Every month, about the 15th, it's time to take our focus off the scale. Now, let's share something positive that is happening in our lives that is a result of your choice to develop healthier habits.
For me it was a weekend in which both Saturday and Sunday, I was able to do two full hours of outdoor activity and be fit-for-the-challenge. Saturday, I was lifting and carrying logs and branches during two hours of brush and dead fall cleanup in a forest. On Sunday, I walked for two hours leading a horse and giving rides to children.
What about you? What is going right in your life?5 -

Even though I have not yet met my Scale Goal, I have two NSV’s for the month. FIRST, I have been asked a lot about my weight loss. It always surprises me. I think we sometimes don’t realize the good we are accomplishing because the “gradual change” we see in the mirror everyday registers as “no change” in our minds. SECOND, last week I went to buy a couple new dress shirts at one of those stores that give you a little more service. After looking at me and measuring me, he said, “ok, so you are a slim fit.” What?! He brought me a shirt and it fit very nicely!17

07/12 - 333.6 - I am so excited! I'm a school administrator and have been off work for the summer since June 7th. When I weighed in on 6/8, I was 349.6. One of my goals this summer was to kick my exercise and good eating habits into high gear. Here I am barely over a month later and I'm down 16 lbs! I'm keeping my calories to 2,000 most days; if I do go over, then I exercise longer to ensure I have a deficit. The biggest change is that I've been doing a LOT of walking. I exercise 7 days a week, where my 1 rest day is just a 30 minute easy walk. The other days I'm averaging over 70 minutes of exercise per day. Eating out is almost non-existent...too much salt. I finally found the right combination of food, exercise, and sleep that works best for my body.
07/13 - 337.2 - I don't have a clue why the big jump overnight. But I'm still thrilled because Saturday is my actual weigh-in day, and today's weigh-in was over 3 lbs less than last week.
07/14 - Church day, no time for weigh-in this morning. Steps = 16,308 for the day!
07/15 - 336 - Planning to do 2 Leslie Sansone workouts today (100 minutes total); aiming for at least 15,000 steps this week. I'll update tomorrow with how I did today. I figured why not plan my exercise like I plan my food.

One of my NSVs is that I'm down a whole dress size since starting with MFP last fall. Past history has shown that it takes 20-30 lbs lost for me to change a dress size (in either direction). But that's an old NSV. Time to repeat that process and do more. A more recent NSV has been the increased energy I have. Who would have thought that expending more energy would increase your level of energy? But it really does. One thing I've learned this summer is that purposeful planning is everything! We have to be intentional, even with our exercise. I find now that I am constantly looking for more ways to increase movement. Now my Star Trek Enterprise binge watching happens while marching/jogging in place. And I can now keep that going throughout an entire 40+ minute episode, sometimes longer.13

Everything counts. Congrats on the walk. Do you wear/carry a step counter? You may be surprised how many steps your "gentle" walks could add up to. You got this!6 -

My NSV for this month is being very much in tune with my body even though I have been very stressed. I was able to manage my eating and exercises. I didn't track as usual but I was always talking to my "stressed self".
I know that may sound funny but, those of you that know me here (UAC) know that I have some truths I say to myself. They were very handy during this pass 4 weeks.11 -

Awesome NSVs, everyone! I'll be back tomorrow to read more.
For me, my NSV was how great I felt on my holiday to Hollywood for a Harry Potter conference at the end of June/beginning of July. I was really happy with the clothes/costumes I was able to wear and eager for photos. Where old me would have used the holiday as an excuse to eat out 24/7, current me grocery-shopped to balance out nutrition versus some indulgences. I didn't do quite as well with my eating at the end of vacation as at the beginning, but I still went to the gym every morning and made sure I got at least 10K steps every day; although not as much as I would do in a "normal" day, it still beats the past, where I wouldn't have made an effort to be active at all while also eating way too much. My weight was up when I got back, and while it took me a couple days to get totally back into the swing of things, I'm finding myself less stressed than I would have been in the past (but also not totally unmotivated). (Kicking that binary thinking to the curb!) I've still got a goal, but there isn't actually a strict deadline, since achieving it just means figuring out how to maintain and, you know, living my life. So I hope I'm easing into a continued gradual weight loss to goal weight while still enjoying vacations and weddings and ice cream during the summer!11 -

I have several nsvs the biggest one is how much more active I am. Even though I’m in an MS flare I’m more active than ever before during non flare times. Clothes that last year were too tight are now getting a little loose. I’m going to be forced to go shopping before too much longer.12 -

Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes, I was going to just take a wash of it but went back and logged all the ugliness of it.
My NSV happened on Friday. I work for a woman who installs commercial/residential wallcoverings. Most of the work I can do from home. She is usually out but was in the office Friday and when I walked in she mentioned how "thin" I looked. I am nowhere close to being thin, but it sure made me feel like I was getting there!11 -

I was all ready to go try out a body sculpt plus abs after work tonight to start focusing more on strength to balance the cardio. But forgot about dinner plans we had which included quite a drive and blew the rest of the evening. Had I planned better I could’ve done a walk at lunch! Ah well love and learn I was 20 calories over... if I had skipped on the ale at dinner I might have made calories but still had no time to fit in exercise unless you count taking the garbage out! 😂
Pass day #1 today
But as for NSV I pulled out some capris jeans I’ve had stored away because they haven’t fit in a while and they’re fitting perfectly now! Woot!! Back to Zumba tomorrow ...9 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. 2 mile run and then a 2 mile walk. First day of half marathon training for me.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.
As far as the question goes I am looking forward to going to an amusement park with my niece. We are going on Monday. I didn't go last year because I was scared that I wouldn't be able to ride any of the rides due to my weight.
Has anyone noticed their Fitbit being off on calories for exercise today? I usually feel that mine is pretty spot on but today it gave me just over 1000 calories for an exercise that burned 615 last time and the time before that it was like 580...all speeds and time were similar, weather was similar and I was on the same trail.6 -
Pass Day #3. I don’t have a succinct explanation for today, but the important part is that I’m completely confident I’ll be back on track tomorrow.
My NSV was the strength I had on my bike trip last week. I was sick for 8 weeks straight this winter (broke a rib coughing) and then another 3 weeks in late May/early June. Everyone in my house got sick, but for a MUCH shorter period. Even my daughter, who had been undergoing chemo treatments at the time, got over the same illness weeks before I did. I lost confidence completely in this body of mine. My husband bought me an ebike for this bike trip because it seemed impossible that I would be able to keep up with our group. Training for the trip went surprisingly well and I started thinking maybe I didn’t need the ebike, but I didn’t want to be wrong and hold everyone up, so I took it. My ebike weighs a good 20lbs more than a hybrid. So by riding my ebike powered off, I was actually riding harder than everyone else. I am HAPPY with my body again.
PS I mentioned my daughter’s illness once before, but for those who don’t know, her cancer is cured now and she is fine.13 -
So inspirong to read everyone's NSVs!
Yes to all 3 today. Ran 3 miles this morning.
My NSV is being able to run 10 miles this past Saturday after not having run more than 5 miles in a day for almost two months. It proves how much stronger I've gotten to be able to jump right back into double-digit mileage.12
