April Showers

No, I'm not commenting on anyone's personal hygiene (either lack of bathing or excess thereof), rather the usual springtime rains... although we've had some indication the next precipitation here in Ottawa, Canada will be snow (sigh...)
How is everyone's spring going? Are you getting out there and walking? Remember...

Winter is over here, midwest of the US of A. Grass is growing, flowers are blooming. Time to get busy with Spring and all the outdoor activities that brings!
I'm dealing with wildly growing Spring grass in my lawn maintenace post-retirement job. We are having to bag every yard as it is too juicy to try and double or triple mow the clippings into every yard (just makes a green paste). I'm having to clear the bagger tube almost every pass of sticky gooy clogs, and then throw two 40 gal tubs full of wet juicy Spring grass (75 to 150 lbs each) into to the back of the truck several times for each yard. Multiply by 15-20 yards a day, working 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day until near the end of June when the grass start to slow down as the rains tapper off and the heat ramps up.
All of Spring IS my Hell Week... and I wouldn't change it for the world. Love the lawn maintenance post-retirement job!3 -
That sounds like a helluva workout, @d_thomas02!!
My girlfriend was reporting similar maintenance at her place south of Dallas. I still have snow over half of my lawn.

Winter is hanging around here for a bit more. We are expecting a hard freeze tonight. I hope that's the end of it!1

As usual, April in Michigan is confused. Also confusing.

I’m biting the bullet and going to get my motorcycle tomorrow. My GTI has been at the shop for two weeks now with a mysterious electrical issue.1

Great to have the bike out... Sorry to hear about the mysterious electrical issue. Hopefully it gets fixed quickly and without a huge cost.0 -
Thanks Wayne. Hopefully I won’t have to get a full time job to pay for it. At least it’s at a small shop specializing in VWs and Audis. My VW guy is very experienced, and just like my grandpa when the train ran over his legs, he’s stumped.0

Three layers of gear, double gloved and it was actually a nice ride. Sunny day, dry pavement even if it was 33 degrees.

First hot day of the growing season here in the Midwest USA on the Ozark plateau. 85F, full sun, and winds gusting to 40 mph. Good day to bag the grass... if my bagger mounting plate hadn't broken this morning. Eating grass all day as the wind blew it back in my face. By 5:30pm I was ready to get out of the sun and wind but the work day didn't end until 7:30pm.
No worries. Expecting a hard freeze Sunday night.
Gotta love April weather in the Ozarks.1 -

And people tell me I don’t understand retirement....

It's freezing rain like crazy in Ottawa. Not what I was hoping for in spring showers...1

Sunday had the coldest high temperature here for April since 1910. 35 F. Snowed during the morning hours, just a dusting.
Good news, overnight low only dipped below freezing. Not the hard freeze they had predicted.1 -
The meteorologists were wrong. We didn't get any snow (they predicted 8") but Ottawa is coated with around 1/2" of ice everywhere. The roads are an absolute mess. But hey! We didn't get any snow...1

I went hiking yesterday with friends, looking for waterfalls. We found many!

I brought my girlfriend to the airport. Her flight back to Dallas was delayed three times... twice before we went to the airport and a third after we got there. She just notified me that she's boarding.
The freezing rain coated everything... especially the trees and powerlines... is knocking out the power intermittently.0 -
The freezing rain overnight knocked down a bunch of trees & power lines... This pic is from a commercial/retail area not far from my place. We lost power intermittently on Sunday and Monday...

Amazing photo. What a mess!1

Back when I was flying three of us ( I wasn't pilot in command that night) were up in a Piper 140 and encountered icing. We landed with the engine at full power just to keep us in the air. Close call.0

April has been the second coldest on record for SW Missouri. Lilacs are just now coming into full bloom.
Unheard of.1 -
It must be that "climate change" thing I keep hearing about?1

Near the Mulberry River, close to the community of Oark, Arkansas. It was a "medium bushwhack" to get to the falls, which means no trail really. We used gps coordinates to find them.1 -
My food friend Captain Kathy made me a birthday cake. It disappeared in seconds after fire training tonight. Great bunch of people, but atrocious table habits.
