1/18-WAH 5 Fat Burning Miles + 70 miles shoveling heavy wet snow! :grumble:=67.0 miles

I am counting the snow shoveling today as strength training because my abs and shoulders got a work out. We got about 5 inches of heavy wet snow and then sleet in mid-Michigan making the snow even heavier. Now, why didn't my husband just blow it you ask????? Because he "forgot" our blower has a broken belt so it does not work right now! Color him :blushing: ! He is home, but is not allowed to shovel because he is awaiting hernia surgery! Comedy of errors for me, but a great workout none-the less! Those of you in the track of this storm-enjoy! :drinker:

    Walk Strong Everyone!

I've decided that my new year will begin in February. The ick that I started the year with has stalled into a nice cold. I'm still coughing when I move to much so getting any exercise. I am down about 2 pounds because sickness is the best weight loss program. ;)

All you keep walking and I'll catch up with you next month. 😁

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I had something similar this past week. I am trying to get exercise but I go into coughing fits if I try to do too much. Hope you are feeling great soon!

Hi all. I'm new here in this group within the last couple of weeks. I have felt inspired reading your goals for the month. I fell off track with exercise and logging over the past few months (and gained weight because of it ...grrr) so my overall goal when the new year started was to log food accurately everyday and get back to exercise. I've done pretty well except when I was down sick. Hoping to be back to the weight I should be by May. I've lost 7 pounds so far once I got back to doing what I know I need to do.

I've been trying to get at least 6 workouts a week including 3 strength training workouts. I pulled my walk at home dvd's out. Haven't used them in years but the weather here is awful. I enjoyed getting re-acquainted with them and I rotate the ones I have in along with other workouts I have. I just ordered a few new ones too and will try those next week.

Looking forward to closing this month out strong and heading into a great February!

@zichab I hope you were able to safely shovel your way out of all that snow! I'm super jealous, we have yet to have any snow! I do remember how sore you can get from shoveling, so it is good strength training and I'm sure that's a nice calorie burn, too!

@Deeder522 Hope you are feeling better girl! :flowerforyou:

Welcome to the group @anname9203! Let us know which DVDs you are using, we all find it interesting to see what each other is doing and sometimes it reminds us to try one of the workouts we haven't done in a while!

Thank you! I've only got a few of the dvd's. I think a lot of her workouts that I had were pre-dvd. Haha. These are the ones I have and have done recently:

    Walk Slim 3 Miles Fast
    Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles
    3 Mile Weight Loss Walk
Walk & Firm with Interval Training
    4 Mile Power Walk
    5 Mile Fat Burning Walk

Two new ones (to me) I haven't had a chance to try yet:

    5 Boosted Miles
Walk Away the Pounds Express Super Challenge (4 Mile)

I really like the 5 mile fat burning. I burned a ton of calories with that one and the 4 mile power walk was pretty good also although the whole slowing down and then speeding up was very different.

I try to do the ones where I can burn a lot of calories in a reasonable amount of time so tend to go to the 4 and 5 mile ones and ones with interval training. Are there any others you all would recommend that would fit this description?

    Hi Anname,

The Miracle Miles workouts do have intervals, but... they also have a 2 to 3 minutes of a complete stop to grab your band and do some arm and leg work. That's the part I don't like about this set, other than that it's great. I think of the 5 dvd's in this set, the 1st one has one complete walking mile. The aerobic parts are great and you get a really good workout.

Seems like the Belly Blasting walk has intervals too.

5 Boosted Miles and the 4 mile Super Challenge are good workouts. The 4 Mile Super Challenge is one of my favs. There aren't any intervals in it, but by mile 3, you are certainly getting some serious burnage. ;)

Oh and my first video was Basic Stepping With Walk Aerobics. Made in the 80's!

Well, between the snow and the VA appointments for my DH, I got behind on my workouts and a pound had the NERVE to show up!!!! :grumble: My classes are caught up and my DH has finished appointments for now, so back to my workouts I go. I need to teach that pound a severe lesson!!!! :+1: I know I will have some non-workout days this month between grading and getting my DH back in good shape, but I am sticking to the goal except those strength workouts will be when I feel like it!

@VeggieGirlforLife- I actually LOVE LOVE LOVE the snow and cold to be honest. Shoveling is not a big chore for me, although I will honestly say I prefer blowing it. I know that is very weird as most people are heading south, but there are too many bugs down there for me. Love snow ... hate bugs!!! :explode:

@anname9203- In the Just Walk Series, both Walk to the Hits: Party Songs & Radio Remixes are interval workouts. They are 3 miles though so you might want them on a day when you do not have a lot of time, but want want to do a HITT workout.

@AnnofB & @Deeder522 - It is great to see both of you even though you are sitting out the challenge this month.

    Walk Strong Everyone!

Great, thanks so much! I'll check those out! I try to do longer workouts on weekends and days I work from home but could use a few for those days when I don't have a lot of time because I have to commute to the office.

I am here physically just not mentally. My dear sweet mother in law passed away over night. It has been a long Jan. for us. My hubby is on his way to SD with his sister for the funeral. Eating has been all over the place because of emotional eating. I HAVE TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL. I know I have gained 10 to 15 lbs back. I want them gone. Love you all for the support you give me.

@anname9203 Here are another couple of workouts that have interval training that I didn't see mentioned yet: The Big Burn - 2 Miles of Intervals and 5K With a Twist. Those are good for when you need something quicker than a 5 mile, but still want to burn calories.

As far as just burning calories, the one you mentioned, 5 Fat Burning Miles, is the best calorie burn. I can also get a decent one with Walk Slim 5 Really Big Miles, but that one is even longer time wise and also includes strength. A shorter one with a good calorie burn without really having intervals is 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk.

Don't forget all the videos with strength training are important, too, not just walking for straight calorie burns! I have to remind myself about that all the time!
