hi everyone! I had a few off-plan days - a family wedding on Friday, and then a visit to my son for his 30th. So I'm back on it today! Aiming for a very strict 21 days, no booze, 800 cals and TRE.1

Good morning all!
Back online after having Monday and Tuesday off.
Hope all is well.
@melaniecheeks sounds like you had a nice weekend and time with your son and family!
Our weather over the long weekend was straight up terrible here. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and most of Monday was COLD and RAINY! Second part of the weekend was better. Went to a friend's house on Sunday for a Memorial Day get together and we were all in sweaters, jeans, and slippers inside. LOL
Looking forward to warmer weather, beach and being outdoors!
Otherwise, things are good here. Have a good day and a good rest of the week. See you soon.0 -
Haha.... omg Meghan... I’m trying my best to send warm sunny weather your way!! No clouds in sight here... currently having a weak lemonade on the sundeck under the umbrella!!!!! I’ve done lots of gardening today, planted two plants to let my “lovely” neighbours know where my property ends!!
I’ve not had much of a fast in any shape or form but I am watching and being mindful, that’s a plus right?
Melanie sounds like you had a great weekend!
It’s Thursday tomorrow people!! Where does the time gooooo???1 -
@Meghan509 It is sunny and nice here, so it should be heading your way by the weekend!
@mamainthekitchen Time flies when you're having fun. Or gardening.
I have a list of things to do that isn't going magically get itself done. (Who knew?) So I had best be off. Have a good day! Stay healthy!2 -
Good morning!
Popped in to work for a few hours. Met two new people who started with us late last year. Nice to be getting a little more back to "normal". Whatever that is.
Our new bird feeder is a huge hit with the birds. LOL Yesterday we had a wood pecker visiting us a few times!
WOE is okay. Need to be better on the weekends. Thinking it is time to change things up and add some more carbs during the week so weekends are not so iffy. Sigh...
Hope all is well with you guys!
Thanks @mamainthekitchen I appreciate sunny weather being sent over! We are getting more rain today and some tomorrow but the weekend is supposed to be sunny and HOT. BRING IT ON!!
@KateNkognito thanks for the weather vibes too!!
Have a good one and see you all soon.1 -
Happy Friday!
Hope everybody is good.
Doing a restart come Monday. Going to move from the Keto Diet over to a Mediterranean Diet with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and more fiber. Been feeling kind of bored with low carb for the last few months and have been eating poorly on weekends as a result. Time for a refresh!
Going to head to Trader Joe's tonight to pick up some fruits, veggies, whole grain bread, oatmeal or steel cut oats, canned beans and nut butter. Will aim to eat a good amount of proteins, fats, and carbs to try and feel more satisfied and less deprived. 1200-1300 calories per day with some fasting thrown in here and there.
Nice weather on tap here for the weekend! Sunny and 80's F. Planning to hit the beach on Sunday and maybe Saturday, depending on if friends join us for lunch or not.
Have a great day and a nice weekend. See you soon!1 -
Happy Saturday! Had my 2nd pfizer jab yesterday so my arm is a bit achy today. But got through Friday evening with no alcohol (had a Gordons 0% Gin and diet tonic in the garden, which was lovely) and am down 3 pounds this morning! Visiting a friend for lunch today, so I shall try to stick to plan as much as I can, and I will have swedish carrot and cod for dinner, with a glass of alcohol free rose.2
-
Happy Saturday!
Nice @melaniecheeks I had good luck with the Pfizer shot. No issues.
Three pounds down is awesome! Way to go.
Hope you are all having a good weekend! Enjoy.1 -
It is a beautiful day again!
@Meghan509 Sometimes it is good to change things up and get re-inspired. Enjoy your weekend!
@melaniecheeks Sounds like you are on a roll! Enjoy your visit!
Off to soak up all the lovely weather! Have a good one! Stay healthy!

Motivation: Two different groups of family coming to town. Must be thinner.1
-
Good fast yesterday. Have today planned out. I am on a roll! Have a great week, y'all!1
-
Good morning!
Happy Monday!
@KateNkognito thanks! Yes, I know what you mean about motivation. For me - summer is almost here and I want to feel a little more shorts and bathing suit ready. Later this year we will see more family visiting. Next year, in approximately eleven months I turn 50. Sigh... Need to stay focused and try to be the best and healthiest I can be.
We had a nice weekend. Finally great weather here. Went to the beach yesterday and it was really nice. Lots of people were swimming but we didn't. We stayed put and relaxed under the umbrella. Good times.
Hope everybody has a good day and a great week. See you soon!1 -
Happy Tuesday!
Day one went well of Mediterranean WOE. Felt so nice and so strange to be eating organic brown rice with dinner! YUMMY.
Made some overnight oats to have today at around noon or so. 1 cup unsweetened Almond Milk (Vanilla), 1/2 cup Organic Rolled Oats, 1 tsp chia seeds, 1 tsp cinnamon. Put all in a bowl in the refridge and overnight it bulked up. Will let you know how it tastes.
Hope you have a good and healthy day / week. Hot here!! See you all soon.0 -
@Meghan509 Glad you are liking your new WOE. I hope it works well for you!
This week is already shaping up to be a busy one! Today is a fast day. I am going to change things up a little and have my meal for brunch (10:30ish) and see how that goes. I have been reading about how an early eating window is better, but I am not sure how it will work for me. We'll see.
Have a great week! Stay healthy!0 -
Got side tracked by an interview and A JOB OFFER!! I am going to teach middle school science!! Going to go celebrate!2
-
ooooh, good luck Kate!
I had a stressful day yesterday and ended up eating a croissant and a slice of sourdough toast. I'm making myself record it all in my food diary for accountability. At least I didn't reach for the wine....3 -
Good morning all!
Wednesday is here! The Mediterranean WOE is going well. Had sautéed green lentils with dinner and they were yummy. For after dinner we each had half an apple with some peanut butter on top. Delish. I feel like I am rediscovering fruits and gains all over again.
Congratulations @KateNkognito way to go on the job offer!! How'd the earlier meal time go? I have been experimenting with eating earlier as well. I like it.
@melaniecheeks sorry you had a tough day yesterday. Sending hugs.
@mamainthekitchen hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
Quiet day working remotely today. In the office tomorrow for a bit. Have a good day and see you all soon!0 -
Thanks for the well-wishes! Science is my thing, but middle school makes me a little nervous.
My mother-in-law's heat/AC unit went out a few weeks ago. Fortunately, it has been cool until the last week or so. Today I am hanging out at her house meeting all the workmen to get everything replaced. Fun times.
@Meghan509 I am liking the earlier time, I think. I am not sure if it is helping with sleeping better, or if I am just more worn out. LOL Glad you are liking the new WOE so much! Change is good, sometimes.
@melaniecheeks You will do better today! There is no failure if you don't quit! (Sorry, I sound like a motivational poster!)
@mamainthekitchen I hope you are busy enjoying your gardens and nice weather and grilling good things!
Have a great rest of the week! Be healthy!

Hi everyone, it’s been a week!
My son’s blood sugar has been way out of wack… Dr thinks he’s officially out of the ‘honeymoon’ phase for his diabetes. Such a worry. Dr was good as this was all sudden. He now has an insulin pen use for once per day…. Long story, but he’s doing alright and a trooper. Gotta make it seem like it’s ok and not horrible even though it is! Ahhhh. So much to say and this is not the place for that
Off to see my parents for lunch today! Tomorrow my dog goes for acupuncture!!! Yup! She limps and after an extremely expensive mri they still don’t know what’s wrong.
Kate congratulations on your new position!!! I hope you love it! Science can be made to be so much fun!!! My kids were disappointed that their teachers weren’t like Bill Nye the science guy!!! Haha do you start in September??? And how did your early eating go?
Meghan I’m glad you’re enjoying a different variety of foods. I have to tell you, after all my losses, I also wanted to try the Mediterranean style. That did not last with me. Although I was probably distracted and not focused, but do remember feeling like it was the start of the end for me. Keep a watch on your cravings, new carbs in your diet will make you want more and I didn’t know that. Good luck to you! So nice your guy is always in sinc with eating plans!!!!!!
I’ve done pretty well eating by noonish, protein and salads usually, made a low carb rubarb crisp last night as a treat for my son… soo good, put once ounce of oatmeal in it and that was too much! Next time 1/2 oz… the rest is almond flour and 1T millet flour. Making him a batch of pancakes in few minutes… new hope mills brand! So good!
I just need to eat like him and no sneaking candy and like Melanie, stay off the booze!
Hugs to all!1 -
Ohh I'm going to throw out the liquorice and twiglets that are my undoing in the evenings! I hate wasting food, but it's holding me back. I realise I can't deal with temptations if they are sitting there. Like the wine, I have to ban it from the house.2

Hello all!
Things are going well here. Made some fish on the grill last night and it was lovely! The weather report had called for rain from 5pm to 8pm but then it changed and it was sunny and pretty!
New WOE is good. Still liking it a lot. Going to see what fun recipes I can find for next week!
@KateNkognito hope all went well with the A/C repair. These types of things always break down in the middle of a heat wave, so she lucked out!! We are using window units now in our new place and it has been an adjustment. The old condo we had was central air. I tend to run on the cool side, so heavy duty air conditioning means where's my parka. My guy - not so much. LOL
@mamainthekitchen thanks for your thoughts on the Mediterranean Diet. I totally know what you mean about carbs and how they can make you hungry and they create cravings. I have been there, done that myself. That was one of the reasons I had gained and needed to find Keto almost two years ago. We were eating A LOT of carbs and not the right ones and no sort of balance with protein and fat.
We found some info online that refers to a version of the Mediterranean Diet as The Satiating Diet. A blurb is cut and pasted below, for anyone interested. Here is the link: https://www.verywellfit.com/satiating-diet-4691353
My takeaway - we are focusing on eating the best quality carbs and sticking to the macro breakdown suggested below. So far feeling good and not overly hungry or carb bloated. Went through some old carb heavy recipes I had and made some edits so they fit better with the macros. i.e., more protein and less carb where needed. In another paragraph they suggest combining carbs and protein whenever and as often as possible.
The satiating diet is mainly made up of whole foods that research suggests may play a role in reducing appetite and/or improving satiety. This includes healthy fats, lean proteins, and fiber-rich foods, using the following macronutrient breakdown:
20 - 25% protein
30 - 35% fat
45 - 50% carbohydrates
@melaniecheeks good plan with the naughty foods! Yep, we've all been there. Sigh... You got this.
See you all soon!!1 -
@mamainthekitchen Sorry about your son. Being the Mama is tough when you want to protect your kids and you can't. This is always the place to say what you need to.
@melaniecheeks I know what you mean. I have had to throw things out or tell my family to hide them from me. (I have also been known to just binge all of it and then regret my life choices. )
@Meghan509 I am really glad you are finding what works for you. I have really noticed that it changes over time. Fasting is fantastic like that.
So, I had moved my eating up to 1-2 in the afternoon and it has worked really well. Today I ate at about 11 AM. I am about to chew my own arm off. Bedtime can't come soon enough.2 -
Hello and Happy Friday all!
Hope you all are having a great day! TGIF.
Even though the scale wasn't happy to see me this morning, I had a good week and am feeling good! We plan on continuing with our Mediterranean WOE. Going to come up with some nice stuff to make for next week. This is definitely a work in progress. Still have to work on meeting macros and eating less fat and eating more carbs. Calories have not been an issue. Been nailing those fine.
Hoping for nice weather this weekend. Weather report looks a little cloudy and cooler than the last few days. We will see how it goes. Would be nice to at least have one beach day sigh...
@mamainthekitchen your son has Type 1 diabetes, correct? Sending hugs.
@KateNkognito I hope you made it to bed time without gnawing off a limb. LOL Yep, I have been there too!
1 -
I made it through with all my limbs intact. I am down at least a pound in the last week, so I am motivated to keep going. We have some family coming to town this weekend. So that will be fun. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Be healthy!2
-
Thanks guys… yes type 1 for my boy. So strange as I know no one living with it. No family or friends! Today was unbelievable!! Our provincial gov’t just announced that our health system will set up free blood sugar test for everyone with type 1…. This test is the one that is like a patch you stick (with a needle) to your skin for 14 days and can hook up to your cell phone and you read your blood measurements from that …NO NEEDLES PRICKING YOUR FINGERS!!!! Omg!! So coincidental since last week we bought one of those (lasts two weeks!) 98$ so this news was a huge deal today!! It’s such a helpful tool!!!! So happy! Thanks for your hugs guys!
Well Meghan I’m so impressed you’re really focused and determined no matter the method!!!
Enjoy family time kate!!!! One pound at a time! And glad your 4 limbs are still intact!
We have rain this weekend, but it keeps our trees green I say!!! Grilled chicken last night with garden salad; coleslaw with balsamic shredded chicken & sriracha Mayo tonight… fish with tarragon, lemon & garlic with broccoli tomorrow! Trying to have a one meal a day for a week!! Ugh!!
Happy Friday and have a great weekend !!1 -
I'm trying out a paneer salad for lunch today - wow, didn't realise how high in calories it is!0
-
Had a nice weekend. I even got some fasting and weight loss in with the family visiting. I also got to hold a baby for a while... then give her right back!
@mamainthekitchen I have had several students with type 1, those little devices are amazing! So glad you get it paid for. Your meals sound really good, too.
@melaniecheeks I hate it when that happens! I hope it was yummy, though!
I hope everyone has had a nice weekend. Stay healthy!0 -
Oh it wasn't even worth it! I spent a whole Sunday morning cooking, with rubbish results!
Made poached egg and ado on sourdough toast - the ado wasn't ripe, the egg wasn't fresh enough and went stringy. Toast was nice!
The paneer salad ended up being bits of raw onion in a curdled yoghurt sauce. I only ate half (so I guess I save some of those paneer calories!) And my bag of spinach was full of slimy bits. And I had no tomatoes.
Need to do abetter plan for this week. Miso aubergine with edamame tonight I think.2 -
Oh Melanie, you are trying!! LOL on the slimy bits in your spinach!!! I’ve had that too!!! Way too often!
Kate, I give those students of yours a+ for managing an already difficult time addressing school issues, plus, then add type 1 concerns??? Yikes…. It’s a 24hr continuous ordeal for me so far!!! I don't know how they do it!!
Had leftovers on a Sunday! Enough said! ‘Clean out the fridge omelette’ in the morning which was delish! That’s it…. No candy for over a week!!! Yeah!! Tonight I’m sleeping with my dog… she had acupuncture on Thursday and now she’s lame!!!!!! Calling drs in morning…. Why is it always something?? I thought retirement meant doing next to nothing all day and no worries!!!!! Well, the books are wrong people!!! “Enjoy each day as it comes” my grandmother who lived to be 100 used to say!!!
Meghan , I haven’t yet read that article you posted a couple days ago, but plan on it tomorrow… hope your weekend was sunny!0 -
Good morning!
Monday again sigh... Hope everybody had a great weekend!
We got to the beach yesterday, which I am happy about! A little on the cooler side but that was nice too since we didn't sweat.
Happy news on the family front - my sister and her husband in Florida, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl today!
My Dad finished his chemo and radiation a few weeks back and is waiting for upcoming doctor visits to see how everything went and what further follow up is needed. Fingers crossed.
Things are going well here. Feeling good on the new WOE.
Congrats on the loss, @KateNkognito! Yep, nice to hold a baby and then give them back! LOL
@melaniecheeks sorry to hear about your meals not turning out so good.
When we moved in to our current place a few months back, we found out the hard way that our refrigerator was not turned up high enough. Went to eat some food I had prepped and it was AWFUL! LOL
@mamainthekitchen hang in there! Happy to hear about your son's diabetes device being covered! Hope the doggie is okay.
Excited to make a 15 bean soup with ground chicken for dinner tonight. Been a long time since I made it. Lunch this week will be Mediterranean Tuna Salad on top of lettuce.
See you guys soon!0
