We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Today's Topic: Reflections On The Past Six Months
We're at the mid-point of the year. Has your weight/health noticeably improved/deteriorated or stayed about the same since January 1st? How do you feel about the past six months?
Note: There's a separate post for goals for the upcoming six months, so please post those there, so we can easily find it six months from now.

The last six months were really a roller-coaster in many ways. Before COVID I was just sort of chugging along doing fine. There were a few minor health concerns that I needed to get checked out, but nothing major.
Once COVID and the lock-down hit, things went a little off-track for a while. The doctor visits for the minor health issues got pushed back by a couple of months, and my weight went up as I started working from home. I probably should have anticipated that and planned for it, but I didn't.
Now, over the past few weeks, I feel like I'm getting things back on the track. All of the minor medical things have gotten taken care of, and my weight is heading in the right direction. I think our 10 pound challenge was just the kick I needed to get that part of my health back under control.
So, at the moment, I'm probably in slightly better overall condition than on January 1st right now, or at least, no worse.0 -
A rollercoaster is a great way to put my last 6 months as well. I was regrouping in Jan and Feb, getting out of the fog and getting my focus back. When covid started impacting my life (volunteer work stopped, DH working from home, minimal other interaction) I got the effits, or as I like to say "my give a d###" was busted.
In mid June, I joined Dietbets, started tracking consistently, refound goad on mfp, and found the lose #10 challenge. Since, I've been doing great! I'm focused (but not obsessed, this can become a problem for me where all I think about is food, but I think setting food, exercise and spiritual goals has helped me strike a healthy balance) and losing weight.
Love the 6 month goals idea, and posted there!0 -
Rollercoaster is a good way to describe the past 6 months. I started the year off insanely busy at work as I was doing my regular job plus the job duties of a colleague who retired in December. I thought as long as I could make it to spring break, things would get better. HAH. The pandemic was declared the Wednesday before spring break. I still went out of town as I was staying with folks who are just as crowd-adverse as I am. But each day of that trip brought more restrictions and cancellations of events, especially for the university and retirement community.
April and May were very isolating working offsite.
Then we reopened the fitness center at the retirement community at the beginning of June. Having social interaction again was very good for my mental state.
My weight has stabilized and now I need to work on getting it back down.0 -
I am 18# lighter than I was on 1/1/2020.
Totally unintentional since I made my Goal weight the previous August and thought there’s no possibility of maintaining anything lower than that. I am actually about 30# lower than my Goal weight and maintaining nicely.
Guess the most important aspect is that I feel great, not depressed, deprived or obsessed with the diet. I am however focused on portion sizes and honest tracking.1 -
Officially (WW) I'm down 6.0 since 1/3 to 6/26. Hadn't really looked at that until now. IF I stay the course I've tried to set for the rest of the year, I can be below my goal weight before year's end.1

Weight wise down 30.6 lbs since 1/3/20. A lot has gone on with me this 1st 6 months but mostly all health related. 1/22/20 pacemaker recovered 4 weeks then aortic valve replacement through with TAVR procedure complications with entry wound also a tape tear along with two pretty large hematoma(s) still dealing with wound care but were just about done hopefully get released by the end of this month Juley.two additional meds added that I had to adjust to. All that being said I've almost lost the 65 lbs I had put on into last two years. So COVID-19 hasn't effected me quite like it might have others.
I've really adapted these last 6 months and happy with my progress. These past 6 months have given me a really good foundation to move forward so I'm satisfied at this point.
