As we venture into the New Year I thought it important to share the above information with regard to bariatric surgery, hormonal changes, and possible side effects which are not typically discussed. Rapid weight loss does impact the brain, chemical reactions, etc. Interesting topic. http://bariatrictimes.com/depression-after-bariatric-surgery-triggers-identification-treatment-and-prevention/

Thanks for this information. I'm scheduled for gastric sleeve surgery on Jan 15. I've been going to a support group at my surgeon office. We discuss many of the things in this article. I highly recommend any patients, whether pre or post op, to attend these type of meeting. They are very helpful.

Luwright321 thank you for your feedback. My surgeon offered a year of support group meetings which include participation by nurses, nutritionists, lessons from post op patients. The decision to have this surgery is multi-faceted. What people don’t realize is that this decision impacts not only your body, weight, size but also impacts you emotionally and mentally. What are the things NOT discussed? Increased alcohol use, increased or decreased sex drive, drastic changes in hormones, losing as much as 20% of your hair, fatigue after eating, dry skin, heart palpitations..... and.... for some... a trigger for major depression. So, that is why I posted on this topic. Thank you.
