Terri from Northern Ireland. Back for my tenth month. Working on improving my fitness and health. Made the Winners Circle 9 times so far.
Goal for 2019 is to reach maintenance. Weight has been steadily trending downwards,
UAC is a good place for anyone to start the practicing of new habits, in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere
Just a few details on my journey to health and fitness.
Aim for 2019 ~ reach 155.Stick with the process. It DOES work! But it does take time, effort, and most of all, patience!
Aim for each month ~ Weigh less at the end than I did at the beginning
I am FOCUSED on heathy food choices and DETERMINED to achieve my goals!
Age: 73; Height 5’2”; Female
SW: 227lbs (Mar 2014)
LW: 153 (Oct 2016)
UGW: 153
CW: 164- I tend to bounce up and down between 160 - 165. Occasionally I bounce up/down a little more.
- My ideal situation would be to be around 155, to allow me some wiggle room for holidays/celebrations, hence my goal for 2019.
- I use CI/CO and exercise for extra calories.
- Logic would suggest that I have found a natural comfortable weight, and, according to modern BMI calculation, I am in the upper range of normal for my age and height. However, logic doesn't always dictate our desires and feelings. 😂
- Getting and staying healthy and fit requires a permanent lifestyle reset.
- Losing weight is only one of the elements.
- Eating healthy and staying actively is not OPTIONAL, but an ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL.
THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts on weight which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be several lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a permanent lifestyle change for most people.

Back for my 8th month. I’ve only been in the circle 3 times. Re enforcing healthy habits is my goal every month. UAC keeps me logging and close to my calorie goals.
I am actively losing and am down a total of 90lbs from my highest weight in 2017. August marks my one year anniversary with MFP and 60lb of my loss has been this last year. Last August I was a size 22, this year I’m a 10.
This month I’m aiming for the winner’s circle.8 -
I've been an on and off member of the UAC for nearly 3 years. Yes, years! I'm returning after the birth of my second child, a beautiful son, in June. Today I had my 6 week postnatal check with my doctor who's given me the all clear to start exercising again, gently at first. The UAC helped me lose a lot of the weight after I had my daughter and I'm aiming for the same and more this time. Slow and steady with consistent healthy habits. Wishing everyone a healthy and happy August.12

This will be my 4th month as a member of UAC. I haven't made it to the winner's circle yet, but have definitely developed some good habits and made some wonderful friends! I'm 53 years old and trying to lose those stubborn last 10 lbs! August is vacation month with my hubby and kids, so probably won't make the winner's circle, but will still be checking in and logging as often as I can. Welcome to all!9

HI, My name is Priscilla, this time around it is my second month with UAC. I love this group and was part of it before life took me away to deal with other things NOW I am BACK! Ready to start a new journey! Luckily I did not gain all my weight back before I came to my senses and rejoined this group. This journeys total is 8.6lbs for a total of 23 lbs. I am from Courtenay on Vancouver Island British Columbia. I turn 60 in August and work full time as a Supervisor at London Drugs. Looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you.7

Hello! Returning to this challenge after taking a very long break. I have been inconsistent with diet and exercise over the years, with an all or nothing approach, and I know that I need more accountability in my life to make it happen. Looking forward to meeting you all and to getting back on track with my fitness for August.6

Hi, I’m Maddie,
I began my weight loss journey 1/1/16 at 228.3 lbs. I took a year, trimming portion sizes, walking , cooking more at hime, and then the new habits accumulated & I began really losing weight 6/2017, 211 lbs.
By Nov 2017, I weighed 196.
In March 2018, I joined UAC at 180.8
April 25, 2019 hit my goal weight of 153
UAC was (and is) immensely helpful in helping me lose those final 27-28lbs & maintaining.
I was in the Winner’s Circle my first 11 months, and about half of the months since then.
I think of UAC like the old TV show, “Cheers”:
Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your worries
It sure would help a lot
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You want to be where you can see
The troubles are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows your name
You want to go where people know
The people are all the same
You want to go where everybody knows your name

Overweight all my life and have gotten to my goal or close to it at least three times in my life. I'd like for it to stick this time! More accountability I hope will help me. I'm 5'1" and 51, married to an addictive and compulsive man for 14, almost 15 years.

Welcome new comers and those returning! Love hearing about everyone's journey. I joined UAC in May 2019 and have made the WC each month. The real win is the support, ideas and tips each member gives. I am 54 and started MFP in Feb at 168 my highest weight ever. I am 5'7 and now at 151 but REALLY trying to get to 145. Logging every day has become an addiction for me and walking my dogs each day has given them an addiction. Little daily improvements add up to big changes!
Every day in every way I'm getting better and better - best of luck!5 -
Hi everyone this is my first one in this challenge. Due to some medical issues last three years and third baby I’ve gained more weight than I am I have. Looking to lose and maintain a healthy steady weight loss with some accountability!6

Hi everyone I am back after stepping away for awhile. I finally have hubby in therapy to get him ready for his knee surgery. I have my parents use to a one day a week where I do whatever they need. I just went for my follow up with my primary. It's not pretty so I have a lot to work on. Baby steps for me too but the home front seems to be stable.4

I did UAC in 2016 and then life got crazy getting my house fixed up to sell and combining households with the beau with the kids off to college now. I’m turning 48 this week and heading out on a cruise next weekend to celebrate the boyfriend’s mum’s 80th bday! So more than likely I won’t make the winners circle this go around, but we’ve brought a WiFi box for island stops so should be good to log in every other days and keep at it so I can get right back in the grove when we get back! Love the accountability and support here. I’m horrible at self maintenance but very good at competition and accountability to others 😅 and really enjoy the support and positive energy here! 🥰
My highest weight was after my DD was born at 217. I generally let myself get to 199 before that 200 number looms and i hunker down and get somewhere between 175 and 180 where I feel pretty good. I’d love to 165! Any smaller than that and I don’t think my German Swedish Viking heritage would handle it 😂(that’s an excuse) 😂4 -
Hi new friends! I’ve given myself a fresh start with a new MFP account and I’d like to try out this challenge! It sounds like you are all very supportive.
I’ve hit my highest non-pregnancy weight this week and it’s gotta stop. This summer has been incredibly stressful at work and I have been stress eating. I also had a couple rounds of steroids, so that didn’t help.
My biggest battles are my health (I’m have a couple of chronic illnesses—autoimmune, which can leave me sick and depleted of energy if I overdo it), and my time (I work full time and have 2 little boys). But I can and I will do this!
I’m also in training to be a yoga teacher, and I graduate in November. Although my goal is to promote that “Yoga is for everybody, and yoga is for every body” I could still do more, be less injury prone, and feel much better if I were more fit. Looking forward to getting to know you beautiful humans!

Hello:
I have been with MFP for over 8 years now but only tracking intermittently. Accountability is a hard point for me I tend to slide off quickly when I start skipping days.
I have hit my highest weight ever and it was a shock so I started exercising and tracking 2 weeks ago.
I want to continue to go strong and I hope this challenge will keep me on track.
The group sounds like it is just the thing I need and am looking forward to start.

I’m new to this group.it seems to be exactly what I need! I am looking for some inspiration and accountability as I work to build healthy daily habits. I’ve always been fairly committed to getting exercise in but I have never managed to make logging meals and healthy eating a part of my daily routine. As a result, I’ve slowly gained 20 unwanted lbs. Looking forward to learning some habit forming strategies from those who make the coveted Winning Circle!4

Hi there, my name is Kelly and looking forward to being part of this group.
I've recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and keeping the weight off is proving very difficult, despite the exercise I do every day.
I was only 125 pounds but I plummeted to 156 pounds in a very short space of time.
After speaking to a doctor more familiar with this condition, she had recommended a diet of 1200 calories comprising of 60g of protein per day along with a hour of strength training 3 days a week and cardio 5 days a week.
Unfortunately, people with this condition have to work harder to keep the weight off and gain muscle, hence the new regime. I've been given a programme by a PT instructor at the gym who was kind enough to show me how to use the equipment and what muscle groups I should be focusing on. (I've only recently joined, and never been to a gym before).
I can't do this alone, so I'm hoping being here with this group and keeping track of my calorie intake will help me keep to this new regime.
Until this, I was quite fit, used to run every day and worked out at home, and never had to track what I ate before. This is all very new, so any help or advice will be greatly welcomed.
Thank you for accepting into this group.
Kelly.

Hey there, just found and joined this group for August. I need more accountability. I will do my best.3

Hi, everyone! I used to follow MFP, but was always very successful on Weight Watchers. It just won't do it for me anymore and now I'm realizing I was eating too much sugar and not NEARLY enough calories (due to free-points fruit on WW). I am very excited about my weight loss so far with MFP and it keeping me on track, so this challenge is what I need, along with the people to share the happiness and hardships with!!! I look forward to the encouragement and encouraging!!!4

Hello everyone! My name is Kai and this will be my second month doing the UAC. This challenge has helped keep me motivated and on track all but one day. I’m really glad that I took the plunge last month and joined up. I look forward to sharing the next month of my journey with everyone.7
-
Hi everyone! This will be my first time in this challenge but it looks like exactly what I need. Can’t wait to get started!6
-
This will be my second month in the UAC . . . it's an amazing way to reinforce accountability. I'm also in the X-Mas weight loss challenge; 22 weeks to go and I have 35 lbs to lose. If I can achieve that goal, I won't be at an ideal weight, but I'll be so much healthier.
Along with faithfully logging at MFP, I also walk everyday (my dog Rascal makes sure of that) and I get to the gym at least 3x/week. I am single and don't have any kids at home, so I also have time to go out dancing with friends which is another great way to stay active. I live in San Diego, California, so it's a great place for year-round activity.4 -
Hi, thanks for keeping the group going for so long. I am back after a break so I'm hoping this will refocus me :-) Good luck everyone

August will be my 21st month of participating in the UAC challenge with the goal being to live a healthy life. Welcome to all the new team members joining UAC for the first time in August, and to the "virtual friends" with whom I have become acquainted. I am privileged to be among friends who share a common goal!5
-
Hi! I am Michelle and this is my 2nd month! My goal for August is to continue seeing the scale go down as well as to continuing my paleo eating lifestyle (it is not as easy as I thought it would be, but necessary due to autoimmune disorder). Fitness goals are to swim 3 days a week, strength training 2 days and yoga 1 day.
Have a happy August!5 -
Hello, this is my first time in the group. Over the past 5 years I've gained 20-25 pounds and in the last year I've been trying to lose weight but it has been an up and down journey. My ultimate goal is to lose 20 lbs by the end of this year.4
-
I haven't been on MFP for a few years, but realized I need to track calories and exercise, and also need some accountability, so this group seems like a great thing! I've been cycling to work, which is 8km/5mi each way, but haven't done much to modify eating/drinking. Looking forward to this in August!4

I was a member of UAC in the summer of 2017 and it made all the difference in my weight loss journey. Life got in the way after that and I stopped using MFP. I started again in July of this year and immediately looked for UAC. I strive to make it to the winners circle in August!5

Hi! I'm Lisa. This is my second month with UAC. I'm 60 years old. I enjoy exercising and am blessed to live by the beach in SoCal. I'm ready to get back on track after a 2 week trip to Georgia to meet my grandson.🥰
