Yesterday's posts focused on emotions. It is overly simplistic to have someone pat you on the back and say, "Chin up!! It's not so bad! Get over it!"
One of the great things about sharing is that most often there are others who are struggling too. Too often we feel like everyone else must have it together.
None of us have it all together. On the other hand, together we can share each other's struggle.

@RangerRickL thank you for bringing some memories of my dad. He used to say, "there is no such word as can't.". Oh, how I disliked that saying as a child, but realize they were words of wisdom.4

Exercised: Yes (5km walk in 38 mins - hills)
Tracked: Yes
Budget: Yes
Walk after dinner. Emotionally up and down day.
@RangerRickL. The one thing I love about UAC is the support. This community keeps me going when, at times, I feel I cannot.
UAC taught me the key to healthy habits that keep my physical health when all else falls apart. The community helps when I emotionally falter.I know I am going through a lot a the moment with my daughter and myself. In fact today I finally informed my work that I am being treated for clinical depression (They were surprising supportive and understanding. It was a conversation I was dreading as I know my work standard has been slipping lately. They are happy to make allowances for me, I just need to keep them in the loop as to what I can and can not cope with. They will give me as much time off as I require, when I require it. Even writing this I am almost in tears).
My daughter will probably not have school this calendar year (beyond the specialist program she is in that ends in 2 weeks). Her condition has put the family under extra stress and it's me who's broken first.13 -
Oh @craigo3154 we all have so much love and respect for you! And you've not broken. You're going through a tough time. It will get better. Talking of wise words passed onto us, my Nan passed down "life's not fair" and my grandad, "life's hard" and my mum, "this too shall pass". There are highs with the lows and lows with the highs.
@RangerRickL 's starter makes me think of something that comes up a lot in the world of education where I reside, of a fixed mindset vs a growth mindset. I think I came into my weight loss journey with a fixed mindset and have shifted it to a growth mindset. Looking at the example of the attitude to success of others - I'll confess that I had a defeatist attitude and thought that the winner's circle was impossible for me. I remember thinking that the likes of @craigo3154 (and more recently the amazing @TerriRichardson112) were made of different stuff. And then people are brave and share their story and we all learn. Craig - you're amazing and inspiring and better times are ahead for you and your family.7 -

...
"broken" was the expedient word in my post. Maybe could be replaced with "stumbled" or "faltered". I've been taught to think of my state as "Kintsugi" in progress.
I so appreciate you and the UAC community. We learn from each other.
Health management is as much a mental battle as a physical one. The UAC philosophy of honesty, friendship, community and entrenching healthy habits are paramount to ongoing health.
Unless one is honest with oneself and others, progress cannot be made. This for most is the hardest lesson to learn (was for me).
I strongly encourage people to try new things; review history so they can find out what works and what didn't; learn from setbacks; work on known weaknesses and celebrate both their own and others successes.
My favourite day is still NSV (non-scale victory) day. I love hearing where others have succeeded.
Last thought is from something framed and hanging on my wall (I don't read it enough). It's the 4 way test from Rotary (I used to be a member of Rotary many years ago).THE 4 WAY TEST
of the things we think, say or do.
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
I find this is relevant to UAC, work, community and life in general.

@RangerRickL thank you for bringing some memories of my dad. He used to say, "there is no such word as can't.". Oh, how I disliked that saying as a child, but realize they were words of wisdom.
A saying from my past:Somebody said that that it couldn't be done, but he with a chuckle replied.
"I won't be one to say it is so until I can give it a try."
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin. If he had a worry, he hid it.
Started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done.
.... and he did it.6 -
@RangerRickL Thank you for yesterday's great post about emotional eating and today's related post about sharing struggles.
A success for me this morning: I posted recently that I felt pressured to eat two lunches by an obese friend who always wants to eat in restaurants. It was supposed to be for my birthday and came without planning after I'd already eaten.
This morning she called to ask about eating out for breakfast. I had my speech ready and threw in phrases like how fun it is to eat that food, but it isn't good for my health and I have to stop it. I offered to have coffee with her in a local coffee shop where I won't feel obligated to buy a meal -- and she agreed (she has no choice).
I thought about asking her to go for a walk, but she needs knee replacement surgery.
We'll see how it goes. I appreciate the support on here that many UAC members gave me. You've helped me to find my backbone. And yes, it was a little scary to say no.10 -
@craigo3154 I'm so sorry you and your family are going through such a tough time. I admire your intelligence and honesty. You're doing everything right, communicating well with your workplace and medical team.
I absolutely agree with you about exercise. It's so good for our bodies and spirits. I live across the road from a national park (it's in my profile photo) and find walking there restores my spirit. We all appreciate you here and hold you in our hearts.
@am_change Thanks for your insightful post with the chart with two paths. I agree about the growth mindset with its positive point of view. Good reminder for us all.7 -
Wow O, thanks @am_change, @craigo3154, @RangerRickL, @SuziQ113 and @Hollis100
I now understand why I missed this group these pass few days I was in a conference. This is my virtual supportive family.
This is the reason this group is successful.6 -

I tried to move a bit of furniture around. It backfired. I'd measured the space but due to the angle and a radiator it just didn't fit. Then a bookcase I'd moved broke and it was a 2 man job to fix it. My dad doesn't live too far away and he's mostly retired these days so he came to my rescue. Anyway - calories burnt moving stuff around only to move it back again grrr annoying!8 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Put my best foot forward however, my system has issues with dizziness and motion so I didn’t get full 20 minutes. With the small amount of walking I did get and maybe 5 minutes true exercises, I’m considering it half done. Doing my best.... not a total success, but no fail either since I tried!

10th March:
Exercise: Yes. 45 minute Gym class and some 45 minutes walking. The Gym class is called 'Gym doux', gentle gym, but it's pretty tough. I like it a lot because what we do is all body stuff and only a few positions put unduly stress on my bad leg.
Calories: Yes, nicely under budget, even with a small glass of white wine at a Cafe Theatre where one of my friends performed.
Tracking: Yes, logged everything.
Reading everyone's posts this month has given me a lot of food for thought. (Better than actual food!)10 -
I’m on a streak of pass days because I’m not tracking. My eating habits haven’t changed so I’m good with calories. I also had three rest days to recover a pulled muscle in my neck. It’s feeling good now!
I haven’t been checking in but I do plan on reading the last week of posts.
This month I’m going to put my trust that the year+ of doing this challenge has truly created some good habits. Lol I just need a break from logging but I’m still going to hangout here and lurk.
