Living the Lifestyle, Wednesday 06/17/2020

We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday- misterhub (Greg)
Tuesday- whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday-MASSRUNNER (Frank)
Thursday- beachwoman2006 (Cindy)
Friday- imastar2 (Derrick)

Today's topic: If I could change one thing about MY weight loss experience, it would be......

Bonus: If I could change one thing about weight loss in general.....

I wish I could figure out where that magical switch is in my brain that when flipped makes me stay focused on weight loss and sticking to my calorie budget. When I'm in "the zone", I am very successful.

I have been struggling to find that switch all year. I really want to lose this poundage around my waist but apparently my "want" isn't translating into consistent action.

ETA: this makes me recall what my mother always told me "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride"

Bonus: I wish that my first response to stress and anxiety wasn't to reach for food.

That's easy! If I could change one thing about my weight loss experience it would be a straighter line. I'm ok with the slight bouncing for reasons I can't explain, but not ok with the large blips of added weight not followed by the loss of said weight. So really, I guess what I'd like to change is for my commitment to not wain (wane?), or like Gadgetgurl said, I'd like to find the switch, and keep it turned on!

If I could change one thing about weight loss in general, I'd like to make chocolate, baked goods, and chips low calorie. And more realisticly, I'd like to not be so tempted by them that 'my give a da*n gets busted 🎶

If I could change one thing about my experience it would be that I wish I had learned the ins and outs of weight loss earlier in life.
I am not sure why it has seemed to work better for me on this round of WW, but I am glad it has.
Funny thing is that if I recall correctly, I am not doing much differently in terms of tracking, planning, eating less food in general, so I can’t be sure I have truly learned the ins and outs yet!

Bonus: if I could change one thing about weight loss in general, it would definitely be that there IS A FINISH LINE.

Today's topic: If I could change one thing about MY weight loss experience, it would be......That I'd stick with it better.

Bonus: If I could change one thing about weight loss in general....That I wouldn't have to stick with it to lose, and maintain weight loss.

Today's topic: If I could change one thing about MY weight loss experience, it would be......Nothing. Once I had the right tools I needed to lose weight, I lost weight. ("When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail")

Bonus: If I could change one thing about weight loss in general....While there are general principles for weight loss, each individual has to find what works for them or it's not going to work for them.

I have always said that if some pharma was able to come up with a pill called "motivation" I would pay them whatever they wanted! So I would like to change my search for consistent motivation, thats the key in my mind

I would have started when I was younger. Not because younger was easier but because the whole 285 lbs misery was just unnecessary. I suppose what actually happened was I did stuff when I was ready. I was 55 when I started WW and started using a food scale to crunch numbers. The 38 year old me wasn’t going to do that. But the question asks for a rewrite, that’s what I would rewrite.

I find there’s all kinds of things that people told me to try to help or direct me that I just didn’t understand at the time. Now I get the lightbulb moment- Oh, that’s what my dad was trying to tell me when I was 15. Ok. We get stuff when we’re ready I guess.

The biggest one thing if I could have changed it would be Consistency. Once started stick with it all the time and not yield to the temptation to eat because I love food.

In general if I could change one thing about weight weight loss in general would be to get around the processed foods search. So much sodium and so much chemicals in foods you can't pronounce. Hence we do our very level best to eat fresh not necessarily prepare fresh foods in advance but just all plain fresh foods. Time for it? Now that's another question for another day.

I need to find a way to better deal with stress and boredom eating. Alcohol is not a good alternative. ;-)

I had a super stressful day yesterday, but I did much better than usual in this regard.

    Bonus: A magic pill. ;-)

For my own experience, I wish I had a little more "leeway" in the calories in versus calories out equation. I'm pretty short, and so I don't get need that many calories to maintain my weight. While this may be a bit of magical thinking, it does seem that if I don't stick tightly to my plan, I don't lose weight. When I say "stick tightly," I mean just a couple of hundred calories this way or that way seem to really matter.

Similarly, 5 pounds on my body makes a big difference. I'm down ~6.5 pounds on our 10 pound challenge, and I can actually see and feel the difference in the mirror and how my clothes fit.

One thing I'd change about weight loss in general is that I would make it easier to find very low calorie options outside of the house (like outside dining, grab-and-go situations, etc.). I haven't mastered the ability to eat only a portion of an item!
