Test strips bad before use.

I just got a new g/c meter. it is a Verio IQ. About half of the test strips I've bought so far a bad. I've sent One Touch a note on the subject, but was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue. My old g/c was a One Touch Ultra and it almost never had a bad test strip. With the Verio I take out a test strip put it in the meter and it says it bad. Diabetes is expensive enough with wasting half of the strips . I have to test 4 times a day. I'm retired on a fixed income (Social Security) and it is really biting into my budget. Any ideals or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I'm 68 and T/2 Thanks Jim

I got a Relion Prime meter. The strips are $17.98 for 100, and I have never had one that was bad. It gives readings that predict my A1C reasonably well.

Another option is the Bayer Contour Next. Strips are not expensive if bought on Amazon, and the Next had the highest reliability rating of all tested home meters. I get a bad strip maybe once in two sets of fifty.

Also: Dr Bernstein recommends reusing lancets until they get dull, and says he has never seen a diabetic finger infection from a lancet - he uses his for a full month. I started following his advice gradually, first using them for a whole day, then a week, then until they get dull, and have had no issues. And that's a big savings.

I change mine with every new container of 50 strips. That may be too often, but it is just what I do, and it seems to work pretty well. How many finger pricks do you think you are getting out of a lancet before they get dull?

I don't pay attention that closely but about every couple of weeks, maybe. How often I test varies a lot - if I am eating a bunch of unusual meals, sick, or stressed I test much more frequently than if I'm eating regular meals I eat all the time at home and exercising in my usual routine.

I used to change mine when they would bounce off at the highest setting.
I still have my original box, it's in sad shape but...

Now I change them more often, to my surprise if they're sharp
they don't hurt as much :D
