@craigo3154 Thanks for the opening discussion question,"Why did you join MFP?"
Several years ago, I decided to find an accountability partner. I did not know anyone my age to ask. I am the only senior in our law firm, several of the younger members of the law firm were using MFP and had joined a Plank Challenge. They recommended that I get the MFP app. I downloaded the MFP app and found the UAC program.
I did not want to have any responsibility in running an accountability program, but the prior leader was providing care for her mother and her adult son with special needs. After she left the UAC was inactive. Since I still wanted an accountability partner, I asked her for the 'keys to the UAC". In addition, I asked her permission to change the rules. The rule that I found most objectionable is that if you had more than 3 Pass days, then you were out of the UAC, but you could choose to rejoin in the following month.
In my experience, people often wind up inadvertently becoming leaders or managers. It's not talent, I'm here just because there was a vacuum at the top and I got pulled up into it. I never intended to have this responsibility.
Nonetheless, on a day like today, when I get to read all of your inspiring stories, I am so happy to be with you on the UAC team.

My discussion question of the day is motivated by @craigo3154 and his excellent discussion opener yesterday.
Help us create a list of your suggested discussion opener questions. What question would you like to have asked of your team members?

If you were to identify just one key thing that has been most important to you in your weight loss journey, what would it be?
What are the "red fkags" that tell you that you are in danger of derailing? What do you do when a red flag pops up?

Took afternoon off to run errands. Got a chance to fly once they were done.
Long weekend ahead...
If you were to identify just one key thing that has been most important to you in your weight loss journey, what would it be?
What are the "red flags" that tell you that you are in danger of derailing? What do you do when a red flag pops up?
@jan110144. Excellent topics.
To add:
- If you were to give someone wanting to lose weight only one piece of advice, what would it be?
- How do you assist/encourage a close family member trying to get fitter/healthier?
- What lessons have you learned from your own mistakes that you want to help others avoid?
- Who inspires you?
- What are you working to change about you?
- What do you see outside of MFP that you would want to change?
- What rules do you live by?
- Do you have progress photos to share?
- What setbacks have you overcome?
- What does personal success look like to you?
(If I keep going, I'll never get any sleep and I have an early morning tomorrow).
P.S. I'll try dig up some photos of when I was ice skating. Will definitely post them before the end of the month.8 -

1. I deserve better and I need to learn to put myself first
2. Confrontation. I lose focus and give up on my wants for that moment. (I am working on this)

It is kind of too early for me to be claiming the kitchen closed.
But here I sit and I am going to take a muscle relaxer in about five minutes.
@craigo3154 yesterday got my brain ruminating. I kind of answered how but the question was why.
I think about why MFP but the other question might be why UAC?
Why MFP - I had a personal trainer at a gym some years ago told me to do that. I did that. It worked. Years prior to that I was a weight watcher customer. It worked.
Gym stopped working for me. I used to be a spin class enthusiast. Things about that, I don't know but that is a big nevermind. It worked until it didn't. Maybe I will go to therapy. Maybe I will drink ten beers and post all about it on the internet.
Nevermind that.
MFP has got me on a 1500 calorie diet. That counts as weird but I am losing weight. I will probably lose my fifteen by the end of the month. My body kind of has an equilibrium around my old set point and all I got to do is have the discipline of tracking.
Why UAC? All I got to do is say it out loud to a public forum and I find myself doing it. Heh! You guys don't even know my real name. Heh! I change my username 4 times in 5 days.
Nevermind that. I am all stable now.
I am losing weight but I got to be stable about it. None of this gaining fifteen in the winter then spending spring trying to shake it. Yeah right. How many times have I said that? Heh! It used to be only five.
Cool - but what is cool is that my body ain't ruined like it was back in '04. I am not fifteen over my set point like I was a couple of weeks ago. Even then I had a semblance of fitness kind of.
@RangerRickL talks about inheriting this forum from a lady that has a special son. I am an adopted grandpa to a special little boy. Him and me, we hung out today. I make him happy. I know what makes him happy. That is a good place for my life right now. I got that muscle relaxer headed my way because that rascal won't put his feet down when I pick him out of the bathtub. But I will do it again tomorrow. I will do it everyday. His laughter is music.
Heh! Work vs exercise.
I exercised today. It was climb day. I climbed for 730 calories. I got a road up a mountain that is ingrained in me now. That road has given me better and more friends than the gym ever did.
but - I am kind of a grumpy old man.

Exercise: Yes, 20 min
Calories: Yes
Tracked: Yes
super tired & sluggish today and almost had a Pass cuz i just wanted to be lazy but i pushed myself to get a quick workout over with and i felt soo much better after, and proud i didnt have to waste a Pass day!
i really wanted to eat the cookies/cereal/chocolate we got in the house but i made sure i ate plenty of healthier foods throughout the day that i didnt have room for treats, i felt more satisfied filling up on fruit & complex carbs & protein than eating a couple bowls of cereal
tomorrow i think i'll dedicate the day to mopping, cuz that itself is a workout to me and i've been procrastinating it8 -

I'm back in the saddle both figuratively and literally. This was my first day back since my son's wedding last week, to tracking my intakes. It was also the first day in 2019 that I rode a horse. Great day out on the farm!
Exercise: I was in movement from 2pm until 4:30 pm. Working with the horses and lots of walking while working in a sand based horse arena.
Tracking: good

10 in 20 on track? YES for Day 9 of 20. Dropped 7.4 lbs so far, but yesterday was 8.6 lbs - I gained a bit back after two days w/ no exercise
Hydration? YES
Supplements? YES
Sleep? FAIL but slightly better.
BP monitoring - Never figured out why it spiked, but it's coming back down - actually up/down/up/down, but moving in the right direction. Bought a new cuff & monitor. I don't really think that was the problem but we'll see.
Bragging rights: two days in a row I skipped exercising. I let a busy schedule derail me. Exercising is a brand new habit and my grasp on it is fragile. It's not surprising then, that yesterday morning I didn't even remember exercise when putting together my mental list for the day. I had an errand I wanted to get out of the way right away, so got up, dressed & headed for the door. Then remembered... "drat, I was supposed to exercise. Oh well, I can do it when I get home." Hand on doorknob, I stopped, battled with myself, and finally admitted that if didn't get it out of the way first thing, the busyness of the day would crowd it out. I headed back, changed clothes, and got to it. I'm so proud of myself I think I may have sprained my arm patting myself on my back6
