We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don’t) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. “ It’s a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for June are:
Monday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Tuesday - calvin2008brian (Brian)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - 88olds (George)
Friday - Al_Howard
Today's Topic: liquids.
There's water, and then there's everything else, right? How do you deal with liquid refreshment? What's changed for you?

For me, water is the primary liquid. I haven't had soda (I'd say pop but would get mercilessly heckled) in probably 15 years. I have coffee on weekends only; used to have it daily, but stomach said enough of this. I recently gave up scotch until such time as I can get my weight back in order, so water it is.0

I drink a lot of D-café coffee and about 40 oz. water too. A Soda once in awhile but don't need it.0

Pretty much only three liquids for me. Water, club soda and tea. Hot tea in the morning, iced after that. Always unsweet despite my southern roots. Occasionally vodka/club soda or tequila.
I need to drink more than I do. I have to consciously think about liquids. Leg cramps at night are a good reminder.
Agree with @savignr that the correct term for carbonated beverages is "pop."0 -
The biggest What What Whaaat? of my current weight loss journey was when tracked a 10 oz bottle of Welch's 100% grape juice and found I'd just chugged over half my daily points. I knew it was a splurge (in the middle of a long bike ride), but more like a 4 point splurge and not a 12 point day killer.
Day-to-day I do not drink calories in a big way but I don't often drink plain water. I'm good for 2-3 cups of black coffee per day, 1-2 diet sodas, and 1-2 glasses of Crystal Light (or its generic equivalent). I haven't been making a point to drink water, and I probably should. I have "water" on my to-do list every day this week.
As for alcohol, a 6-pack typically lives in my fridge for weeks. I'll have a beer with dinner 1-2 times per week and, more rarely, a glass of wine or a cocktail. If tracking honestly, it's nearly impossible to squeeze alcohol into the Freestyle budget.0 -
I drink a lot of water during the day, and, especially the night. CPAP, even with a humidifier on high, leaves my mouth and throat arid.
Also down a 12 cup's worth of black coffee, and about 6 Diet Cokes.
Weekends usually have me drinking about 12-20 beers. And yes, it's a points breaker. (Gee, wonder why I'm not losing. LOL)0 -
I generally drink water, but I pay the penalty of coffee with cream and sugar.
No alcohol though.0 -
Other than a Coke in the later miles of a long bike ride, my beverages are all non-caloric. I do prefer my caffeine to come a carbonated & cold format - Zevia (stevia sweetened) cola does the trick. I also drink hot green tea without any sweetener with breakfast. For the rest of the day, it is usually 1 can of seltzer water a day and the rest is just regular water.

Coffee
I began with artificial sweetener and flavored creamers (Pre WW)
Now one Tbs of SF hazelnut. Just changed to Ice Coffee in summer at DD with no cream and just SF flavors.
I remember a few years ago that DD with cream means FOUR helping of cream comes with DD coffee!
H2O is my modification with those artificial lemonade packets.
Cut out Diet Coke.I May have a rare diet orange soda.
