And if that isn't enough...here is an article...
https://healthfinder.gov/HealthTopics/Category/everyday-healthy-living/mental-health-and-relationship/get-enough-sleep
On Friday, I'm sleeping in. I hope you do the same this weekend!
Your friend, Rick
Is getting enough sleep a problem for you too?3 -
I'm a parent - getting enough sleep is a distant memory haha! But I'm also a stay at home mum to a toddler who thankfully still has a day nap, so if needed i can sometimes catch up on some sleep then.

Got over 44C (111F) today here. Cool change dropped temperature to low 30s (round 90F).
Still work today. Thankful for the cooler weather.
Early walk before it got too hot.
Trying to increase weight, but this morning the scales went down even more.
Australia day and Fathers birthday tomorrow. Father's place for lunch.
Thank you too for the messages of support. I'll try keep a more regular posting schedule. Fortunately the habits I have built over the past 2 years keep me on track even when life tries to get me derailed.
@RangerRickL. Sleep is SO IMPORTANT. Unfortunately, it's one of the first things we sacrifice in a busy life, but it should be the last.

Lol I was talking to my coach, who is also a triathlete, just today and he said "I know what we are missing is..."
"...sleep." I finished is sentence.
But I'm sleeping a bit more tomorrow as I have a long ride to do and refuse to go out too early. Cycling in the cold does not appeal to me at all!
As for today, exercise: 50 min running repeats / 10 min indoor cycling / 2k swim
Calories: yes

Discouraged a little with biking. I was adding a minute each day and was getting up there but now the knee pain is just too much. I'm hoping by cutting back to 20 or 25 minutes a day for a while will help it feel better. I have started Osteo Bi-flex too, so hoping for relief there as well.
Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend!6 -

Yes x 3
I have problems falling asleep and staying asleep. Melatonin helps most the time. I recently learned that I can't have any caffeine after 2 pm. It really helped me sleep once I cut that out of my late afternoons.3 -
Yes x 3 today. Frigid, so no riding. Did riw gor 20 min and do pool exercises for 60.
Sleep is very much tied to exercise for me. If I get a reasonable amount of exercise during the day, I usually sleep pretty good. Little to no exercuse, and falling asleep is,a challenge.

My favorite part of the day when fasting: sitting here watching my 2 and 4 year old eating dinner, the best part they never take less that 2 hours......3

Exercise- 45 minute Zumba class, 60 minute yoga
Calories- under by 5 with no exercise eat backs

As for sleep-
Bedtime is my favorite time of day! I get my eight hours which means I go to bed ridiculously early, like now it’s 8:22pm!
I never needed an alarm clock when I got up at 6am but 4:45am is stupid early. I use one of those alarm lights that mimics a sunrise, it’s amazing, it gives us a gentle 15-20minute slow wake up, when the birds start chirping at 4:45 we’re ready to get up. Highly, highly recommend for any one who needs to wake up at an ungodly hour.3 -

@BonnieHosk85 Hi Bonnie,
In the late 90's and early 2000', I did lots of long-distance road bike tours. One principle that I was taught is that we often develop knee pain because we are spinning in too high a gear. I had to learn to use pedal cadence and lower gears to be able to do progressive (over several days) long distance 500 mile events.
Best wishes, Rick0 -
My report:
Exercise: 20 minutes of walk/jog and did 1.61 miles; increased my pushups by a total of 23 over 3 sets; back protocol. Total exercise 63 minutes

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes -- 50 minute full body strength training + abs this morning.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes and a smidge under.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yep!
I was THIS close to having two cookies I really wanted tonight, but that would have put me over my calories for the day. I have worked way too hard this month to blow it this close to the end of January -- I want that Winner's Circle now and nothing is going to stop me!
As for sleep, it is so important. I get up every weekday morning at 5am to work out, so I go to bed at 9pm. I'm very rigid about it - I make sure not to use an electronics as blue light can bother restful sleep. I have a whole ritual where I ease myself into it and I read in bed until I fall asleep. I also use melatonin when necessary to make sure I get my rest.5 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? YES (mall walking)
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? YES
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? YES
Thanks for the article on sleep deprivation...very eye opening.4 -
Gah I think I’ve gotta claim this as pass day #4. No winners circle this month whomp whomp whomp. But that’s ok. I’m in this for the long haul, I’ll try again next month! Got in a sweaty cardio workout this afternoon. Tracking was good all day but out with friends this evening and there was cheese... I can’t be sure how much I had and those calories add up quick!6
-
Yes x3, 60 min yoga class
I have four kids, ages 8 and under, so yes sleep is a challenge for me! By the time I get everyone to bed I need a little alone time so I don’t get to bed as early as I should. And sometimes little people wake me up in the night. But I do my best4 -

Sleep is so important. Happily, I now get at least 7 hours of sleep almost every night. Very grateful. A working kidney & daily exercise (along with arm healing ie no pain & no extra meds that were causing reduction in sleep!) Verrry Grateful.

Pass Day
I have learned a valuable lesson this week. I am not yet in the "habit" of tracking calories. Chinese and leftovers I didn't track because I wasn't sure how, then that was followed by 2 days of not tracking at all. The power of old habits...wow. Saturday is a new day, and back to developing my "new normal".
