    HERE IS WHY I AM SO DAMM PROUD OF ME......

    WHEN I CAME HOME FROM VIETNAM I WAS A WRECK... I HAD/ AND GOT 3 OF MY TEAMMATES KIA...MY PARTNER OF 5 YEARS WAS KIA ...AND I DIDN'T KNOW IF I WOULD WALK AGAIN ON MY MY VERY OWN 2 FEET.....
    SO IN 1975 I JUMP IN WITH BOTH FEET WELL WHAT LEFT OF THEM...NO NOT A SWIMMING POOL,
    BUT A TEXAS FIFTH (1/2 GAL OF WHISKEY) AND I TOPPED IT OFF WITH MY SNACKS..SPEED, POT, MAGIC MUSHROOMS, COCAINE...YOU GET THE DRIFT.... AND I STAYED THERE UNTIL 1979.... ALL KINDS OF STUFF HAPPEN TO ME AND THAT I CAUSED BECAUSE I WAS DRUNK AND HIGH 24/7/365.

    1979...CHANGED ME FOREVER I WAS PUT INTO JAIL...I WAS FACING 10 YEARS IN THE STATE PENITENTIARY FOR NUMEROUS CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONAL. THE NAVY GAVE ME 3 OPTIONS... STAND AND FACE MY PUNISHMENT IN A CIVILIAN COURT OF LAW (WHICH I DID) OR FACE A COURT MARTIAL AND EVERYTHING THAT WOULD GO WITH IT...NONE OF IT GOOD... OR GET CLEAN AND SOBER AND START ALL OVER AGAIN.

    I DECIDED TO TAKE OPTION 3 NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED TO ME...I WAS GIVEN A 10 YEAR DIFFERED SENTENCE... ORDER TO PAY FULL RESTITUTION TO THE CITY OF AUBURN FOR DAMAGES ($250,000) STRIPPED OF MY RANK AND PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE ( UNTIL DEEMED READY/FIT FOR DUTY BY A JAG REVIEW BOARD).... AND PUT IN THE SOLE CUSTODY OF MY FATHER AND A NAVY JAG.....

    APRIL 30TH 1979 4 YEARS AFTER LEAVING VIETNAM....I COMMITTED MYSELF TO THE VA MENTAL HEALTH CENTER AT AMERICAN LAKE..... I WAS PLACED IN THE DETOX UNIT FOR 6 WEEKS....... THEN I WAS PLACED IN THE VIETNAM BURN OUT UNIT FOR ANOTHER 8-10 WEEKS... THEN I WENT INTO REHAB FOR ANOTHER 12 WEEKS.... AND I LEARNED HOW I WAS GOING TO LIVE MY LIFE WITH OUT THE USE OF DRUGS OR BOOZE.
    TONS AND I MEANS TONS OF STUFF HAS HAPPEN TO ME SINCE THEN...FAMILY DEATHS...3 MAJOR LIFE THREATENING SURGERIES.... AND A LOT MORE STUFF.....

    ALL THROUGH THIS NO MATTER THE SITUATION I REMAINED CLEAN AND SOBER TO THIS DAY ....I BUSTED MY HUMP TO DO EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO DUE MAINTAIN MY SOBRIETY. ....IT HAS ALLOWED ME TO HAVE A GREAT FAMILY WITH A WIFE I ADORE..2 SONS THAT ARE MY WORLD... A DAUGHTER IN LAW THAT IS JUST THE CREAM OF THE CROP... AND 3 WONDERFUL AND SPOILED GRAND KIDS.

    THROUGH IT ALL I STAND IN FRONT OF MY BATHROOM MIRROR EVERYDAY AND I MEAN EVERYDAY
    SINCE THEN AND TELL MYSELF
    "GREG IT'S ANOTHER DAY TO BE CLEAN AND SOBER I GOT THIS"
