We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for April are:

Monday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Tuesday - myallforjcbill (Bill)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - 88olds (George)

Today's Topic: Others' Success Stories

Do you seek out or get inspired by reading the stories of other people who've been successful at weight loss or other health improvement endeavors (e.g. running, weight-lifting, meditation)? If so, how often? Do you do it to help you GET motivated, STAY motivated or something else?

Bonus Question: Pick a five point temperature range that you'd like to live in forever. (The planet will not be harmed by your choice.)

I don't think I get motivated by others' stories. Maybe I'm more of an internal/inward-looking person, but I've always done best with self-imposed motivation and discipline.

That is not to say that I don't learn from others, because I certainly do!

    Temp range: probably 68-73F

I watch success stories on WW Connect and MFP success photos. I had s lot to lose so it did know it could happen.

One senior WW guy on Connect showed his WW -125 WW Charm. I made that my goal to get my WW Charm to lose -125. I

I had been satisfied at -100, that got me restarted and motivated to earn charms for 125, 150, and 175.

Now I post others to show my success story that large amounts can lose after age 65 to 70. It also reminds to remember that BEFORE photo is always a lot of work accomplished.

BONUS: Temp 78-84 BUT LOW HUMIDITY!

Wuestion had me turning to the dictionary to look up inspiration. It said inspiration was about stimulating your mental processes to take action. So I always say I stay on GoaD and a couple of other boards “to keep my head in the game” so yes, I’m in for the inspiration.

But it’s not just successes. Sometimes I’m inspired just based on effort.

    82-87.

I actually find myself doing this more and more to GET motivated through old food promting experiences. I used to just plod along doing my thing, not really considering anyone else's journey though I was occasionally inspired. Now, in some of my exercise and eating, I find myself thinking of others and thinking either "What would Soandso do?" or "If Soandso can do that, I should be able to do this". I also often talk myself off my old anxiety-related ledge by thinking of Soandso, remembering that "If hunger's not the problem, food's not the answer", and bucking up to face the real source of the problem.

Bonus Question: 62-67--I think that'd be dandy.
