We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for February are:

Monday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Tuesday - 88olds (George)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - jasper60103 (Jasper)

Topic: Closing Ceremonies

Do you have a night-time routine that you try hard to stick with? Is your routine important to your weight loss/overall health or in setting you up for a successful next day? If you have one, what's included in your routine? Reflection/meditation/prayer, stretching/exercise, prepping meals for the following day, etc.

Bonus Question: Do you snore?

No real night time routines. I don't snore with my Cpap. :)

As a kid, I fought against a regulated schedule of prepping for bedtime, and that spilled over into adulthood. I'm a natural night owl and have never had a good nightly routine. I've been thinking for a long time that I need to develop one that includes stretching and hard stops for screen time and lights out. I tend to fall asleep on the couch instead of going to bed when I become sleepy. Bad habit.

Last year, I began focusing on getting more, better quality sleep. I've had some success, but I'm still inconsistent. I definitely notice a difference in my appearance, mood and general aches and pains when I get better sleep, so I think focusing on establishing better habits/routine in this area would be beneficial.

To help me get to sleep, I do try to focus/meditate. My mind tends to race at night, so I try not to think too much about the upcoming day. Prepping meals in advance helps with this.

My experiment for March is going to be nightly stretching and a hard stop to be in-bed with lights out.

Bonus Question: I'm a light snorer.

I usually drink a cup of hot tea, generally a non-caffeine tea.

    I do snore.

I brush my teeth and fall into bed. I try to stay up until 10 but it is easy for me to fall asleep in front of the TV or with a book in hand.

    I don't snore.

I don't have a routine and always wake up a few times and have a hard time falling back to sleep.

    I do snore.

I am having a terrible time sleeping. Tried everything. I turn off the electronics, tidy up the kitchen, floss and brush. Read a novel for a bit, sometimes listen to a guided meditation.

I’ve been to the ENT doc, return next week.

I think my snoring may be making an old guy comeback. Going to get a sleep study I think.

I wanted to throw out that acupuncture helped with my sleep. After one treatment, I no longer had cold hands/feet. (Not something I was even trying to improve.) After five treatments, my sleep was noticeably better and continues to be.

I don't really have a set routine other than washing my face, brushing my teeth, applying my nighttime facial moisturizer, and (sometimes) watching the 11:00 news from bed. Then it's lights out. Most nights I have no problem sleeping well. Others? I toss and turn or I wake up at 4:00 in the morning and can't go back to sleep.

    I don't snore.

I get into bed and turn on the news. Then I wake up 5 hours later. Fully rested.

I do not snore. My wife, however, can really saw some wood. She totally denies it. My kids have videoed her (I know better than to pull this stunt) and she still denies it. It doesn't bother me.

No real routine for me. I'm a bit weird in that I'm "light-averse". My partner usually reads in bed and while she's doing that, I'm out in the living room. As often as not, I fall asleep in my chair. It's a pretty comfortable recliner and I slept the whole night in plenty of times.

These days (last year or two), sleep really is at a premium. We have a senior cat who has no trouble sleeping soundly through the day but has taken to yowling at night. That can be a blood-curdling wake-up call! And the dog will often have to go out at some point in the night. Between the two of them, the motel is starting to look pretty good!

I am not currently a snorer, but back in the day... In fact, that was one of the things that got me into WW in the first place.

I have gotten into the routine of sleeping with white noise on my radio. It’s the sound of waves and cancels out my CPAP noise.

I used to snore a LOT! CPAP and WL have reduced that but I really don’t know how much I snore now.

I pack my gym bag before I get into bed. Workout clothes are laid out all ready to put on when I get up. I play some solitaire on my iPad and then go to sleep. I have a sound machine (white noise) that I use. Usually the kitties start out the night with me but will later go see what my night owl husband is up to. The kitties eventually return at some point during the night.

I don't think I snore now that my asthma is very well controlled. DH and I have separate bedrooms as our schedules are so different. It works for us.
