We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Topic: Balanced nutrition

The old WW program that I was on had check boxes for "good" oil, veggies, milk etc.

What are you doing to get balanced nutrition?

PS Traveling again, sorry for the late post.
PPS Traveling most of June and July, so I can't do those months.

I don't track any nutrition. I try to get a lot of protein, but it's a struggle.
I put a bottle of vitamins by the coffee maker, then forget to take them
I build veggies into most dinners.
I have fish once/twice a week for lunch.
I have dairy for breakfast and maybe a snack with yogurt.

Now that I see how little attention I'm paying, it's a little depressing. ...

Yeah I miss the ghg on WW as well, and as a result I do even less about it than you do!

I don’t pay a lot of attention, and like most above, I suspect I’m not in total balance with the universe.

I do try to get protein at every meal.
I have something from the fruit and veggie spectrum a couple of times a day.
I tend toward fish or chicken rather than beef, given the option.
    I infrequently eat fried foods.
I make my own balsamic dressing at home, so I get some healthy oil when I have a salad.

But this is one of those topics where I think the diversity of opinions works against overall health. Whatever definition of healthy eating you follow, there’s someone out there shouting that you should be doing X instead of Y, or what you’re doing but with more Z, or only Z and stop X and Y. Honestly, I tune it all out now and just focus on losing weight. I think getting my weight under control does more for my overall health than any tofu or Brussels sprout or quinoa could do.

Call it “The Charlie Plan”. 😊

I’ve mostly just been sort of funneled into healthy eating. In order to get enough food as my points went down I had to load up on veggies, whole grains, fruit and lean protein.

I too try for a "balanced diet". I also keep an eye on the nutrients in MFP's diary pages. I really watch protein, carbs, and sodium.
