Team member @jan110144 and I share a great love for horses. Jan rides a much more sophisticated dressage style. My horse back riding is solely recreational in that I primarily ride to be outdoors with the animals that I love. Three weeks ago, one of those animals, Charlie Horse (yep!), who is primarily ridden by my granddaughter Lucy, surprised me by launching me into the air. I landed hard on my back. My head hit hard but I was protected by my helmet. Being a 69 year old who wants to grow up to be a cowboy, after I was able to recover from having the wind knocked out of me, I got back on the horse and rode for 40 minutes. Then, I went for medical care.
Nothing broken, but one of my ribs is still very sore.
Yesterday, I got back on Charlie, the horse that sucker-punched me. . He did try me again, but I was ready this time.
As of yesterday, I"m back in the saddle again...until the next time.

@RangerRickL Fortunately, Annie and I are long past this stage (at least it has been a number of years since she dumped me). I used to say these incidents were my bone density tests ... if I got up and nothing was broken, I figured the bones were good.
Glad you walked away with nothing major ... also glad you wear a helmet! Way too many bad accidents with good riders who refuse to wear one.5 -
@RangerRickL The clip above may not be you...but I'm sure it was still one nasty fall. Glad you are OK!2

Ouchy ouchy aaaagh! I used to go riding. Aged about ten the stable got a new teacher. She insisted we learnt to ride bareback. We were all nervous. As if the horses sensed it they started throwing us off. I remember after a few weeks of falling off repeatedly my sister being thrown into a fence and the instructor shouting at her to re mount. Well, I got off in solidarity and we never went back. I've ridden a few times since but it always seems a long way up! Well done to you for getting back in the saddle.
Yes x 3. Lots of walking in the fresh air today. We made friends with this red admiral in the woods. He kept landing on my daughter and husband's heads!

@RangerRickL, so glad you weren't hurt worse.
Right before my husband and I started dating I was riding and was thrown three times by a horse that didn't want to be ridden. One of those three times he did the "hi oh Silver" thing.
I ended up with a sprained ankle, hurt knee, and a few scrapes but I got up on him again and finished that ride. I was really stubborn when I was younger.

I rode quite a lot when I was in my early teens. Worked in local stables to pay for saddle time. Haven't ridden since then, though. I graduated to motorbikes! Lol! If I ever need a mobility scooter I plan to get a Harley Davidson trike! 🏍

@BonnieHosk85 Within the last several years, I acquired a sweet horse which was almost perfect in every way, except when she began to rear (the Hi-Ho Silver Thing). In my experience, that is the most dangerous fault in that a horse can go over backward on top of you. I gave that horse away with full disclosure of the fault.
Regarding the current horse that bucked me. I worked with him both yesterday and today. Now, that I have been warned by being bucked, I am skilled enough to ride defensively. Whenever bad things happen with a horse, it's best to go back a few steps and work on the basics within a very confined area. We are back to working in a 60 foot round pen and then today, after a vigorous sweaty one hour in the round pen, we moved over to the sand based arena. All went well yesterday and today. I'm wary and ready.
All in all, a good couple of days for this old horseman.
RodeoRickL is not my preferred name.5 -
Exercise: a lot of horse related activities and both casual as well as intensively active riding
Tracking; yes
Calories: under by okay margin5 -
First, let me say thank you for so many kind words a couple of days ago.
Second, @RangerRickL, you have my respect. There’s not much chance I’d get on a horse these days and zero chance I’d get back up if I’d been thrown off.
Actually there are many many people here who have my respect. Loved the NSVs and always enjoy reading the exercise updates.
Pass Day #3 yesterday and #4 today. Just dealing with some abdominal upset, unfortunately not unusual for me. I think I’m finally done now and ready to get back on track. The scale is way up, which is almost amusing because I’d been concerned I was losing too quickly just a week ago.
New day tomorrow .6 -
