue Sky by the Allman Brothers Band. Now MCBluesky. MC are my initials. The change is due to grief my daughter gives me about using her brother's name instead of her's. Just kidding.

My official SW with WW IN January 2013 was 376#. I was Jim376

Joined MFP and set my name as Jim376 but some how messed it up and set up second profile so now I have two MFP User names.

One guy saw that and thought I was being secretive, No, I’m just not good with computers.

Somewhere I saw Imastar don't remember where but when I applied for that name on WW in 2010 it wasn't available so I used Imastar2 and it stuck and been using it ever since.

I wanted Bobke but friends said only the bike race (Tour de France etc.) commentator Bob Roll could use that nickname. My bike helmet comes in a pod. I chose Podke but needed one more letter for website hence Podkey which is pronounced the same.
I was permitted GOAD cult name "Sir bikes-a-lot" which I haven't signed for awhile.

Nice GadgetgirlIL. I have a Garmin and inclinometer myself on my bike.

I’m gavinflynn because that’s my name, and because when I first joined WW, I didn’t realize I was going to join any of the boards. I have often wished I had been more creative with the screen name.

My name on the WW boards was Myallforjc which came from my email address, which was a spiritual statement when we set up our joint email account. I probably got tired thinking up a screen name for WW and just used that. When we moved to MFP my wife had taken over my MapMyRun account with that name and MFP required a different screen name so I added bill to the end, my name.

This was a fun thread that dropped off the front page too soon. Giving it a bump.

Also, @minimyzeme Kim ... I read about your MINI and then clicked on your pic there to see if it is a pic of your MINI. I didn't see your buddy in there on the passenger side floor board until I enlarged the pic. Super cute pup!

My name is Steve (duh), but the screen name came from the old SNL skit where the guy in the office would bother everyone who came to the copy machine:

Steve, Steeeeeeve, makin' copies, Steve0 making copies, the Steve-a-nator making copies, Steve-a-ling-a-ding-dong, Steve-0-mania...

    that's awesome

Savignr is my network ID at work. Real last name is Savigny, derived from the town in France from which my ancestors came (or were deported, depending on who you believe).

Thanks Brian! I probably got a little overzealous in extending what I thought of her "personality" into my life. Truth is she had Cushing's disease and was dying a slow death. I spent a lot of time 'pre-grieving' until one day it dawned on my I was pissing away the time she had left feeling bad while she really didn't know she was in decline. Her personality seemed well-matched to the fun of a MINI, and to this day I refer to it as "her car". I know, I need help, but I figure it could be worse... B)
