When we decide to improve ourselves, it's difficult to not compare ourselves to others who are so much farther on the path to our goal. We need to take our eyes off of others and turn them inward towards ourselves. Compare today to yesterday and not to tomorrow. As long as you are making progress enjoy the journey.

Was out of town and now I'm back.
Pass days for 12th and 13th.
Yes 3xs for 14th.
Intentional on 12th but couldn't exercise on 13th because had to play catch up from out of town. Back on track of normal routine today! Posting early on purpose to get back into it.6 -

3:00pm interview with possible new school for daughter. Current school is academically excellent, but bad fit for her ASD (school is very achievement focused and she feels a little isolated in her year level) and current future work plans (not requiring a university degree in current vocational plans).
Managed a walk before dark still.
@RangerRickL. Your comment is especially pertinent to my daughter and her school. Because they strive to excel in academic achievement, the focus becomes on comparison to others. This supports/motivates the competitive, but can crush those who are not part of the continual competition (regardless of how supportive they are).
Same goes for any endeavour (losing weight, health management, business success, financial success, etc..). The continual drive for improvement by comparison against others and your own previous performance does eventually wear people down.
I posted a while ago about "dare to be average". It is impossible to continually better your best. So why not just try be adequate and take some time to appreciate where you are and "smell the roses". Oddly enough if you strive for average, you usually accomplish a LOT more.
Try do as much as yesterday, LESS 10%. If you do more, great, if not, no stress.
This way your daily goals are reachable. Some days you do more, some days not as much. In all cases, something gets done. Also against others it does not matter.
Be average, be happy, take time to enjoy what you can.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? yes walking 2 miles and weight training
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? yes
I am so humbled by this group. Wow the amount of exercise you guys do is more than amazing! There's no way some are in this for weight loss. I'd like to say it's inspiring but it makes me feel like a loser on most days. I know if I hit 11k steps because my back hurts can't imagine the amount you guys achieve kudos!
This is a self journey. Please don't be hard on yourself. We are all different. If you need to do any comparison. Compare all you have done today with what you were doing yesterday. See how far you have come! Look at all those little successes. Wow O! Look at all those changes you've made. You are not what you used to be. Look at the number of "Yes" since the beginning of the month. Look at the awareness you've since joining this challenge. You are unique, you are beautiful, you've made a decision for your health. That is wonderful.2 -

We are all here in this challenge "UAC" with 1 major purpose to get healthy and encourage each other on this journey.4 -

139 mins walking
Under 239 cal tracked every bit
So I just walked about 5/8 of a mile with a heavy backpack (art supplies, books, huge sketchbook, water), and it wasn’t comfortable, so I weighed myself with it, and I was 16 lbs heavier than this morning. About 1/5 of my total weight loss.
My monkey brain sometimes plays tricks with me and says you haven’t lost anything in the last year. But here is proof: I looked up my weight charts and the last time I weighed what I did with the backpack was May 1 of 2018, and it was really hard to walk today with those extra pounds. My ankles were hurting, my hip started being uncomfortable, my legs didn’t move easily as they normally do.
So I’m mentioning this because I’ve decided to weigh myself with my backpack once a week on Tuesdays to remind myself that even the final 1/5 of my weight loss is worth Maintaining!!
I’m on the lookout for other things you do to remind yourself of your accomplishment. I’d like to have one I do each day of the week.
Then I came here & saw @RangerRickL ‘s post @ @craigo3154 ‘s reminder of an earlier post of his.
Anti-perfectionism Technique: be average
I use it ALL the time with my art. ALL the time. And I can feel my body relax as I remember that I do this for fun
The comments also pertain to that monkey brain I mentioned. It thinks I did nothing in the past year because it’s comparing it to my earlier year’s weight loss. I FELT the difference. I will FIGHT to not go back.
Thank you, both, so much for all of your wisdom & guidance.6 -
@craigo3154
I also wanted to thank you for your guidance on maintenance. The scale is up slightly, but measurements are the same, hands & arms are leaner, I have more muscles. I’d be dieting right now if not for you. I’m paying attention to other indicators while tracking all & keeping exercise high.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 2 mile walk and then bathing each dog ugh
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
thank you again everyone! it means a lot
When I came outside to get the dogs and found them covered in mud from the draining pool, my first thought was screw it! I'm not walking them. I stood there thought a minute and put there leashes on and walked these dirty muddy dogs down my neighborhood street. Bathed both when we got home. I'm calling that a NSV13 -
Hilarious, @Ketch_22! Don't forget to show us the "after bath" photos!!3

@Ketch_22, oh, my goodness! They sure look like they had fun! Good on you for getting out with them anyway. I hope the baths weren't too painful.
@RangerRickL, awesome quotation! @craigo3154, an excellent reminder! I was actually talking to a work colleague about this today, how we not only shouldn't compare ourselves to others, we shouldn't stress about comparing ourselves to "when I was so much healthier", etc. Doing what we can, when we can, taking into account changing circumstances, etc., is so important. We are often so hard on ourselves, and that's not doing us any favours.4 -

One of those days that it was hard to put one foot in front of the other just dealing with my grief. HOWEVER, at the very last possible minute, I went out and got 25 minutes of walking the neighborhood (first time without my dog). So: YES x 3 for today!6
-
Yes x 3 although exercise wise was close to bare minimum and food wise I ate very close to goal. Low energy day, I’m guessing because I didn’t get enough sleep.
I love the advice to aim for average. It wasn’t too long after joining MFP that I got over the tension of comparing myself to others, but comparing myself to younger/healthier me caused me frustration for quite some time. I’ve had so many injuries and illnesses over the last five years that I eventually learned to just work with what I’ve got at the moment.4 -
