I know it has become a meme but has anyone else gained some weight during lock down? I'm back to work this week so I'm trying to get back on track, low carb works for me as well as cutting out all alcohol. I'm feeling bad that all my work clothes are feeling so tight!!!

nope no weight gain and i actually lost some inches off the stubborn belly area since. i decided to used the lockdown early on to make the jump from my low carb (100 carbs) diet to a permanent 20netcarbs keto lifestyle. glad i did cause it definitely stopped me from munching on the carb goodies still in our house for the hubby.2

Summer is always hard for me, it’s so hot here in the valley that walking and exercising outdoors is almost impossible, I feel like summer started early this year with the city lockdown and stay home order. I definitely have gained and it’s due to a lack of movement as well as food choices. It’s difficult to meal plan when your not sure what foods will be available when you pickup your order. I’m trying to stay below 50 mg of carbs, I do pretty good at that level. Snacking has returned but not napping so there is still balance. I was able to shift my sleeping schedule during this quarantine so now I get better sleep and I’m not up at night eating and watching tv, which honestly, was one of my favorite things to do, lol I just need to find another way to wind down in the evenings, so far so good, it’s not a race so I can spend the rest of my life learning how to feed my self correctly and maybe one day I will choose to put myself first 😉0

Oh yeah. I spent the first 3 weeks on my couch bingeing on tv and every kind of carb I could find, I suppose as a way to make myself feel better. I've managed to put back 20 lbs of the 28 I lost last year on keto, in about 3 months. Pretty sure the alcohol was a factor for me as well...sigh.
Good news is I'm back on track, but unfortunately until I figure out how to fix this new pain in my left leg (feels like a pinched nerve, am doing physio, it helps but seems very slow going), I can't hike the hills near my office like I did last spring and summer, which was how I lost the weight.
I don't know if the keto lifestyle impairs one's ability to ever enjoy a carb again, but it sure felt like it...but full disclosure, I was realllllly over-doing things.
That said, I'm back on for the last week, and already feeling better in most ways except the leg thing. I know my appetite will come in line again soon, which was the biggest factor enabling me to lose the weight last year...not nearly as hungry and distracted by food, the next meal, etc. with this WOE.
Good luck to you! I'm very motivated to shed pounds, given the new and improved risk factors of being overweight we're contending with these days.4 -
No weight gain, but I'd bet I gained inches. My work load went UP during the early days of the pandemic, and my workouts suffered. I have my schedule under control now.5

My range is from 197 to 213 based on the last 4-5 years. A month ago I was hitting 223 but have backed out about 5 pounds so I can fasten my pants without passing out. Now I am playing catch up on outside work like working with the tractor, pressure washing the green house back into a white house, etc. I am back to not eating 5 hours before I go to bed as well and that still works for me.5

Yes, I gained 7 lbs...but coronavirus coincided with the start of a bulking program for me anyway, so that only 1-2 lbs more than I usually gain during a bulk...I should end June back to where I started if all goes according to plan!0

Yes! It started with lots of shelf-stable food like pasta, rice, and potatoes. That was followed by frantic baking, plenty of wine, gallons of sweetened hot tea and a lot of sitting on my tush. Throw in a bought of depression due to being laid off and it's getting bad.
It might have started as a joke- only wearing sweatpants- but it's become my truth. Lots of my regular pants are tough to zip, even my "fat" pants.
It's time to quit blaming my bad habits on the pandemic so I'm back on keto after quite a bit of success with it in the past. It's time to take responsibility and look forward to a more active summer.6 -
Much to my disgust I put on 12 lbs because I started baking again for my husband but, of course, the aroma of flapjacks tempted me to indulge, so that was the start of the carb monster becoming part of my life again. Beautiful clothes which fitted last summer are waiting on me losing that 12 lbs.
I began on Monday to get back on the wagon. Therefore 20 grams of carbS once again, which has helped me to jettison 2lbs so only 10 to go, which I intend to lose by August. I gain very very quickly but lose very very slowly. Onward And downward I will go until I reach my destination. I will just do it!!5 -
Those of you who'd like a little accountability, I run monthly challenges that you can pretty much tailor to fit whatever your goals are. You can join any time during the month.
I might have gained a couple pounds during all this crap due to food availability issues, mainly lack of protein for awhile which I gave to my kids while I ate more carby staple foods (beans, rice, and etc). But now that's back to normal. I don't really weigh much. I just go back into weightloss protocol and patiently wait until clothes are fitting how I prefer again.7 -
I am afraid to weigh myself. All business travel has ceased for my hubby and older adult child is working from our house. While a stable income and having him home is great, I have been spending an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen, cooking up a lot of bean dishes. Add in some rice and well, there goes the low carb diet. Intake of wine has been well beyond my norm. Throw in a Papa John's pizza at least twice a month. Oy vey.

We have had a difficult few months - so should not be too critical of ourselves but I agree that is it good to take stock and make better plans for the future now.
(It is all too easy to let the trials of lockdown and the fear of this virus create even worse health problems. Covid-19 MIGHT be a hazard to any one of us... but we know that weight-gain WILL be. )
Baconslave - you are doing a great thing! Challenges work really well as distractions and can have such a positive long-term effect.3 -
yes! I have gained and am also on steroids...so ready to drop some pounds!1

I gained weight after surgery this year on my foot in January. But mostly I gained weight from eating a full carby diet again. I also used covid as an excuse to eat even more carbs, because there was no meat in the stores and I thought need to stock up on dried foods like rice and beans. I don't feel good anymore and I'm overweight again. I was healthier and happier when was eating low carb. I want to go back to eating low carb but its tough because at this point I'm addicted to carbs again. There are also some foods that have carbs that I like that are healthy and thats another point of struggle for me. For example I like: apples, oranges, bananas, pineapple, lentils, hummus and oats.4

Yes. My weight was up and down a bit in January but depending on when you count from, I've gained 12-16 lbs. (I peaked a week ago, have tightened up logging again and have lost 3 lbs so far.) I've had a lot of ups and downs over the past 3 years but my overall trajectory has been up; gained about 22 lbs overall. Now getting to the top of the "normal" weight range and running out of pants that fit (after having already gradually bought up 1 size in the past few years; not will have to go up a second size unless I manage to reverse this trend!).4

My activity has absolutely plummeted. When I first transitioned to working from home, we still had a couple feet of snow.... Summer is now here in all its glory, but there is a lot of rain this year and my enthusiasm is just non-existent. Discovered that food prepping is still key for me, even being home all day. I am thankful that availability really wasn't an issue where I live. For the most part, I was still eating ok during the day, but my night time snacking went through the roof, my alcohol consumption increased (zoom meets instead of get togethers so didn't have to drive and I also jokingly said for awhile that it was how I differentiated my weekends from work days), not wearing "real" pants on a daily basis and lack of activity has made for a bad combination. Perfect Storm! Tried to put on some of my dress pants for a funeral on Saturday. Horrible wake up call indeed.5

Yep, so I am on an Atkins fat fast starting today, aiming to get into ketosis and to start logging again! I quit the daily MFP habit on Jan 1, and now regret that I did. Gained 4 kilos or so, esp. since March working from home. Binged on peanut butter and nuts, so now those are off the table. Here's hoping it works.2

Yes. I have gained. The lock down started right after I'd had a month of real progress, and I regressed all that plus more. I feel like I'm settling to a better pattern this month, trying to remember all the benefits of low carb living. Next month...I'll hope to address the poundage and exercise.
I've been struggling with this for a long time now...a couple years...and feel Iike the time is now.3 -
Yes, gained 40 pounds from March-July; that's why I'm back here. Have lost 6 already. Can't wait to have loose clothes again.
And I'm participating in @baconslave 's challenge for accountability. Having a trouble avoiding snacking.5 -
Yes, have gained 16 pounds. I had just gotten under 200 pounds when all of this hit. Back to tracking - 3 days in a row now.7
-
I haven't gained but haven't lost any either. I've been eating really healthy and started relaxed carnivore the last few days.0
-
I'm going to go against the grain here - I have lost 40+ since mid-April (we won't discuss how much I gained going into that point 😢).4
-
Yes I have gained 28lbs. Gutted. Could not get back in the swing of losing weight till I remembered low carb worked so well for me before so I’m back! Need to learn everything from scratch!!3
-
Yes, I did. A pretty serious depression hit me and with all this coronavirus stuff, we began eating out again to support local businesses. Think local ice cream shop, local donut shop, etc. ALL the carbs. Also had more time to cook and bake, so that was a problem as well. I did get more physical activity in than I normally do by far. It felt incredible to be outside working in the yard and garden every single day that it wasn't pouring rain. And even sometimes in the rain. We went for lots of trail walks as well.
Unfortunately, I have been very low carb/keto since early July now, but have lost very little weight. I have never had this happen before. For the first two weeks, I normally lose weight very rapidly, then it normally slows a little, but continues to drop steadily. This time, I lost no weight the first two weeks at all. Then it dropped several pounds in a short time and now I have gone three weeks with no weight loss. I am so frustrated by this. I am doing everything I know to do that has always worked before. I weigh everything that goes into my mouth and log it. I drink zero alcohol. I do not eat back exercise calories. I am definitely in a calorie deficit, I am under 50 net carbs per day, exercising most days of the week. I am also not losing inches. If I were, that would be different. So, not only am I not losing scale weight, I'm not losing size either. About to give up. Seriously, why struggle so hard for no results? The only thing left that I know of is stress. Maybe my cortisol is very high. I don't know. I just wish the scale would move down or inches would start coming off. Very de-motivating.4 -
I gained about 7 pounds but have got it off. I decided to eat clean and took 1 day a month and had some junk food but only 1 day and it worked.2
-
@sljohnson1207 I was in the same situation. I started "clean fasting" morning and afternoon = OMAD. Not adding any cream or milk in my coffee was hard, but it is working, lost a few kilos I gained since the spring! water and black coffee/tea only in the intermittent fasting window seems to be key. Need to keep at it though or it will all come back, I am sure.2
-
Struggling with motivation and consistency. This past month I feel I slipped the most. I really need to make addressing this a priority, before even more creeping poundage settles in. I'm guessing I've gained about 20 pounds since March 18. I've basically been by myself, inside most of the time. It gets old.
I joined the Sept challenge and I'm just focusing on being more active this month.4 -
@sljohnson I've had the same problem recently. I started Intermittent Fasting almost a month ago (also read The Diet Myth and have been incorporating some principles and recommendations from there). This time I did lose about 6 lbs pretty quickly but then bounced back up and it took 3 weeks to finally lose another 0.4 lbs. My body holds on to weight so hard! I have also suspected increased cortisol as a factor.2
-
I gained during our "lockdown" months which were more March Apr May. June got better and have stayed the same since then.....but still need to lose my gained weight. All in all I would like to lose 15 lbs. Its just hard to get focused.

Yep gained close to 30lbs starting to take losing it seriously.2
-
I should add that my activity has been good. I run, bike, swim and do strength workouts. Its just the food and WINE!2
