The issue of whether or not 'incidental exercise' was still 'exercise" was mentioned in a post.
Both types of exercise can be beneficial and you will see examples of both types within the post of UAC members.
Just to clarify the vocabulary, here is a quote from the web..
"What is intentional exercise?
It might be useful to distinguish between intentional exercise and incidental exercise. By intentional exercise I mean exercise that you consciously set out to do in order to help lose weight or improve your fitness. By incidental exercise I mean exercise that happens incidentally to doing other things"
Whatever you decide is exercise is your decision.10 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes walk for an hour and 5 min Pilates.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes but used every single calorie. 😁
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes9 -
It is nice that a key feature of the UAC is that it allows each member to define for themselves the goals they are seeking, and with exercise, whether intentional or incidental. In my personal case, since my goal at this point in time is to target aging/fitness, I need mind to be intentional. But I am so glad that each of our goals are not being dictated to us other that achieving a reasonable amount of time and, more importantly, achieving it regularly.11

Turned out that incidental eating required a lot of intentional exercise to 'earn' the required calories today. I'm below by a few hundred in the end but I had an 'oh s***' moment after I entered my lunch tapas. Discovered pork cheeks and carob creme brulee today, oh my ...

Incidental exercise would be NEAT I believe? It's the very best kind! I love burning those calories doing things I love like riding and barn work. However I do find it important to plan exercise also. A run and 2 walks per day as breaks from sitting at my desk and zooming..10 -

3x’s yes. I’m not leaving many calories on the table. Easing my way back into UAC focusing on the habits not the weight.
I am all about intentional exercise- for me doing the intentional hard work makes me capable of living a life filled with incidental. I love, love, love working out but I also love that by building up my muscle and endurance by working out I can easily garden all day or spend a day sleigh riding.
Lol but spending the day in the garden never seems to make the time in the gym easier- funny how that works.

Though I know weight numbers are not the primary focus for us here in the UAC, I want to share that for November (a fairly challenging calorie month) I managed to get rid of 7.2 pounds, and for the October Challenge another -5.0. I am now weighing slightly less than October 2019, which seems like a miracle. Target weight is in sight (129-130 – weight at my nephew’s May 2019 wedding) and doable in the next couple months. I am grateful for the results. Also notable for the November UAC, I entered and walk/ran a virtual 5K. I looked at the results and I came in 154/357 for total entries, 87/234 female, and 19/87 over 50 female. I would have been happy if I even came in last, because I entered. Being in the top 50% is super motivating even though I know this kind of race is not full of competitive runners.
So now for my December UAC. I am starting by raising my daily target calories by 50, and will be re-evaluating this every 10 days, as I want to start easing into my eventual maintenance calories. I don’t want to get go from lower calories to higher calories in a single day. I will be trying my best for the Winner’s circle, but need to be realistic and will at least commit to showing up daily and aiming to be a champion and aim to clean off 2 more pounds during December. Then, during my next 9 days in the Keys, I plan to walk/run to Sombrero Beach and even try to get you a sunrise photo (will take some planning ) and get back home. Google maps claims the distance is 3.3 miles each way. At for the rest of the month, my brain can only cope with planning til the 12th. Will regroup again once up north again.
BTW in November, I did not opt for eating back my “exercise” calories like I had planned. My problem with the method of eating back each day’s exercise calories is that that calorie number not compatible with advance planning and tracking, and I like to plan and pre-track my days. So this is the reason I am going try upping my planned daily calories instead and that way I can continue with the pre-tracking that works well for me.
Here we go!

*** MFP considers me under my calories for the day, but I am still currently not eating back exercise calories. So, Pass #1 used, but worth it – Oysters Rockefeller, and dinner of Seared scallops over Succotash with asparagus and a bacon ju. Lovely meal – no booze or dessert. Ironic part is I was hungry by the time I got home. Speculating is that I will not make the winner’s circle this month, but still going to keep it in mind cause you never know......

My intentional exercise is a minimum 30 minutes per day on the treadmill. For those who have Apple Watches I try to get my three circles every day. Usually I miss a few days but so far for December I'm 9/9 so I'm going to try hard to be 31/31.7
