We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - Al_Howard (Al)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - imastar2. (Derrick)
Today's Topic: Sorting things out. Accountability? Weight Gain? Weight Loss? Maintenance?Beginning of the Week? Ending of the Week? Roller Coaster gain & loss? Carbs? Protein? Dairy? Water? Portions? Tracking? WW? Points? MFP Calories? Healthy eating? Social Media diet sites? and the list goes on.
Question:
With so much to consider and so much to keep up with. Do you have a simple strategy that works best for you?

There really are a lot of things to consider when it comes to weight loss, gain, maintenance. Also alot going on in the way of strategy and no size fits all. There are many basics though that need to be applied to most of us. Each of us being different deal with our own individual bodies and issues. So sorting things out is no small order for me. I realize weight loss can be boiled down to a simple statement "eat less than you burn". I wish I could always adhere to that statement but the temptation seems to poke it's head up. Also some of us are dealing with age and health issues which is a natural life event and we have to adjust.
So eventually there are some general basic rules of the game I have to follow to lose weight but dodging the mine fields is where my challenge comes in. So if there is a battle going on within myself I must strive to solve it ie; controlling portions, eating a balance plate and the list goes on. It's just a matter of doing it. Simple right? Ha! Ha!0 -
Nope! If I did I'd be way down.

The strategy that I used when I lost weight previously was to prioritize getting my GHGs every day, first thing. When I focused on that, everything else fell into place.
I have failed to do that for so long. Hmmm......

Stay within my points.
That’s what works. I don’t have to like it; it just works. I don’t have to be motivated; it works. I don’t have to be engaged; it works. I don’t need support; it works.
It works easier and better when all those other things are firing - but it still works. (Or as someone else might say, “I know what to do!”)0 -
Working the WW purple plan, w/o using WPs works for me. But, it takes planning for me to successfully work that plan, I need delicious, LP options cooked and ready to heat and eat.. Yesterday and today I made a crock pot full of marinara sauce (some for the freezer), baked some spag squash, made enough butternut squash soup to freeze some (had a glut of them in my garden), and Pete's recipe for Giant Turkey Meatball is baking for dinner. DH is getting some chicken breasts to grill tomorrow. I should be good to go for a few days!
I also do best if I limit my eating to 8 or 10 hours. Making that decision ahead of time makes saying no to evening snacks pretty easy.0 -
I'm thankful that I joined WW when it was the PointsPlus program. Focusing on Power Foods and GHGs leaves a lot of space to get creative with flavors without a ton of points. I like a few simple rules/guidelines that make sense. Mentally, I can handle about four simple things to keep in mind regarding weight loss.
But doing that program and/or Simply Filling Technique requires me to be more organized than I frequently am. So I'm trying to take advantage of the time that COVID has freed up from normal holiday commitments to set myself up for long-term success. I want to improve my health and to start 2021 feeling proud and motivated. And I'm hoping that less weight and increased exercise will improve my chances of surviving COVID should I get it.0 -
I made GW because I started tracking and didn’t stop. Over my points, I tracked it. Didn’t really know how many points was in that meal, I made a good faith guess and tracked it. Then by trying to stay within my number I was sort of jammed through the funnel into healthy eating. Except for treats and indulgences. Of which there were enough. Now its just habit.0

Tracking keeps me on track.0

Yeah tracking, and also weighing and measuring no eyeballing except when I am eating some place other than home1
