So I'm set to have my surgery done in late summer/early fall, and right now I'm on my 2cd month of insurance required classes. I figured I'd ask this here because our cases our special ones: is it okay to sometimes go down to 800-1000 calories a day before the surgery? Right now I'm 467lbs and 5' 7".

Each person is unique, but there are some general recommendations that you could address with your physician or support team. In order to lose weight patients will need to reduce caloric intake to about 1200 calories per day for most women and 1500 calories per day for most men. Two weeks before surgery patients follow an 800 calorie diet that comprises of 2 protein shakes and one meal of about 350 calories.

I am also in the three month insurance phase. My surgery will be at the end of June. For me, right now the goal is to lose a few pounds each month until the pre surgery diet. Then I will follow the 1,000 calorie guidelines.

Yes it is okay for you to do that in order to shrink your liver.
