I will take it!! Yesterday, we went waaaay across town (an hour with NO traffic and on cruise control at 75ish) to the kids house. We helped put the crib together and get Rhea's room ready. It was so much fun. Since MIL leaves this Sunday, and I didn't want to pressure the kids to come to our side of town this week, we all went out to dinner at Cheesecake Factory. I really wanted a salad, but with my tummy, opted for my usual pasta dish (which I have half for lunch today). I tried to not order a slice of cheesecake, and hubby couldn't make up his mind, so I ordered a plain. I took three bites and was done. Hubby was happy as he didn't like the one he chose, so he did eat mine at some point last night. I was actually trying to discourage him from eating TWO slices, but better him than me I guess. Anyhow, we had a great evening and my MIL was exhausted from the trip. She now understands how hard it is on my DIL to do that travel every weekend, so hoping she doesn't try to pressure them on her own to come up next week. Plus,my DIL is a teacher and she's back to work.
Sarah - like you, I cannot even guess at my weight these days.
Oh boy, Docusign finally opened and the sales team was extremely busy. Gotta run. I'll jump back late today or tomorrow.

Congratulations Lois! 2.4 pounds is a great reduction!
Great fun getting ready for the baby, huh? I had to drive 5 hours to Boise for my first grandchild, so I understand.
Sarah, I hope hubby is better, and that you were able to attend the ball game. Get out the clorox wipes and stay well if possible!
I'm thinking about trying the Keto diet. Have you ladies ever tried it? It's supposed to be great for health issues like asthma and any inflammatory or autoimmune issues. And, you lose body fat
Have my trainer so gotta run.

Thanks Sheesh. With regards to Keto - that's the program Lance had me on. I lost weight and inches, felt super yucky and drained the first week or more until my body acclimated. But my body didn't like it overall - that's when my triglycerides doubled and then some. So if you do, I would monitor your bloodwork. And I was choosing the healthier fats as my sources. I don't believe it's something one should do without some guidance and monitoring. That's my own opinion. I kind of miss it but I'm too afraid of the numbers going back to wacky. have fun with your trainer!0
-
Thanks Lois. I started trying it today, but I'm already at 21 grams of carbs. I read online that you can subtract the fiber from the carbs for "net carbs", so I'll have to look at that. I understand that you can feel woozy for a day or two, but so far today I feel really good. . Did some intervals on the treadmill. I love fat more than carbs, lol! I'll keep you posted on how I feel, and will get my bloodwork done again in a few months. I just had it done and my triglycerides were good, but total cholesterol high . . . however, my HDL is really high. So, I'm not worried.0
-
That is true for the "net carbs" . Lance had me limited to 25 net carbs and that was super duper tough. I missed my veggies and fruits. I can do without breads but not my fruits and veggies...those were the hardest to omit. All of my cholesterols and trigs were good before. We had in-house bloodwork done for insurance at the office and he was the first to catch it...well over 300. I thought his test strip was wacked and he did it again same results. And it was 247 a year ago in December and I'd already stopped following the Keto plan. Now I'm back to 142 as of this past December. I could be a wacky one. Hubby wants to try and I told him I'd support him and help him. I'm just scared, my BP is all over the place with stress right now so I don't want to risk it again.

Got the call from the GI...polyp benign. Don't need to go back for 10 years baby!!! Oh, and I can still eat popcorn!! WOOT WOOT!!0

What a coincidence that you are doing Keto Sheesh! I have actually been considering it myself. I need to do a bit more research on what I can and can't have but it seems like it has fantastic results. I need SOMETHING to change. Honestly my weight just keeps going up and I don't know why. The only thing I can think is that I'm having too many carbs. I feel like I don't eat enough as well, so I know I've said it in the past but I'm going to start tracking my food again. I have been getting major steps in and doing work outs but something doesn't seem to be working. Maybe it's stress that's affecting my weight.. I don't know. I'm at the point where I just need to try something... anything. I don't feel good about my body and I'm at the highest weight I've been in years. 157.1lbs as of this morning. It's ridiculous already. But... onward I go. I'm not giving up. I'm still drinking as much water as I possibly can in the day (yesterday I barely had any though) because it makes me feel awesome.
The house is moving along. Electrical and plumbing should be done this week! I already started packing some of our stuff at home too, just to get a head start. Things I know we're not going to use over the next few months.
Ok.. I have to get back to work, but I'll check in later.0 -
For some delicious keto recipes, you gals should join the Instant Pot community on FB. It is for the pressure cooker, but you can probably figure out how to prepare stove top or oven (or get an instant pot pressure cooker - I LOVE Mine). I wish I had this when I was doing the program with Lance. Urvashi Pitre is one to follow, she has many delicious recipes both keto and non keto. Honestly, a wealth of good info. There are break off communities for keto as well for recipes and such but I don't know them off the top of my head. I want you gals to succeed so if these links help you! I've made some of them (can't recall which), but remember I'm not going full keto.
I need to do my 30 day meal prep again, most of those recipes were on the healthier side and super easy to toss in the pot and be ready. Kelly, something for you to think about with the kiddos with school and activities. Make it a family event to do the chop (or just you and Shawn). There are a couple of good sites for that - once monthly meals (they have for IP or crockpot) and lamberts lately (I think she also has both). The good thing with once monthly meals is you can create your own selections, and then the grocery list is custom to what you want to make. There is a small monthly fee to join, but you can cancel and rejoin when you're ready to do it again. Lamberts Lately is free, however, the list is to her meal plans, so you have to adjust the grocery list if you double or delete meals. But her labels are super awesome as well.
I can email you gals the lamberts lately info to check out.0 -

I hate this! Yesterday I weighed 141.8, and now today I'm up almost a pound when I was under my calorie allowance for yesterday. We went to the ballgame last night with our neighbor and had catered food that I just didn't care for. So I had one chicken wing, one meatball, and half of a mini-donut. I was under for the day and gained! So Kelly, I feel you. It's frustrating, but I know good and well that if I did not do the things I'm doing, I would quickly weigh what I did when I strapped on my first bodybugg 8 years, and I have no intention of going back there. My struggle lately is activity. I have to stop working late and start getting to the mall. When I was in that routine of getting up from my desk and immediately going out the door, I didn't have so much trouble with other things eating up my evening.
I will say this, however. I know we four are probably in better shape than most of our peers. We took the metro to the game last night, which entails some walking to and from stations and within the station, and we also had to walk a good way from where you enter the Ballpark to where the club suites are. And my neighbor--who is only one year older than me isn't trapped at a desk all day-- could not keep up me and hubby. And she said she was exhausted by the trip, whereas I was still okay when we got back at midnight. But dear god, NEVER take the Washington metro during rush hour. So many people tried to squeeze into the car where we were standing, rather than sitting, that at one point I felt the breath being squeezed out of me.
And before I dash back to work, thanks for the info about instant pots. Hubby has a friend who has been telling him how much she enjoys one she bought a few weeks ago, and so he is hot to get one. Now it sounds like it might be a good idea, even though I told him he could not buy even one more piece of kitchen equipment! LOL

Exactly the same, lol! Well, I have done Keto one day this week (Monday) and then played golf yesterday and fell off the wagon. Doing it today. But, I have a hair apt in 30 minutes, so I'm going to dash off, and check back later.
Thanks for the info Lois
Hope you'll join me Kelly
Don't get discouraged Sarah. And, besides, it sounds like you're having lots of fun0 -
Yes I am having some fun, Sheesh! We won that game 24-5 and broke a franchise record for the number of runs in a single game. Yeah Nats!0
-
I'm doing it Sheesh! Day one and I'm learning so much. My friend, coworker and bridesmaid is also doing it with me! I have learned that you do subtract the fibre off the carbs to count net carbs only. I am tracking my food so far on MFP and I'm excited to keep it going! Looking forward to a good workout tonight too.
Thanks for the info Lois! I'll definitely look into it.
Sarah - I agree.. don't get too discouraged. It's just 1 week. You know what you have to do! Glad to hear you had a fun time0 -
Keep in mind that the info I sent was not a total keto-friendly meal plan. Just a sample of how you can prepare meals ahead of time so that when you're in a slump or running behind, you can pull something a bit healthier than fast food from the freezer. Hubby and I were were working in the yard a few months back, I had nothing prepared, I had not yet done my weekly grocery shopping yet and neither wanted to take a break to go get something, he asked if I had something in the freezer that I could toss in the IP. Time and penny saver. Hubby has asked me to do these again as he likes many of these meals.
You gals are getting me a bit excited about meal planning again. I can't go total keto, but I can go healthier. I'm in!
Sarah - one day at a time and enjoy life and your ball games!

Glad you're joining me Kelly! I've been doing research on the diet, and I think I will do well with it. I've always needed my fat to feel happy, and this diet is perfect for that. I'm still logging food and staying in deficit, so I can't go crazy with the olive oil and butter, but I feel more satisfied when I get my fat. I love carbs too (actually, I just like food, lol) but I can live without the breads and starchy stuff. Sweets are sometimes harder to pass on, but I've looked into making some "fat bombs" as they describe them on the websites to satisfy that. (Mostly coconut oil with cocoa, or cream cheese and berry bites, etc.) I like that it's just moderate protein . . I have done high protein in the past, but it's hard to gag down all that protein. Drinking water is important on this plan, so I need to up my game there.
Lois, I like the idea of having meals made ahead, so thank you for the info you sent. Looking through them, they would be easy to modify for a more strictly keto meal. I'm going to get some meals done ahead of time so that I don't get off track because of hunger. The other thing I like about this plan is that I can have an occasional martini or wine or "skinny *kitten*" when I go out with my girlfriends. (In moderation)
Sarah, your metro story made me feel anxious. I've had to pass on getting onto trains that are too crowded . . once in San Francisco I couldn't do it. We walked about 5 miles insteadand hubby wasn't happy. I had to practice calming meditation in Paris when we were on the train. Between the crowding and the body odor, it was a challenge, ha ha!

Sheesh - I added you to this Facebook group that my friend showed me for Lazy Keto. So many inspirational stories and food tips!
Lois - Let me know if you want me to add you too
Day 2 of Keto is going well. I've been full all day and have lots of energy. Feels a bit weird adding butter to my coffee but it tastes ok. I have stayed within my calories even though I've added fat. I guess removing the bad carbs does work. I'll weigh in tomorrow to see what I'm at. When I weighed this morning, I was down 0.5lb from yesterday.0 -
July 28 weight - 159.6
August 1 weight - 157.3 (Day 1 of Keto)
August 3 weight - 155.8
Wowzers. Very interesting I must say. After realizing that I was gaining weight from way too much carbs, I'm really liking seeing the immediate results of doing Keto. I'm focusing on staying within my calories and staying under my carbs. I have been trying to get more fats into my diet as well, which has been a bit difficult while at work since I have limited selection here. The only downsides have been I've had headaches for the past couple days (pretty bad ones) and I'm getting some muscle cramps. I have been researching that I need electrolytes but again, it's hard to get those here. Tonight I'm going to try drinking pickle juice, as some suggested. I already take magnesium and I have been adding some salt to my food (which is weird for me). My energy levels are still great so I'm still getting on the treadmill at the end of the days.0 -
WOW Kelly impressive and exciting!!! Yes - please add me...I'm always on the lookout for new recipes. When I was doing the program, Lance really pushed pushed pushed the water intake. Your body uses more water in the initial phase of this transition which could be a contributor of the headaches. May be add some lemon and salt to your water. Have you tried the coconut oil in your coffee? That added just a hint of varied flavor. The coconut oil helps with the mega chain triglycerides during this program as well. I'll have to find my original paperwork as well and go back and review it.
Are you logging all foods in MFP?
Sheesh - when I was on program, I was allowed the alcohol, just not the juices...switched from cranberry vodka to soda water and vodka (actually prefer this way) or shots of tequila.
When I was driving home, I remembered one of my favorite snacks that fit in the program. Buy a large ricotta cheese and whip it with 1/4 tsp of almond or vanilla extract (adjust to your flavor desire). That was super delish. I still do this when I have extra ricotta. Some people add stevia or sweetener, but we liked it with just the extract. Made us feel like we were having a dessert.0 -
Hi, Ladies. There's some kind of issues going on and I can't log my food in MFP today. Went in this morning to put in dinner from last night and got a message saying "sorry--this has been reported to staff." But it's almost 2:30 and it's still not working. I was surprised that I could get into the message board.
My activity is really suffering this week. I'm picking up the slack for people who are vacation and people who are sick in both my paid work and volunteer work. Tonight we're having a friend over for dinner and so I may or may not get on the treadmill before bed. Yes, it's still raining so outside walking is probably out once again. The friend is someone who lived in this area and that we were close to, and about a year ago he retired and moved to North Carolina. He has been up here for about a week caring for an elderly uncle. Yesterday was our friend's birthday, so we want him to get a break and have a nice home cooked meal. But we're doing salmon and mango salsa, rice, and asparagus, so it will be partially healthy. Wish we could grill the fish, but--have I mentioned that it won't quit raining? LOL
In other news, an instant pot showed up in my kitchen yesterday. I told hubby that if he got one more kitchen item something has to go, and he posted this last night and added that, "Max has been voted off the island."
At least his cold is almost gone, I haven't gotten it so far, and--oh, yes, we've also been house and pet sitting for neighbors this week, but because it's also raining on the shore, they're due back tonight instead instead of Sunday.0 -
Rats! I am still unable to access my food diary to put in last night and today's food. I just learned today that have only a week to do a huge annual report, so next week is going to be another killer. I am going to relish having some time this weekend to rest and prepare--despite the rain.0
-
That's weird Sarah cause I have been able to log all day using my computer. Maybe log off and log back on? Restart your computer? I hope you had a great dinner with your friend! Sounds like it'll be a nice break from the busy job you have.
Lois - thanks for the tip with the ricotta. I'll look into it! I do log all my food still in mfp. I tried a different program called Carb Manager but I didn't like it.
Day 3 of Keto done. I cant believe how much more energy I have so far!
0 -
Something is definitely weird. It now lets me see Saturday since it's after midnight and it is Saturday, but I can't go backward to plug in Friday 's food and Thursday's dinner. Oh, well. Usually it's not just one person so they eventually it things fixed.
We had more terrible rain storms, but our friend made it here safely and we had a nice dinner and did some catching up. I was whipped by the time he left at 10:30. I worked all day, did take my lunch hour but used that running to Trader Joe's for a few things, and then immediately jumped in to help cook once my work day was done. So I got a lot done today, but didn't make many steps. Part of the day, my fitbit was on the charger because I forgot to charge it over night and I got two emails about that.
Glad to hear your energy is high and you're feeling good, Kelly. Not sure if Keto is for me, but I'll be interested in hearing how you do, and who knows.
Now it's on to bed. Tomorrow night we are going out to dinner with neighbors so I want to get some walking done in the morning hours.0 -
I'm glad to hear that your visit was nice with your friend!
I hope you enjoy your walk this morning. Hopefully the weather has improved.0 -
Kelly, I think I accepted the facebook group . . I had to answer "yes" to some questions first, and then it was sent to the administrator . . . so ?? not sure. I'll check again later.
I really like Keto too. It's a more natural way for me to eat as I love the fats and protein. I also can get muscle cramps in my legs, so I always have some Powerade Zero or Smart Water around. I also found this wonderful product "Theraworx" at Walgreens. When I feel the cramps coming on (seems to happen especially after working legs or jogging or walking in heels) I rub that on my legs and feet. It works so fast and stops the cramps. I get the foam, but I think it also comes in a cream. It's been a life saver for me. I also take magnesium, but not every day cuz I think it gives me a bit of the runs when I get too much, lol. I went on Amazon and bought some "f bombs" . . pretty good. Also, love macadamia nuts for a snack. Try adding pink "Himalayan" sea salt to your food . . it has more minerals and is yummy/chunky when you grind it in a grinder. I've used that for a long time in place of salt. But, keep logging food because I think you can still get too many calories. It might be that Keto is really weight loss due to lower calories, just like any diet. The difference is that I feel better, fuller, and have more energy.
Lois, the ricotta treat sounds great, I'll give that a try. I also read that the 90% Lindt dark chocolate is acceptable for a square or two. I crave chocolate sometimes.
Sarah, I've not had any trouble with MFP logging. I log on my iPhone though. In the past, I've had to delete my Fitbit app on my phone, reinstall and/or restart my phone to get it to sync. Hope you get it figured out. Looks like you'll be enjoying some yummy new instant pot recipes soonLet us know what you think. My daughter and SIL love theirs, so I may have to look into getting it, although my kitchen is full too. Maybe I'll dump hubbies deep fryer?
I'm going to a bar-b-q at my brother-in-law's tonight. Hubby's niece from Louisianna is in town for her high school reunion so we're meeting up with her, also my daughter (lives here) and her boyfriend. I have a plan in mind for how to stay on track, so I'll let you know how it goes. Sneaking onto the scale today (clothes on) it looks like there will be a reduction come weigh-in dayI know that on this diet a lot of water weight is lost in the beginning, so I'm going to keep any loss in perspective.

Sarah your hubby is too funny. The instant pot is wonderful! I love mine. You'll be able to Cook squash in no time without having to cut or pierce it. Best for fattier meats. Pot roast in 2 hours (pressure at 90 mins). I hear chicken thighs are amazing. We only eat the breasts. FYI you can use any oven safe pot as a pot in pot - Pyrex but I find the stainless steel cook faster.
Sheesh - I also answered the questions. We should get a notification once approved0 -
The food diary situation is getting worse and not better. I could see Saturday on Saturday afternoon. (It's now 12:24 a.m. so it's officially Sunday), but I just came up here to see if I could at least log Saturday's food, and I can't access anything. I did get an email from MFP (have I mentioned that?) and it's not just me and they're working on it. It's very frustrating though since I religiously log my food.
I'm a little leery of keto because my doc is preaching to me to get my fats down, but it sounds intriguing. Today (well, actually yesterday now) the sun actually came out so I spent the afternoon swimming and we went out this evening with neighbors to a new restaurant. When we got home, I planned to watch a few innings of the Nats game that we had taped and then walk, but I feel asleep and when I work up, it was 12:12 a.m.0 -
Happy Saturday ladies! I'm stuck at work, but I hope the weather is nice where you are and you're enjoying it. Summer is almost over for us sadly. At least I'm off next shift so I'll be able to enjoy it more before it's over.
I'm so into this Keto thing and it's working! Although I love seeing that scale move, I really love how I feel. I overall have more energy and feel way less bloated. Although I have a way to go until my goal weight, I'm more positive now about it. I find that my overall hunger is down and I'm focusing on fueling myself with healthy foods. So far it's exactly the kick in the booty that I needed to get something going. I haven't really felt that I'm missing anything food wise. I'm not craving bread or anything like that. I even had a beer last night! It was a Michelob Ultra which is low in carbs and it tasted pretty good. I had non-breaded wings with Franks Buffalo sauce and ranch, plus I had a slice of pizza but just ate the toppings. So satisfying since I hadn't had anything like that since I started this and this morning I weighed myself, just out of curiousity, and I was down another pound! I've also been watching tons of YouTube videos and the FB group has really helped with the motivation. Lois & Sheesh - Hopefully you're accepted soon. I think it took a couple days for mine to go through once my friend added me too. When I get home, I so have to go shopping for some necessary items. I'm limited right now since I'm at work and we don't have everything here, but I'm making it work.
Sheesh - Thanks for the tip about the Theraworx. I'll have to look to see if we can get that in Canada. The past couple days have been better for the leg cramps. I made a homemade electrolyte drink yesterday with water, lemon juice, salt and stevia and it seemed to help. I do notice that I'm way more thirsty now so I drink a ton of water. I guess that's a good thing.. except for the massive amount of trips I have to make to the bathroom lol I hope your BBQ went well and your plan worked for the food! It's always so much tougher when you go to someone's place.
Sarah - Hopefully MFP fixes the issue for you over the weekend! The only problem I've had with logging recently is that it wouldn't let me add a particular item from the list of options. When I chose the item above or below, it worked. So weird.0 -
I can see Saturday and Sunday now and tried adding foods to Saturday, but found that while I can add the food, the amounts at the bottom are not tallied. I'm so used to logging everything that this makes me feel at loose ends. It has been a very long time since I've skipped logging for even a day. Because of my work, I typically even travel with a laptop so I'm always connected. I've tried logging food on my smartphone but that makes me entirely crazy. It's so much easier if I access via the website.
Well it's time to get moving. Have a safe trip home Kelly. Glad to hear that you're feeling good and that the new food plan is motivating for you. It's keeping my motivation going that is often a challenge.0 -
Great news Kelly!! Stay hydrated. You might even try adding pedialyte packets for hydration. I remember lance adding that to my regiment early on.
Sarah. Breathe. The site will work soon. Enjoy you game and watch what you're eating
Sheesh looking forward to hearing your feedback
I did get onto the once a month meals but did not make the progress I had planned. I did get my grocery shopping done. Sadly the store had almost no good veggies. Got four sweet potatoes. The iceberg lettuce zucchini and squash were all gross. Had to settle for a couple bags of frozen veggies. But got hubbys chicken my steak lentils and sweet potatoes ready for the week. Lunch and dinners are covered0 -
Lois, I wish I had your meal planning discipline. You are so good with that. Hubby made a big pot of Ellie Krieger's white turkey chili today, so we set for tomorrow. Will just need to add a salad. The food diary situation has now gotten worse. For a while today, I could log for Saturday and Sunday, but I just tried to go in to put dinner, and can't access anything. You're right, it will be fixed.
I am getting caught in lots of "it ain't working." Our home land line is not working, although thankfully my work line still is. We think Comcast cut the lines on Friday because they were digging without having called Miss Utility to get the lines marked. And now Verizon is saying they won't even fix a copper line anymore so we have to have them come out and install their new type of lines. That would be fine, but they will need to come through our flowerbeds and I'm sure they'll chop up my big hostas! Dealing with both Comcast and Verizon is more than a person should have to do!!0
