We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for October below:

My first choice for exercise is outside on a nice day. I often walk the 4 miles to town on the trail next to the water and have hubby pick me up. My second choice is the cardio dance class at the gym. I have to focus on what the instructor is doing so I don't get bored. I absolutely hate the tread mill; it's so boring.0

Because there is no negative eating impact on my attitude, it’s a net positive. I don’t rely on food to lift my spirits though.
I can still have episodes of bad mood eating now and again. Not sure I will ever be completely free from that.
Do you prefer exercising at home and outdoors ? Or going to a gym / or indoor facility. Here in Key West all of my activity is outside. Thinking of joining a gym to get a some leg macines.0 -
It works both ways for me. If I eat way to much over my calories/pts. I Get an attitude towards myself. If I have an attitude I some times do not care about what I eat then I get a bigger attitude. So I try no to get to this mode and not start to indulge.0

I'm a stress eater; so, this is something I have to watch out for everyday. That's why I've incorporated meditation into my lifestyle. Reduced stress means less chance for stress eating.
I like walking outside.0 -
Attitude? sure. If I let my hedonic hunger take over to eat stuff just because I like it that's never a good outcome. Positive attitude helps me for sure. No, eating does not lift my spirit.
Bonus: Outdoors, outdoors and did I say outdoors?? I am not a sittin' in a gym or dancing to the oldies in place kind of guy.1 -
Count me into the stress eater club.
Bonus: Being outside is the best, but going to the fitness center before work is way more practical on work days. So I make good use of my gym membership. And it was nice to soak in the hot tub at the gym yesterday after my cold bike ride ;-)0 -
I do try to keep a positive attitude and as that goes then I usually can stay positive with the eating habits. When my attitude and my eating habits are in line then usually I'm in the losing mode. OTOH when my attitude is undergoing siege and the day or days are not going as planned I can have serious attitudes towards eating. Don't know if you call that stress eating or not but it does have an effect.

I prefer going to an indoor gym with a walking track. I just need to plan to get there and quit making excuses.

Yes indeedy, my eating does effect my attitude. I've found that relationship exists on a spectrum in that if I'm not mindful and not making healthy choices, the relationship is somewhat masked--a low-lying depression / distaste for myself. It's an inherent knowing I "screwed up" by my own standards and leaves me mopey and lethargic but often times not really acknowledging or fully knowing why.
On the other hand, if I'm more mindful and making healthier choices (even if they're not the healthiest), I really feel better about myself. It's as if everything in this realm is amplified. I can metaphorically stand back and be please / proud about making healthier choices than I ever made pre-WW. One good turn then deserves another and I'm more likely to carry on in that fashion.
BONUS: I think I prefer exercising (walking) right from home. However, the new place will give me the opportunity to have make use of a gym membership if I decide to try that. Stay tuned for a more informed answer...0 -
Oh I too like getting in activity right from home too . I walk from home and bike from home more than 90% of the time or something like that. I like the word activity better than "exercise" in that we just need to move more whether purposeful or not. Doing activity from home means you can also combine it with what you "have to do".0
