A quick question. If i stay below 80 carbs a day without eating all the fat would i then still lose weight. I am working in a kitchen 6am until 3pm and on the go all the time get 30 mins break. I was thinking if i stay below 80 carbs and then slowly lowered my carbs i might be alright. I keep falling off the wagon. Any ideas.

Why do you want to keep your carbs AND your fat low? Fat is satiating. Limit your carbs, eat your protein limit, and then consume fat to help keep you full. Can you lose weight doing that? Sure, but for me, it wouldn't be sustainable. I need to keep my fat around 50-60% of calories in order to be satiated and not snack between meals. I do Keto, so I'm under 50g per day, and I also practice IF and usually fat 18-23hrs most days, I don't think I could do that if I was limiting my fat during my feed window.

I could not manage by cutting my carbs (I do 20 carbs a day) and reduce fat and I am not doing such an energetic job as you, plus you have to get to and from work and have a life as well. I think you would become hungry and struggle to keep on track. I have lost a lot of weight by reduced carbs, moderate protein at each meal and having fat which I do not count. I never weigh any foods either but I have been doing this a few years. I normal eat my last meal around 6.30/7pm and have breakfast around 9.30/10am which is my fast window.

I was obese when I cut out all sweetener and any form of any grains so I did not have to worry about "eating all that fat" because I was obese. :)

If you are interesting in going Keto just focus on staying below 50 grams of carbs and let the other two macros shake out over time.

Keto I know was best for the health of my gut microbiome but if I try really hard I can still gain weight eating just 50 grams of carbs daily. :) No sugar cravings just makes it harder to overeat even the good stuff. I now understand the cravings came from my old gut microbiome.

Thanks for your reply, firstly i do eat fat but probably not as much i a should. On a normal day i would be eating. 5.30am Scrambled egg (2 eggs) made in olive oil with full fat cheese, probably around 20g. Then for lunch 11.45am (my 30 mins break) i would have a small salad with a hand full of full fat cheese 2 slice of ham and a big tbls of chicken mayo with 2 small packet of mayo. When i get home around 3.30pm i will have a snack (anything going) dinner around 5pm depends on my mood, but most times a costco crown chicken golden crispy with salad or vegetables and again with mayo. Other times if a bad day at wirk i will comfy eat when home. In the evening in front of tv is where i can get really bad, and starts to bring eating which means alk the good work i did throughout the day is lost. Is like i got a munching demon in me thats just want to keep going on eating. In the weekend i do lots of walk with the family. Anyway back to not want to eat as much fat, is not that i dont like fat is just i get bad reflux with it, hench if i can limit it a bit and still lose weight would be ideal. I am trying to shop now so no bad food are in the house, but no low fat food as again my stomach cant take fake sugar. Anyway thats why i was thinking i would try to stay under 80 carbs if i can, i am not looking at doing keto just lower my carb intake.

If I was hungry at 3.30pm, based on the timings you have given, I would have a large salad at 11.45 and add 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs to that meal, to try and get me through to 5pm. Or have the eggs at 3.30pm with a little mayo or hot boiled eggs mashed with a little butter. Rather than (anything going). I would plan that snack with a view of trying to cut it out, rather than it being a habit.

I do appreciate you are up early, with early breakfast and lunch. Are you able to add anything extra to your breakfast to make it more substantial, time is precious to you that time of the morning.

I don’t lose over 50 a day. I have to stay under 20 net to lose. You’ll have to test it.

Ps. Do IF too. It might change it up for you. I fast from roughly 7p-12p. Helps with hunger a lot. I surmise in my situation it’s due to blood glucose.

Wish i could fast, but my work place isn't the right place for that. I work in a kitchen from 6am until 3pm, i find i need my breakfast to see me though until lunch and lot of the times is a pot luck if i get 15 or 20 mins break at lunch. I do around 150000 steep at work by end of a work day and would need to have sime food intake, i do drink alot if water though out the day.

Kpk54, so true what you are saying, i will try not to eat anything after 5.30pm, might have a warm drink or a glass of water if i get the feelings to eat. I just dont know where my will power has gone to. I used to smoke 20+a day and one day 27 years ago i woke up and stopped, think if i look hard enough i will find that will power again.

I agree with above, first thing to try is to stop munching after dinner. Create a new routine, do something to keep busy and keep mind off the old, bad habit of after dinner snacking.

Good luck, you can do it!

When I started to work my way into fasting, the very thought of even skipping a snack was terrifying. But I did it slowly. Some days I could, other days I didn't. After I mastered that, then I started doing without breakfast. That changeover went faster. Then I started skipping breakfast and lunch. Now I can do 5 day water (and salt) fasts with no problems. I will have small waves of hunger during that time, but I have learned to work through them. If you had told me 6 months ago that I could go 5 days without food I would have passed you off as a nutcase. Not anymore!!!!

Your situation is a bit more complicated b/c you are surrounded by food ALL the time. However, you may find that once you start making small changes, building up to bigger ones, like skipping breakfast, won't actually be that big of a deal. I can certainly see how it would be daunting to start. Just keep with small changes one at a time, and build on that foundation. You can do this!

Are you an “all or nothing” kind of person? If so, you may to decide to be very strict before you’ll stop falling off the wagon.
For me, an all or nothing kind of person, I can’t allow myself that kind of leeway. Giving that much wiggle room is exactly what would derail me.

I think you just hit it sunny_bunny, i am all or nothing, i can do it for a couple of weeks and then i will fall of the wagon again. Think i need to look deep inside me to find my will power again.

Sounds like you are getting some fats in there anyhow, but you also want to pull fat out of body storage so you don't need to push the fats in your meals. I'd work first on the carb gram level and not worry about the fat grams, but get enough protein - yes you can still lose on 80 g carb but I'd make that 80 grams some whole foods (fresh veggies & possibly a bit of fruit or dairy) rather than processed snack foods. I'm a night worker and I fast from approx midnight/1 AM to 3 or 4 PM. Go with whatever your work window dictates, if you need something in the evening, grab a salty, crunchy dill pickle, or if craving sweet, have a delicious herbal tea (you can make this ice tea too) like Celestial Seasonings Apple Cinnamon, or Wild Berry Zinger, or Peppermint, etc.

I'm just going to add, you might want to eat your fats in your protein, higher fat ground beef/bison, fat streaked steaks. This will result in you feeling fuller longer. My DH gets reflux if he eats lots of fat, but if he does it this way, he doesn't have the issue.

That with timed restricted eating window as suggested above should help. With your schedule, TRE should work well for you.

I find that IF(intermittent fasting) is the way to go AND keep the CARBS below a hundred net carbs AND get at a half hour exercise at least once a day./thumbsup/

I lose easily on under 100 carbs. I don't eat low fat. When it's working I find myself hitting lower carb numbers after a while without really trying.

I have to get back to that place right now!

Im not sure about the carb number but I have the same peoblem with munching after dinner. I find if I eat a hard boiled egg or a piece of cheese it seems to satisfy me. I make sure I always have some low carb grab-and-eat snacks in the fridge so that I dont go for carby snacks.
