Hello! I celebrated my 45th birthday last month, went for my annual check-up and found out that I have Type 2 Diabetes! Oh bummer :( I attended a class about it but still having a hard time understanding how to manage my diet now. I have made some changes; increasing vegetables & reducing carbs and lost a few pounds but still feeling overwhelmed trying to understand the blood glucose and all the other stuff. I would really appreciate the support and knowledge from folks who have been successful in managing their Diabetes. Thank you :)

Google "Vista Health" they are doing amazing work on reversing diabetes. Basically if you reduce carbs and eat more whole foods you may be able to reverse it. Remember, the blood sugar levels are the SYMPTOM of the Disease. Insulin resistance is what's causing diabetes.

I had diabetes for years and was able to reverse it. I did have the benefit of bariatric surgery so my diet changed dramatically and I lost a massive amount if weight. But regardless, if you eat more whole foods and exercise you have a good shot at reducing your a1c.

Thank you James! What was the most difficult change you had to make in the beginning?

@jmansor probably the hardest part is the beginning. Cutting down on refined sugars and carbohydrates is TOUGH. The first few days I really craved junk food. But each day that passed it got easier. After about three weeks it rarely crossed my mind. I also started walking regularly too. I downloaded a step counting app on my phone eventually and shot for 10,000 a day. Regular exercise helps with insulin sensitivity.

Over three years later I still rarely eat sugar and exercise most days. For me, it's all about habits. Developing good habits makes it easier to stick with.
