Exercised?: No (Severe smoke haze visibility < 1km, warnings not to exercise outsize)
Calories?: Yes
Tracked?: Yes
Severe smoke haze today (and expected tomorrow). Government health warnings to limit exposure to outdoors and not to exercise outside. Even the few times I have been briefly outside for a few minutes makes the eyes water.
Will try get some bodyweight exercises done tonight, but have not done any as yet, so it's a no unless I post more later.
Mentally a slightly better day today. Also daughter is spending a few days with aunt and cousin camping near a river. This also means my wife and I get some downtime (which I think we both need).
Topic for today: How do you reward yourself? When you have a win, how do you celebrate? What can you do for yourself for a job well done?
This is oddly enough, a hard one for me. Food is not a big driver for me (but I do like my wife's pavlova ). Flying my drones I enjoy, but it's not really a "reward" for a job well done (more a diversion). Maybe some time in a comfortable environment with friends in a way that I do not feel the "need" to do anything (like clean house, fix things, manage people, etc...). The last time I can recall had such a situation was on holiday in Phuket in Thailand over 4 years ago (problem is that is an expensive reward).

@craigo3154
Thanks for opening today’s discussion page!
I’m back in California on emergency issues related to my Aunt.
I must personally go to various financial institutions and personally deliver court documents.
I hope to catch a late flight to Chicago. It’s scheduled to arrive there after midnight

@craigo3154 for me every day that I stay in health is a gift and being able to run up a hill without getting so winded is a daily reminder for me. That is a gift every day.....but I won't pass up an opportunity to go shopping once in a while either because everything fits and feel really nice.
😊👙 👠
Today, I am working on the water. I've been slacking. 💦
Have a successful day, all!6 -

Very sorry for the disruptions caused by the fires in Australia....and now, concern for the Philippines.1 -
3 yes for me with exercise being walks to and from the doctor twice. First to book the appointment then later to actually see doctor. I have to find a new doctor because my new medical aid benefit isn't accepted at my old one. This guy is a sports doctor so sounds like he will support my passion even though I'm just an amateur athlete. Seeing physio for my right shoulder on Thursday so hopefully will start getting range back and sort out the problem.
Also helped with kids class which is always good.
Rewards are a tricky one. I do like sweet treats but have learnt to allow myself some or else my cravings send me into a binge. That saying I haven't got the balance right now and am definitely having too many treats. I know I find that aspect easier when I'm training hard but I need to find the discipline to do it when I'm not training as well. Clothes and beauty stuff don't interest me. New Jiu Jitsu gear is an option but right now I'm saving for a couple of trips and can't spare the cost of decent great that I don't actually need. Technically the trip I have planned could be counted but I'm going once I have the money not once I'm back at goal weight or anything like that so it's a reward for saving more than anything.
Looking forward to hearing other reward options.7 -

Track: Yes, walikng
Calories: Yes
Exercise: Yes
I had decided to add "The kitchen is closed" to my daily goal. So far it is working.
So here "The kitchen is closed "
@craigo3154 like you I will like to reward myself with a travel to places I have never been. Too expensive. So, I will like to reward myself with a day or 2 away from home all by myself where I do not need to do anything.
I don't like eating out or shopping, it's too stressful.
Last year, my husband gave me a gift of all by myself for a weekend and it was wonderful. He booked a hotel in town and left me there. He took care of all the things I would have done that weekend. I came back all energized. It was refreshing.6 -
After several Pass Days, I've got another 3 x Yes day. I was travelling, staying in hotels, couldn't log my food as my little tablet had smashed its screen during the trip out, lack of exercise due to full working or travelling days, going over calories in restaurants ...
Exercise today: 25 minutes swimming, 60 minutes walking.
Calories: Yes, stayed under, and yes, logged it all.
Rewarded myself by having coffee with friend and a cinema visit. Rewarded myself even more by ignoring what was left on my To Do list for today and relaxed with a cup of tea and a book.
Should be able to do most of my little jobs tomorrow.

Yes x 3.
Interesting question @craigo3154 as I'm not finding it easy to answer. I don't know. I don't know if I do?!
@w8goal4life enjoy your SE Asia trip. I taught in Vietnam for a few months what feels like a lifetime ago and had a great time travelling there and Thailand too. Lucky you!

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 60 minutes Concept 2 rowing machine.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
@am_change - Where did you teach in Vietnam?? I was there as a young man of twenty ( which was a lifetime ago ) 1969-1970 with the U.S. Army. Mostly in Qui Nhon, Central Highlands, but traveled some for duty. Not a great time.5 -

@Bill70sStrong Thank you for your service during the Vietnam War. My other half was Air Force but his assignments remained stateside.

3 x’s yes! An hour of strength today, good on calories with room to spare.
I don’t use food as rewards anymore either. I have gotten into the habit of treating myself better in general along this journey. I get my nails done, I splurge on the occasional massage, I go to a $12 yoga class at the good yoga studio, I shop for deals on eBay, I buy new workout gear, I buy plants for my garden, I take $20 to the antique center and buy myself something just because I love it not because I need it. Activities are fun too!
Bahahaha lol I guess I spend money 😂😂
Lol free activities might be a good idea to try since looking at this list I think I should stop spending so much money.5 -
Yes x 3 for me. Sailing Ali g sticking to macros & exercise goal.
I don’t give myself rewards anymore. My life is pretty rewarding so losing the weight will just let me continue to do the things I love. As I lose weight I will get new clothes. Weight loss is slow for me & I have waited for years for things. I now live life day by day & enjoy it as I go.9 -

Exersized-?yes
Caleries?-yes
Logged?-yes4 -
I tend to find ‘success’ is it’s own reward. I’m doing a Depth year in 2020, and not buying anything unnecessary. I already practice frequent self-care, by reading, writing, watercolour painting etc. I occasionally treat myself to a trip somewhere, or an outing with friends, but not usually as a direct reward for some perceived ‘success’ as such. I live a busy, active life, and I have the luxury of being able to do what I choose most of the time. That, in itself seems more than ample reward for my life choices so far.
20+ minutes exercise: Yes. 85 active minutes, HIIT, Yoga, walking
Under calorie goal: Yes
Tracked? Yes
1️⃣ Pass Day used

Yes x3. Exercise: 50 minutes HIIT and 36 minute walk.3

@craigo3154, hmmmm how do I reward myself for a job well done? Generally I buy a plane ticket to see my kids in CO or San Francisco or even MT. Otherwise I love to relax for 4 or 5 days doing a 1000 piece puzzle. And if I'm perfectly honest I love buying workout shoes, hiking shoes and clothes, and winter wear.

Exercise: Yes my Physical Therapist worked me hard today for 55 minutes. I can't do any laying down stuff so he had me doing all sorts of step-ups, squats, dead lifts and side to side walks with a heavy band.
Calories: Yes easily under by about 300 calories
Tracked: Yes but once again I pre-logged to get my calories in but didn't actually eat them all. Vertigo messes with your appetite but I try to eat enough...............6 -
I tracked and my exercise was knee pt really hard work didn’t think I lacked so much flexibility4
-
Exercise: Y 13K steps including 5 treadmill miles at the Y this morning mostly running. 60 minutes
Calories:Y 1594/1800+ 677 exercise calories
Tracked:Y
I don’t play the reward game with gifts, experiences, food treats etc......that stuff doesn’t motivate me. The reward from the exercise and disciplined eating will hopefully be feeling better and good health.4 -
Back on track today!
Exercise: Yes, and I didn’t even hurl
Calories: Yep
Logging: Yep, GB&U4 -

Yes x3. More shovelling. And just finished a really great stretching video. Not sure how I reward myself... sometimes it’s dark chocolate. Sometimes it’s just setting aside to do lists and enjoying a coffee and book on the couch with a fuzzy blanket (or at least that’s my wintertime reward!)3

Exercised?: Yes
Calories?: Yes
Tracked?: Yes
Goal for today as always is to keep track of what I ate and exercise. I am also trying to control what I eat and how much of the sweets, salty high caloric foods that I eat. It is kind of hard right now but, I am working hard to get my eating habits under control. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.3 -
Exercise: yes. It included snow shoveling.
Calories within goal: yes
Tracked: yes
Response: I used to reward only with food. Now I’m using a small sugar belly as my motivation. Plus, hopefully lower cholesterol.3 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Gym workout - 10 minutes on the treadmill (MFP totally deleted it twice so I've given up logging it), 15 minutes on the recumbent bike, and 20 minutes on the circuit
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes3 -
Exercise? Yeah. 30 minutes on the treadmill. Core exercises. 8.5k steps. Cleaning.
Within my calorie goal? Absolutely.
Tracked everything? Of course.
I'm better at chastising myself than rewarding myself!2 -
Monday, 1/13/20
Tracking: Yes
Calories: under
Exercise: Yes
Water - ounces - 68
Goals/Day/Comments: 2 plus hours golf 9 holes walking, 10 minute walk each way to golf course. I have increased weight while lifting and am finding that I need to scale back the days of strenuous activity. Going to try this schedule - HIIT strength upper body, HIIT strength lower body, HIIT cardio, REST day.
How do I reward myself? Coming off meds for high cholesterol and blood pressure will be reward enough. I don’t mind getting older, I just want to remain active and be healthy.4 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? YES (hour at gym)
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? YES
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? YES
Many times I feel like rewarding myself with food, but that ends up being my problem. I'm thinking when I hit certain weight goals to reward myself with purchasing a book I've been wanting or something like that.4
