We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Topic: Taking someone along with you...
Have you successfully encouraged someone to make this journey with you? Have you partnered with someone and has it worked out for both of you? Or, are you a solo warrior?

Interesting question.
My wife and I joined together, which was an enormous help in getting to goal. She had less success than I did, and drifted with me as I wandered away. I would say that now she accepts and supports what I’m trying to do, but isn’t as actively engaged as initially.
Hadn’t thought about it, but that difference in commitment could be part of why I’m losing more slowly on this second trip.0 -
DH used to always clean up his diet post Nov/Dec holidays, and drop 15 or 20, giving me a dirt buddy. Tho we have vastly different approaches, it was still nice to have the junk food out of the house. He hasn't done this in a few years, and I miss it!
This is a very timely question though, since I've been contemplating asking him if he'd be willing to "diet" for a while. His salty, crispy snacks are killing me! I'm hoping if we can clear the house for even just a month, I could stop munching on them when they are here. And honestly, it'd just be nice to both be on the same page!0 -
I think weight loss is a solitary pursuit. Not only don’t I have a WL partner, I mostly keep what I’m doing to myself. DW has been tremendous help but we don’t get into the details of my plan.
That said I did, by example, inspire a coworker to join WW. One day she cornered me and started digging into specifics and I finally fessed up about WW. Think she lost about 30 lbs. Last I saw her she had been maintaining for years.0 -
TOL and I joined together in 1978, lost well, achieved goal in 1979. THEN... drifted. I got real heavy starting in 2000, as I started working on mu butt, instead of my feet. Original goal was 190, went to 335. TOL went up about 100# during the interim also.
She's now on DR. note maintenance, and I'm finally approaching my Dr. note number. We do it together, and it really helps me. (And I think I help her too.)
