Anyone struggling with ganing weight back?

I had gastric bypass 4.5 years ago. Lost 110 pounds. I was happy with my new weight. Then I had knee replacement surgery and discovered potato chips...which was my gateway food back to sugar! I've gained back 25 pounds....which is scary to me. I beat myself up, then "medicate" with food to the point where I make myself sick. Then I beat myself up again, and the vicious cycle continues. Anyone else in my shoes! I'd love to find an "account-a-billy-buddy" or goup where we can check in daily and support each other.

Not into beating myself up when I make poor choices, one person quoted 'you have not failed if you keep trying'. try to keep that in mind. I like reading the posts and there has been a monthly group that keeps each other accountable, that may help. I just keep on trucking....not always perfect and not trying to yo/yo diet anymore. I weigh in once a week, sometimes up, sometimes down....super slow loser overall around one pound a month, but obviously I can do better. My recommendation is stop trying to be perfect, accept when you blow it and start in again. Easier said than done, I know. :)

Reach out, send me a message. If you're on Facebook, friend me...we can connect through here or messenger.

We do have the accountability thread as a great start. If you need more, let me know! I'm always down! Helping others makes me keep myself more accountable.

I had VSG about three years ago. I lost 100 lbs. I have had some health issues unrelated to the surgery and I have used food to comfort myself. I ended up gaining back 20 lbs. It's definitely demoralizing and disappointing. I am struggling to lose the 20 lbs. I have started walking again for exercise and tracking my food here on MFP. These are the two things I did to lose all the weight originally. I am trying to be positive and get back to the mindset of eating to be healthy in the long term and not a "diet". Also, I have started to eat a vegetarian diet which I am finding really helps me to feel better overall. I am sure to track my protein and carbs but with MFP it is pretty easy. I totally understand the overeating until you feel sick. It is a vicious cycle. I know that whatever I bring into the house is going to be eaten if it is junk food. So I just try not to bring it in the house. There is temptation everywhere. And it isn't always easy. But I try to remember why I had the surgery and how crappy I felt in the first couple of weeks.

I had VSG 4/16. I dropped ~105lbs within a year, leaving me about 20lbs from my goal weight. I remained there, despite all attempts at eating healthy/exercising. Over the next 18months, I've slowly gained about 15 of it back. Rededicating myself this month, hoping to finally get to my goal this year. I'm working on it by fixing one habit a week instead of trying to redo everything all at once. Last week was getting just my breakfast back on track, restocking the house with my favorite protein shakes and letting everything else go without stressing it. This week that feels natural again to grab every morning, so I'm starting with the gym 2/week.

My recommendation is to find a small healthy habit you can be proud of maintaining, that is genuinely EASY for you and start there. For some, it's getting all their water in, for me it was breakfast etc.

I posted this in another tread and realized it is better suited for this conversation. Since I'm right there with you.

I had VSG November 2014, and lost 60 lbs the first year. Then my weight started creeping up - my fault for going back to my sugary comfort foods - and I steadily gained back 50 lbs over the next 4 years. So in February of this year, I met with my Family Practice doctor and talked about weight loss, and weight gain, and what I needed to do to "fix" my head and get a grip on my weight gain.

So she and I set monthly goals (8 pounds the first month, 6 pounds the next etc.) and I see her monthly. Since February, I've lost 27 pounds! Why? Because I'm being held accountable for my weight loss. That has made me reevaluate how and what I eat.

So smoothies, made with high protein shakes and frozen fruit that always includes blueberries (for their antioxidant properties) have replaced two of my meals. The 3rd meal is small portions of what I call "normal food". Since I can't seem to totally stop the carb cravings in the evening, I make sure I have 100 calorie bag of cookies or snack mix available. And I limit myself to ONE! Do I have days where I binge on chips, and ice cream and birthday cake, YES. But I'm just trying to get into the habit of eating healthy foods and not beat myself up everyday!

Yup! I’m in this boat. I had RNY March 4th 2016 and got to my goal of 165 fast forward to now......I ate through my feelings when my husband told me his job was transferring him to another city. We sold our home, moved our family and my parents immediately started failing at 92 and 88 I lost them both within a month, as an only child and their sole caregiver for 6 years I was devistated. They have been gone 7 months now and I’m still a little lost in my head but my husband and son and I are finally getting there ( they lived with us). And now after eating through my tragic deaths and moving to a new city I’m fat again!!!!!! WTF!!! I feel like I’m waking up from a nightmare. Anyway I’m back, starting over yet AGAIN! Joined the YMCA and had my first personal Trainer yesterday and going again today. How did I do this to myself 💔 I’m really sad and disappointed in myself.

Had lap and surgery in 2011. Initially lost 148 pounds then had cancer scare. Hysterectomy in 2013 which all but killed my metabolism. In 2015 my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away 6 months after the diagnosis. Struggled for several years only to find out that the band has damaged my esophagus and it has to be removed. No bariatric coverage thru insurance so gotta come up with 10k to get rid of it. Wish I had never heard of weight loss surgery.

Oh my gosh....I belong with you in this group. My heaviest was 292.5 and my lowest weight was 172.5. I am going to beat myself up here.....I have gained 65 lbs. because I got lazy. Lazy with exercise and watching my portions. While others have trouble with, say, eating chocolate, not this girl. I feel that I need support to get myself through. I begin the day logging my foods in, but run out of ambition to do so later in the day. I am grateful that I had the procedure and the positive things that have come out, but boy, do I need assistance with this phase.
