We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday - 88olds (George)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - misterhub (Greg)
Thursday - MASSRUNNER_FRANK
Friday - imastar2 (Derrick)

Today’s topic: The New Norm - A term recently being thrown around a lot.
For discussion sake involving your weight loss journey does The New Norm term take on any special meaning now or in the past?

The New Norm - A term recently being thrown around a lot.

This term (The New Norm) has resonated with me in as much as I need to continue to remind myself of my new norm. Eating like I used to years ago doesn't get it! I am constantly seeking the stability with my eating habits. It is a daily battle for sure but doesn't go without some victories. I just have to build on the positives and not dwell on the negatives. Seeking the new norm is certainly not a pie in the sky vision. It is just sticking with it as a habit. Uhmm there's a word habit! They say if we do something long enough it becomes a habit so I'm getting better but there is no utopia reached and as we say on GoaD there is no finish line.

So I will continue to seek my New Norm and push on.🙂👍

    The New Norm.
Not a fan of the word in general because most times I’ve heard it is with a resistant undertone from the speaker. They’re either whining or moaning about the amount of effort it’s taking to adjust or how unreasonable it is to ask them to change.

Regarding my personal weight loss journey at least since January 2019, I am completely astounded by what I am believing is my New Norm.

Flashback to the wee morning hours of January 2? 3? 4? 2019. Hard to pin down right now. Laying on the couch thinking this is ridiculous. I need to do something about this weight I regained. I do not intend on buying more new clothes this year to accommodate this extra girth! Knowing that in 2011 I successfully lost weight, made Goal, maintaining for about a year before extra portions and sizes not only sabotaged the losses but added an additional 20 pounds.

Reupped with WW and set my new Goal as 160 because I was completely sure that 150 wasn’t sustainable.
Lost the weight and hit 160 as my Goal. Kept going. Made 150. Kept going.
Let’s just say that my New Normal is my old High School weight - somewhere around 2-4 pounds BELOW 130.
I am astonished. And happy. And hopeful that my new eating patterns and tracking will keep me exactly here for as long as I remain on this side of the lawn.

New normal ... so glad you aren't asking us to discuss it regarding my life in the community, my volunteer positions, or my social life. I'm just so over it!

But re. weight loss, my new norm, at least for the last 8 weeks, has involved the spiritual - a.m. quiet time and p.m. gratitude, physical - arm exercise, building core strength, & moving more, and diet - limited diet coke, tracking, staying OP, eating w/in or close to an 8 hour window, increased fruits and veggies. These habits have helped me be successful in weight loss. I can totally see goal and maintenance in my future, AS LONG AS my new normal, IS my normal. Only time will tell.

New normal involves more phone time as opposed to face to face time with friends & family That's actually good because it has me making more contact with those who do not live close by, and bad because there is no physical contact with those who are (no handshakes, hugs or kisses). New normal involves short trips to state parks around our home state of virginia in our RV and no long distance trips across the USA and Canada. New normal involves less dining out and more cooking at home. It also involves more walks and less TV time as its the only out of the house entertainment available. Oh and more physical therapy exercise sessions on a daily basis to deal with some tendonitis in my hips and legs.
Not all bad not all good, the extra exercise and less dining out helps with my weight management, the lock in does not help.
