Bruising...

So, I didn't think it would be related, but I Googled (of course) and it seems it has happened to others.
I am on week 5 of Keto, things have been looking up, not feeling foggy, not feeling drained, and hopefully the scale gives me better numbers this week.
On Monday I noticed a bruise on my arm probably half an inch diameter... no biggie, I probably bumped myself against something, it happens. Tuesday I find a bruise on my thigh...a lot bigger...probably 2in x 3in...dark purple and nasty. This is odd. Today I find another small bruise right below that one and a teeny tiny one on my belly... what the hell!?
Anyone else experience bruising? It seems odd for it to be related to keto, but some articles mention a change in platelets(?)

I have autoimmune thrombocytopenia purpura - my white blood cells attack my platelets so I'can't clot as easily. It's controlled now but when it was active, I was so bruised that my family thought I was being beaten. I also had more gum bleeding, very heavy menstrual periods, was anemic, and was covered it petechiae (tiny red spots). If you have extreme symptoms, do see a doctor soon. My situation was critical.
It could be low vit K, which can cause the symptoms to a lesser degree, but if it continues or gets worse, I would see a doctor.1 -

@nvmomketo I don't have any additional symptoms and I have been feeling pretty well this week, so it threw me off...
Will definitely keep an eye out for it, but it seems pretty odd...thanks!1 -
I bruise pretty easily, so if this is happening to me, I probably haven't noticed it, lol. I didn't know keto could do that, too, so it's a good thing to know.0

I don't think keto normally does do that. My guess is it is unrelated. and hopefully nothing.1 -

Agree. I'd never heard of it. I've been low-carb for over 4 years now and involved in low-carb forums the entire time. I haven't heard of anyone mentioning it before now. I was keto for 1.5 years straight, no weird bruising. Now, I am clumsy sometimes, and I do bruise more easily on places where I no longer have any fat, like on my knees when I bang them getting out of the car (tallpeopleprobs) or my elbows when I bang them on the public restroom stall wall (more tallpeopleprobs) or when I bang my kettlebell on my wrist or knee ( clumsydumba--probs). But that's an awkward + thin-skin thing, and I'm no longer sub-50 carbs, and it still happens.1 -
I didnt think it was keto related either...I googled it and had some stuff come up from others saying once they started keto, they noticed bruising too...but I figured I'd come to the experts!

I exercised my Google-Fu skills and saw a couple things after you posted the thread. So it might be a thing for a subsection of people? But it must be a pretty small one. So yours is not as likely to be related. But human biology is weird sometimes... I can't say 100% that it isn't since there has been a study, and some people have obviously experienced it. Though it may be a case of coincidence in a few instances; they're paying more attention in general since they have embarked on this new and intense WOE, so they are noticing things they wouldn't normally notice that randomly really happen all the time to them.
If it persists, like bizarre bruises where there is no friggin' way you were accidentally jabbed or jostled, then a doc consult might be in order. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry over it. I personally know that since I lost the weight, even my youngest resting his soccer cleats on my thigh while I lace them, if he presses too hard, will bruise me. Even getting poked by a pencil or who knows what all. My life is crazy and my kids and I are clumsy so there ya go.0 -

Ok, so it was there...and I am not making this up! lol
Yeah, I have a few, specifically the one on my thigh that doesn't seem to be going anywhere...I am going to see my doc this Saturday, so I will definitely ask! Thanks!0 -
In general, I think easier than normal bruising can be a sign of not enough vitamin K. Dark leafy greens should help.0

I know this is a bit late. But I have exactly the same issue!!
Bruises on my tummy, arms and dark purple ones on my legs. Turns out since starting Keto I have become anemic. Doctor has me taking iron pills now.0 -

I always struggle to make sure I get enough, after having issues with severe cramps most of my life, if I don't keep on top of it. These zipfizz things I've been taking have given me almost 1g of potassium per tube. Coupled with the spinach and greens I already eat, ketorade with lite salt that is soon to be no-salt, and these muscle milks I added for the protein on the go, I'm hitting my 3,000-4,000mg with ease.
I swear, trying to figure out things for keto has made me aware of how easily I could be nutrient deficient in my previous diet.
As to OP, I've never really bruised easily, and haven't noticed any increase in bruising. Sorry0 -

I may be misreading your post; however, I think you are confusing Vitamin K and potassium. They are two different things. The periodic table symbol for the mineral potassium is "K"; but, it's not the same thing as Vitamin K.0 -

It was a combination of skimming posts and seeing K and the suggestion of leafy greens, both of which pointed me to Potassium, both of which also apply to vit k.1
