We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for October below:

Monday imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Jerdtrmndone (Jerry)

Today’s Topic : Longevity and success or failure.

Do you find that since you've been a part of LTL for a pretty long time and joining in the different discussions of the day that it's easier to stay on track or you have better success with whatever stage of weight loss your in.?

I ask this question thinking of those who participate in this LTL and have been around awhile might just be having more success.

Not sure if "better" is the word, but "more mindful" for sure.

That does not make it easier BUT my daily Roll Call keeps me aware that I’m planning on LTL.

I don’t plan Cheat Days. I made my promise to not gain back the 100# I lost after two years on WW (2013-14) 2015 I did NOT gain, lost -16#
Next two years my goal was to lose a pound a week. It took me a little over two years to lose 80# to get to GW and Lifetime.
The daily GoaD Roll Call And LTL post are the lifeline to keep me aware that I never want to go back to my former self.

    Good question!

Like others, when I'm being more mindful, I'm also more likely to be more active here on GOAD. This has a lot to do with how much time I'm devoting to meal planning and generaly trying to be healthy versus avoidance behavior. When I devote the time (and it shouldn't be as hard as I sometimes make it), it's easy to eat well and have time for GOAD. When I'm not making time to eat well, GOAD participation also falls off. My head is elsewhere.

    You got me thinking, Derrick!

Well, it’s never over. None of it. The only reason I don’t attend my meeting is because we moved. My food scale is still on the counter. I made my original GW 12 years ago.

No doubt, if I had let the idea that I had made it, didn’t need GoaD, didn’t need WW, (I was on the books 11 years), didn’t need to keep my mind right, I would have gained a lot back.

Thanks for all the participation. Sorry I got busy and never made it back to the board.

Hard to say as I've only been on this gig once and have participated to varying degrees here from the start. I learned a lot from GOAD, the archives and the LTL thread, etc. I have considered it important to try to keep the community active over the years as it does help me to stay mindful of my objectives. Knowing of the struggles, tips and techniques to make this work in the long run, as relayed by "veterans" has been a big help for me. Hard to say if it's made my journey better or more sustainable, but I'd say it's probably been a helpful piece of the puzzle.

Think it keeps my mind more on task than without.

I'll say this about being around a long time. I know it helps to keep participating because it keeps me thinking about losing weight. Thinking about it and taking action are two different things. Just because I have hung around so to speak does not make it any easier to takle the task at hand. It only means I believe that I come here for moral support and ideas and how to and so forth. I do think that longevity and how to do something help but taking action for what one needs to do is another question.

    SW 400.8
    CW 346.8 :/
    Next 1 GW 340.0
    Next 2 GW 300.0
    Final GW 185.0

    54.2 lbs Total Loss
