Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes?
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?

What are your best exercise ideas that do not require a gym?
Since the governmental shutdown/lockdown/stay-at-home/physical distancing regime began, we have all been trying to learn new skills and coping tools.
I moved myself out of my 20 person law firm near Chicago and drove to Arizona. Since arriving here, I've replaced my gym based workout with a hiking focused workout.
What about you? What are you best ideas to share?
Thanks, Rick10 -

@RangerRickL. Almost as if you wrote this for me
The two I use extensively are:- Walking (hiking)
- Bodyweight exercises
Walking does not put impact on the knees. It is far less injury prone than jogging or running. If you "speed walk" you burn more calories than jogging without the joint stress.
Walking can be done "almost" anywhere, needs no special clothes, no special shoes.
Bodyweight exercises only require you and an open space of maybe 4ft x 8ft, possibly a normal chair or a door frame. Things found in most houses . I can do most of mine in an average hotel room.
Ones I mainly use are: push-ups, crunches, planks, dips, lunges, squats, door frame pulls.
There are ton of resources on the internet on bodyweight exercises and how to do them properly.
Yet again, I could use these when travelling. But they are equally suited to home.
I have not been to a gym in over 10 years, but maintain good weight, proportions and overall strength using these. Also my work is sedentary (IT specialist), so my work gives me no on the job exercise.
Check in later tonight.12 -
I have a limited range of possibilities. My right leg was really damaged in a car crash 20 years ago and, while I can walk for miles, mostly on the flat, the arthritis in the knee prevents me from putting too much pressure on it, run, jog or do too many stairs or strenuous exercises. My other leg is a bit better, but doesn't like too much strain either. Walking and swimming were ideal, also I'd found movement classes that worked for me. I'm now limited to a 60-minute walk within one kilometer radius, to include shopping. I've got an ancient television and a DVD player, also one DVD with low impact aerobics, so I do that. My laptop has a small screen and I cannot really see how to do downloaded exercises. I've started to do a few sit-ups every morning. I've also found a 5-minute Yoga/ stretching podcast. I should be able to remember the moves!13

If someone in your family could mail you a cable ... you could use your tv as your "monitor" for your laptop through your DVD player, like I do for my Wii (I will need to get back to you with a picture later - but such things DO exist that can plug via usb or HTMI port into the laptop end and what-ever port in the DVD player, including the old VGA type yellow / white / red three ender. Your kids (or others here) would be able to diagnose specifics better than I could.... if they knew the model of the laptop and the model of the DVD player .... )

I have my Wii and an "entertainment-dedicated" laptop hooked up to my livingroom tv. (we stopped cable some time ago, and now mostly use Netflix or other tv series / movie / documentary streaming services). So I have a plenty-big sized view of youtube "treadmill / elliptical / biking virtual training trails" to watch-while-I-walk (on my rebounder mini-tramploline to reduce the impact). I consider it a WONDERFUL way to see sooo many other parts of the world I haven't got to "in person" yet ... and also revisit some (like the streets of London UK) that I have a year or two ago.
Here's a parasailing one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaGN4A6Wqh8https://youtube.com/watch?v=xaGN4A6Wqh8
This chap has posted many amazing ones from around France.
Or I can Listen-while-I-walk to audio books etc. And come warmer weather, I can take the rebounder out to the back porch, or my hula-hoop.9 -
Yes times three. 2 passes left.10

Pass day 1. I'm taking a much needed rest day. I enjoyed relaxing today. My arms and legs have been aching from doing spring cleanup of my property all week.
Good post @craigo3154 I agree with you about walking -- I injured myself twice in the past year from running, but have never injured myself from walking. I didn't know that about speed walking and calories vs jogging.
I really enjoy walking. There's something deeply satisfying about knowing I can get somewhere on my own two feet, or discovering what lies at the end of a road or across a beautiful old city bridge.
My other "best exercise" is doing my own life maintenance tasks instead of paying somebody else. That includes trimming shrubbery and raking leaves and carrying mildly heavy things.9 -

I am joining late again this month. I am working towards maintaining balance in my life as much as can be possible.
In regard to exercise, I mostly walk though I should do more beyond walking. I am finding that I am able to walk with more flexibility since I am working from home which is nice. If it is sunny in the middle of the afternoon, I take a break and walk outside and get a little sunshine.

Monday, 4/13
Tracking: Yes
Calories: under
Exercise: Yes, strength complexes - 30 min.
I partly retired last September and began to get active again. My immune system is shot so I avoid gyms. The kids are all out of the house so I turned one of their bedrooms into a “gym”. In it - old TV that I hook my iPad to, hand weights, exercise bike. When the weather gets warmer I will kayak. I like to go up to the white mountains in New Hampshire and hike late spring through mid fall but am nervous there might be too many people on the trails.
Pass days to date - 17 -
Yes x3.
I enjoy walking and biking. Today the kids and I only lasted 15 minutes outside, it was cold! So I resorted to another at-home activity - YouTube videos. I’ve used fitness blender a lot. Today was a HIIT video from another channel. I really love weight lifting so I’ve collected a lot of free weights over the years. Even built my own squat rack. No need for a gym fees when I’ve got my own, down in my dungeon basement in between the laundry and the furnace! Though I do miss swimming laps at the leisure Center’s pool.6 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, well over an hour walking on the rebounder in front of the tv ("walked around Montpellier; through most of a tv episode, and also spent time in my exergame)
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes - over 90 fit-bit calories left uneaten despite upping my calorie limit a bit more as part of my stabilization plan
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes

My exercise routine consists most days of a walk up and down our long driveway and to the main road. As I'm going back it is a steep
up hill incline so I can really feel it by the time I get back. Usually takes close to 20 minutes. I sometimes continue walking around the house and up and down basement steps and the steps to my front door. Usually I spent 30 to 40 minutes. Nice days I add gardening and yardwork. If it's raining I will put music on set the timer and see how fast I can get work inside done.
Keeps me active during isolation. So glad I'm not in cramped quarters. That would be hard.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? 46 minutes strength this morning, 1.5 mile walk in the afternoon
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes and under
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yep!6 -
yes x's 3
I've found that I enjoy logging into a fitness class via Zoom conferencing to workout with some people I've known for years. The studio also has workouts posted in dropbox - so that is there when I want to do a little more. Something about knowing the instructor helps. I am walking with my kids more. I hope to start doing more bodyweight exercises and yoga. I really don't find those to be fun...but know I need to stay flexibility. As an old instructor told me once..."you are only as young as your spine is flexible...". Anywho - hoping to go to hike at a "waterfall" park not too far from here when they open the gates again. Same for another state park not too far from her. When I do yard work - it's definitely a workout. We just pulled out the wii...and knect. Hoping to draw up a workout "fun" plan for teen and I. He's bored...and needs a challenge...so hoping this will help.
paragliding seems fun...but I think I would run into a cliff or such... ;D Looks lovely....
Hiking in AZ is supposed to be wonderful Rick. Have friends out there.

13th April
Exercise: Yes, 40 minute walk. Had to use 20 minutes of my permitted hour in the shop. Needed toilet paper! I hadn't stocked up! Shop only had packs of 12, so I'll be OK for a bit.
Calories: Yes, stayed under. Made a big slow cooker batch of paprika chicken.
Tracking: Yes, logged everything.
President Macron told us last night we'll be confined until 11th May, another month. Oh well, I'll get my cardigan finished and my Beethoven sonatas should be good enough to be played in the station - French Railways have put pianos in all big city stations and it's one of my ambitions to play on one of them. Terrifying!
So grateful for your continuing presence and contributions. I find it immensely helpful, both for my physical and my mental health.7 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, You Tube videos and Leslie Sansone
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
For exercise I got a Fitbit in Feb and it's kept me moving like crazy! I started doing small things like instead of sitting on the couch drinking coffee going online I'd stand at the counter and use my laptop with music on dancing/walking in place. Since the gym closed I've been exploring You Tube videos, from walking videos to dance (from hip hop to belly dancing to Bollywood), strength training, yoga, pilates, and foam rolling. I wasn't able to get my hands on higher weights before they sold out everywhere but have light weights, resistance bands, a foam roller, exercise ball, and just received mini-resistance bands. I have a recumbent bike but have been having fun trying new things. If anyone needs some recommendations on videos let me know, I have over 100 now on my playlist and do at least one new video a day so they've been racking up.5 -

Pass #4 so I'm out... wha wha wha....
Struggling with calorie budget especially after sweet birthday treats, need to detox from sugar because it increases my appetite. I'm taking BMcC9's goal for me to have less than March passes of 9 to keep training for winner's circle. Thank you again BMcC9 for wiping mud off my face from big disgrace (yes, song reference). I'm still well within normal bmi on Asian American bmi chart.
I do well with exercise so uac helped me get that healthy habit down pat. My favorite lockdown exercise is virtually touring any place in the world through YouTube while walking or jogging in place. Second and third place is stretching for stress relief and resistance training for muscle building.5 -
I am grateful for everyone's sharing. Walking seems to be our mutually agreeable go to exercise.
And today:
Exercise: 90+ minutes of hiking. I chose to do a steep climb so that I would have some anaerobic moments. It worked
Calories: under my limit
