As a senior who needs to lose weight, nutrition is also very important. Would like to go vegan but doctor says no, I need meat.

As an ex vegan I can tell you that you can get protein without meat. Although I think meat may be important, not all protein must be meat. Any combination of seeds, nuts, and grains becomes a whole protein - therefore, peanut butter and Ezekial bread, beans and small square of cornbread, salad with garbonzo beans and sesame seeds. Just watch the portions, and I do so enjoy organic products whenever possible.

There are some nutrients that you can't get without meat/eggs in your diet without supplements especially B12.

Vegan is not for everyone. Do what feels right with your body. I am also a senior and need meat. I actually gain weight on a plant-based whole-grain diet that excludes meat. When I stick to meat, vegetables, a little fruit, and a small amount of dairy the weight just falls off and I feel more energy and move better.
