Today, in the United States, it's Memorial Day. That is a day which is dedicated to the memory of those who have served in the our armed forces since it's birth as an independent nation.
Many of you are citizens of countries around the world. Does your country have a national holiday for the same purpose? Please share...Thanks. Rick

Travelled interstate for work again this morning. In Sydney again. Vivid festival on in Sydney at the moment, so lots of places lit up.
Tired now and need sleep.
Wife on antibiotics for chest infection and trying to take it easy. Talking with her twice daily. Will go home if required, but she is insisting that she is doing OK (and resting as much as possible and keeping warm). Thank you all for well wishes.
Part of why I love the UAC group - people genuinely care.
Australia has Anzac day (25 April). Same significance as Memorial day. ANZAC is Australia & New Zealand Army Corps. April 25 is the anniversary date of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War when ANZAC forces landed on Gallipoli in Turkey. The forces were pinned down for 8 months with over 8000 soldiers losing their lives through various battles on the peninsula.6 -
@craigo3154 Had to read a bit about ANZAC and the ANZAC biscuit (cookie as we Americans would say). Interesting perspectives on the origins of the ANZAC biscuit or oft referred to "soldier's biscuit."

Are they traditionally still served on ANZAC day? Found these recipes...might have to try one some day.

@craigo3154 thank you for this wonderful history. I wish your wife speedy recovery. It is a bit stressful when a close family member is not feeling well and you are not around.
@w8goal4life thanks for the cookies recipe. We call it cookie here too.4 -
@cardio_enthusiast - Beautiful photos hun, thanks for posting! Simply stunning.
@RangerRickL - Memorial Day is similar to Remembrance day here, observed on the 11th November, and signified by wearing a red poppy - I wear 2 poppies, a red one for the men who lost their lives in war and a purple one for the animals who also fought and died in war.
I believe both should be honoured and remembered as equals.

As @trixsey1 and @fatbambi2017 I observe Remembrance Day Nov 11, and I wear my poppy with pride. Last year, they were selling them here in Vegas. I’ve never heard of the purple poppy but I will ask my sister to get me one and start wearing it as well.
