Garmin Connect or Training Peaks Custom Workouts...please help!

When I am exercising, especially swimming, I can never remember what lap I am on, so I have been a huge fan of the ability to load workouts onto my Garmin watch. However, Garmin is stupid and their Swim workout builder does not allow you to add steps to repeats, even though every other workout option can allow it. On the flip side, I can kind of do that in Training Peaks, but TP won't load custom swim workouts onto my 935xt; only running. I have tried loading cycling, and it will only load simple ones. If I have too many steps or repeats, it won't send it to the TP app on my 935. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hmmm, afraid I haven't tried it. I have the same lap counting challenge, but I haven't tried using the swim workout builder in Garmin or in TP. Only the running workout.

I have the same experience with Garmin/ TP for swimming. I use my 735 and find it quite effective in normal swim mode. It will count laps for you without having a workout downloaded. For example i may do a main set of 7x 300yds. It will count the laps for each interval and give me the time to start next interval based on rest time of start time. What i mean by that is i might want to do 300s on on the 3:00 interval or i might want 15 seconds rest in between intervals- it can do that.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but for swimming what I do is cut and paste my workout into a word document, print it out, fold up the paper and put it in a ziploc baggie at the edge of the pool. Works every time. Have used the training peaks applet for running without any problems.

You can go to Garmin Connect and create a swim work out. Upload to your watch and you will hear a beep or vibration when you are on your last 25 yards. I have the Garmin 735, but have also done it on the 310 manually even though it does not have a lap swim option. I don't use it I am like ttippie2000 and just write mine down on paper, stick in a ziplock baggy, put my watch in 'Lap Swim" mode and then hit lap for each interval.
