We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for August are below:

Today's Topic: Summer's Lessons; Falls Goals
As we approach the traditional end of summer this weekend, let's look back over the Summer months. What lessons did you learn (or relearn) in your Lifestyle Journey that have been a help going forward? With that in mind, what goals have you set for the Fall?

My summer lesson was mentioned by @podkey in yesterdays thread. While on a 2 week vacation, I learned the value of being active when I wasn't always able to get some cardio or other exercise in. Average steps per day more than doubled. I lost a little weight and my body wasn't too upset despite the bad knee and back and came back with momentum forward.
For the Fall, I hope to keep up daily intentional activity whether I walk or not, though I will try to walk each day if possible. Right now I am limited a bit in what I can do with my back, but I will just try to keep moving and see if I can get my steps up by sitting less. Daily tracking emphasis will continue.0 -
My summer lesson is that if you ride a lot of hilly routes on your bike, then you get better at climbing hills!
My fall goal is to walk ~28 miles in a single day (over Thanksgiving weekend) to fill in a gap I have on the segments that I've completed thus far on the Ice Age Trail. If the weather is halfway decent in December, then I might be able to get some more segments hiked during Christmas break to get my total miles up to 400 miles, which is about 1/3 of the total trail length.0 -
Summer: Learned that intuitive tracking didn’t work for me. Gained weight up to next to my Goal Weight. Back to tracking on the App.
Fall: More meal preps, Chili and try some new meals.0 -
Oh my an Ice Age Trail. wow! Yeah riding hilly routes is great. I have a classmate friend who is a member of the million feet club which means he climbed over 1,000,000 feet on his bike in a year. With my age and other stuff I am not going to be an official member of that club and doubt that I exceeded that amount in a year. I know that I have ridden more than 6000 miles in a year a couple of times and averaged climbing about 100 feet per mile so maybe I climbed about 600,000 feet in a year or at least 500,000 without having such a goal. In my mind's eye I could have climbed that much in a year but gosh having to do it might be a chore for sure.
My fall goal is to keep on keepin' on boring as that seems.0 -
My lesson was about the challenges of travel. I do great when I'm home for extended periods of time, but travel throws everything out of the window!
My goal, then, is to try to figure out how to eat in a more controlled manner when I'm away!0 -
I relearned that I need a plan for late night eating.
My goal is to get into healthy desserts again.0 -
My lesson l learned for the summer was being busy and trying to stay on plan ww's very difficult. It seems that I n needed to be able to slow our down a bit so I could just think. That leads into falls goals. Slowing it down I haven't had the pleasure of doing that yet and so goes my story a I finish up Summer.0
