We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday - 88olds (George)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)

Today's Topic: You've Been Elected!!

You were just elected to a new national office called Secretary of Health & Fitness.

You magically have an unlimited budget. What will you do for the country to improve the health and fitness of the nation?

Sorry for late post. I forgot to add to my calendar after volunteering.

I realized after posting that this could turn political. Not my intention, at all.

So, in my new role, I would make sure k-12 school curriculum included: the building blocks of good nutrition, macro nutrients, the biology and physiology of exercise, daily physical activity, learning to cook, meditation and mindfulness, how the body ages. One could argue many of these topics are already covered. But I would make this more integrated.

With my unlimited budget, I would also give cities and towns money to create local wellness programs/spaces to encourage physical activity.

I don't mean this to be a joke Emmi but I would hire someone with nutrional knowledge and really good skills in setting up a program that could promote eating and health awareness. A preventative awareness program. Starting with the schools and colleges, then a nationwide program probably through the medical, hospital field or something like that. 🤷‍♂️
