We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday- misterhub (Greg)
Tuesday- whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday- Al_Howard (Al)
Thursday- imastar2 (Derrick)
Friday- 88olds (George)

Today's Topic: Researching Weight Management Methods and General Questions.

1.What resources do you generally access to get your information for weight management etc;? Including apps, websites, google, yahoo?

2.Do you still use printed books/materials?
what's your trust level in these resources as far as implementing your research.

    1. Since the invent of the internet I've pretty much used this resource as my research. Usually however I cross reference the sources as best as I can and as much as possible without getting bogged down too much in cyber space. I believe there is a lot of info available for just about any subject out there but especially weight control. It is amazing to me however the varied amounts of opinions depending who the author might be. I know with my recent pacemaker and heart surgeries I've been able to get invaluable information from the web/net. Mostly in the form of explanations rather than advice.

I generally take the advice from one of the 3 professionals I see on a pretty consistent basis. Doctors, Nutritionist (cerified RD), and a registered therapist. These professionals assist me with my weight management all in their separate professions. I really do try to take action on their advice in their different professions. I also find that they differ in their opinions but as far as actual weight management is concerned I put the most emphasis in my nutritionist reccomendations as far as weight management is concerned simply because that's her specialty and lifestyle work and education.

    2. I have mostly moved away from printed material/books etc; but when available I do pick up flyers/pamphlets and read through them when they pass in front of me or are available through various sources.

I do however 95% of the time use printed books for personal growth, positive attitude and of course for me while I have a Bible app I still use my Bible.

One of the things I liked about WW when I started was the stuff it allowed me to ignore. There’s a lot of disinformation out there. I was disturbed by how much had found its way into my head. A lot of it from advertising.

So initially I decided if it didn’t come from WW or my Dr, I would do my best to tune it out. I read a lot on the WW website Science Center.

Now I work pretty hard just avoiding clickbait. I try to limit anything to do with health to the National Institute of Health and the Mayo Clinic. When looking at anything else involving reference to this or that latest study, I try to get to the source. The popular media version of scientific papers frequently misstate the work.
