We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday- misterhub (Greg)
Tuesday- whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday-MASSRUNNER (Frank)
Thursday- beachwoman2006 (Cindy)
Friday- imastar2 (Derrick)
Today's topic: Discouragement, Feeling down, Got the Doldrums. Whatever could be the cause and there are many could effect weight management.
What's Your Antedote.

Somehow find a distraction. Bury myself in a good positive or spiritual uplifting book. Work on a different fun project. Get out of the routine rut ie; take a walk, read a book, watch a good uplifting movie, get into something that's positive. By all means get away from the news or headlines there's plenty there to depress anybody. Do something that out of the ordinary for me.
Just break free from whatever is bothering me. It's not necessarily enough to think happy positive thoughts I usually need to find a diversion. The mind is an awesome place to hang out but it can also be a dangerous place to be when in the doldrums. I don't believe one should give in to any of the negative thoughts. They surely are poison to your attitude. I've read and have tried it that a person can't have two thoughts at the same time. No way to have a negative (sad) and a positive (happy) thought both at the same time.
So for today and forward my goal is to think positive, happy, constructive thoughts. I usually do try to focus on this but sometimes the door is left open and the wrong thoughts creep in. Can I say move on?0 -
Change of scenery is always good for me. I went up to Two Rivers, WI last weekend as part of National Trails Day and hiked the Point Beach State Park segment. I had great weather! Time out in nature always helps my mood even if the trail had many places where there was standing water that could not be avoided. My boots have almost dried out now.
This week I have been able to get to the arboretum 3 mornings to walk for about 1 hour. That has also been good.1 -
Our Summer in New England lasts somewhere between 3 hours and 3 days, so it’s good to enjoy it while it’s here.
Normally, I am stuck below deck at my oar at work on the slave ship. Exaggerating? No. My office is an enclosed section off the shop floor without windows and even a distance from the exit doors to the building. If I commute before sunrise and leave after 5, I see very little sunshine.
This year, thanks to WFH, I am at least enjoying a beautiful sunlit living room. I have even enjoyed the cloudy days. It’s like being on parole. Probably because of this, I am actually finding it easy to stay on course with the weight maintenance. In fact, I have lost weight during this pandemic, likely due to marginally better stress management.
Lastly I heard years ago that where the feet go, the mind will follow. While I no longer run, I used to be a daily runner and found it to be a tremendous tool to relieve stress. These days it’s just nice to putter around the back yard and do some weeding.2 -
Thanks I needed this.
I’m struggling with quarantine and physical ailments with walking.
Found a new channel on TV MeTV.
1960s TV shows with no news on covid, protests, riots etc.
I have never dealt with depression I-need to fight it.1 -
The thing I’ve had going is walking every day. About 4 miles every afternoon. It helps but I can’t call it fun. I find the lockdown generally lacking in fun. I just signed up for some online guitar lessons at Chicago’s Old Town School Of Folk Music. I took classes there before we moved to FL. That was fun. Gonna see if this helps.1
