@WhatMeRunning what incredible thought, time, talent, and genius went into creating that for your daughter!! I'm certain it was spectacular!3

Yes, yes, and yes, but again just barely on the exercise. I did isometrics whist driving home (several hours), not sure how to log it, but I am sure it was at least equivalent to the 20 min minimum.
My hobbies are fishing, camping, and gardening, that I can think of now. Just got back from a quick in and out camping trip to Idaho in our new trailer. Its really small, but a whole lot nicer than the tents I camped in for many years. Should lengthen my camping time as I get older.

@WhatMeRunning
That project for your daughter’s room sounds amazing and I’m sure it brought her joy even if the installation was short lived!
Also just the idea of jalapeño wine gives me heartburn 😂2 -

Going "nuts" with nuts today? Yes (8 days-free )
(I go "nuts" with nuts most times, trying to continue a good habit this month. Counting the number of "nuts" free days.)
Pass day 1/3 (this is for accountability to myself and my records).
@victorious55 great idea with going nut free!! I thought of u the other day as i had a small amount of nuts the other day and literally got the shock of my life wen i tracked the calories. I always knew that nuts were fatty but omg after seeing just how much i dnt think ill ever touch them again. Ha ha!!!1 -

As far as hobbies, I've been doing the following things with my children and grandchildren: I have taken some weekly time to swim, watch "The Chosen," and work on the summer library reading program. My husband wants me to play my banjo with him regularly again, so I plan to make a concentrated effort to do that.
I can relate to the person that said something else does not get done if they take the time to indulge in a hobby.
This picture is older, but one of my favorites. We have since added 3 daughters-in-law and 4 young granddaughters!8 -
Did I exercise at least 20 minutes? Ahhh... the best laid plans. I planned to take the dog for a walk tonight until the storm hit. Winds, lightning, thunder, flash flood warning, even a tornado warning. It seemed wiser to stay inside. When I did take her out a little while ago, I noticed we lost a tree in front of the apartments directly behind ours. It totally snapped some roots and fell over. It looked like it was resting on the roof of the building. It was a fairly good sized mesquite tree so it makes me sad we're going to lose it completely now. So, I guess I got about 15 minutes total today.
Did I track everything? I did. Some of it was estimated and I tried to pick options from the MFP database that were on the higher end.
Did I meet my calorie goals? As expected, I did not. I did, however, have a lovely time with my son and my daughters in the gawdawful heat of Tempe, AZ. Even inside the restaurant it was hot. Also, I planned to not eat dinner tonight, but when it came down to it, even if I ate more calories than I should have at lunch, it was still only a cheeseburger, fries, and a beer. By dinner I was starting to get hungry again. Since I hadn't planned on cooking tonight, nothing was defrosted, so Ais and I went out. I got fried stuff because the place we went to was out of the cocktail shrimp I was hoping for. And everything else they serve is fried. Ah well.My son works for Arizona State University in the Athletic Department (although he's a University of Arizona graduate). Usually when we get together, he's wearing an ASU shirt of some sort. Today, Megan and I decided to even things out a bit and she wore one of her shirts from Northern Arizona University while I wore a UA shirt. (Ais stayed neutral in gray). I repeat... the best laid plans... Jeremy walking into the restaurant wearing a plain black shirt, and while his ball cap had the ASU emblem on it, it just wasn't the same. Hahahaha! My girls are twins.
I call them my "polar opposite twins" - height-wise you can see the difference, Ais is left handed, Meg is right; Meg is academic (teacher), Ais's mantra in high school was "D for Diploma!", Meg is a tomboy who loves soccer and football, Ais thinks (or used to think) the only sport worth watching was figure skating, Meg is a nerd and a reader (think Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Doctor Who, etc... she didn't fall far from the mommy tree in that), and because of that, Ais has no idea how she is part of our family and thinks books are a waste of space.
Hobbies? Not sure I have many. I'm a reader, and although I tend to have a healthy disregard for the need for sleep when I'm reading, I know I also have to be able to stay awake at work, so I have to put the book down at some point. I prefer fiction. And I prefer paranormal type stories. I read almost strictly for fun and to escape, although I'll occasionally pick up something non-fiction. Other things?I ride my bike on the weekends. Not sure if that's a hobby or a life-saver... or both. I used to enjoy horse riding (even had my own horse for awhile), dancing (ballroom), and writing (most of my writing was fan-fiction in the worlds of a couple of television shows that haven't been tv in years and a lot of it was group writing). I enjoy singing even if I'm not as good as I'd like to be. I do best in a group, and hopefully, that group will be finally be getting back together near the end of August. When I was a kid I took guitar, piano, and banjo lessons.
What would I like to go back to? Horses and ballroom dancing pretty much top the list. @SummerSkier I am pretty jealous of you with Bandit. I don't get to go out to Aislinn's equine therapy sessions often as I have to work, but last time I was out there, I met Milly and fell in love. I can't wait for another chance to get out there (Labor Day, if Ais has an appointment) to hang out in the barn with Milly while Ais is doing her thing.
What would I like to learn? I think I'd like to learn to draw. I'd like to learn how to play the bodhran. Maybe learn to crochet. I tried knitting and I just could not even begin to get the hang of that. Total rubbish. I've wondered if it's too late to start Sienna on agility. Or if she's too clumsy (she trips going up the stairs). Or if she'll be another Kratu (https://youtu.be/vKwh72cCrfA).
I have 1634 days until my hoped for retirement. So I have 1634 days to decide what I'm going to do with my time (besides get a part-time job because I'll go pretty much crazy sitting at home every day).
And with that, it's near midnight, and I want to try to get at least an hour on my bike in the morning before the temperature gets unbearable, so I'll say good night and good day to all of you fine folk. Have a good one!

Loved all the 'hobby' answers! Gave me an incredible insight into what people do in their daily lives, apart from counting and recording calories. I find that doing things I like / love is so important for my mental health. There were so many things I couldn't do during lockdown, and I feel so much better now things are opening up. Went to a wonderful concert last night with my partner, of beautiful French 'chansons'. He absolutely loved it; you don't need a functioning hippocampus to enjoy music.
@mshawski and @MadisonMolly2017 I did an Art History assignment on Louise Bourgeois some years ago and came across Abakanowicz. I have been toying with the idea of picking up research on Louise Bourgeois, i.e. going to see Bourgeois art again, but might instead start a project on Abakanowicz. You never know what joys UAC can bring!
@JTreasures I LOVE your big family pictures - you posted one some time ago, loved it! What kind of music do you play with your amazing family orchestra? One I saw recently in Paris

@WhatMeRunning - Great list of hobbies. Embrace the Failures! They are an important part of the learning process. @mshawski - The lack of time is temporary, but to try to make a little me time in that busy schedule. All work and all that. 😂
@stella7x7 - painting is a great hobby to get into. Embrace your inner Michaelangelo!
@Higa2021 - If it's something you do from choice, and you enjoy it, the beauty is that you get to decide if it's a hobby or not.
@Jana_2020 - I understand where you're coming from. Our hobbies change over time as our lives change. I agree about the habit modification process it's infinitely interesting to explore how our minds work.
Creating Spoilers: There is a drop down menu under the bold backwards capital P at the top of the text box that gives the <Spoiler> option when you click on it. Type or insert whatever you want in the between the 2 bracketsand it appears in a spoiler like this.@alligatorob - I love that little campervan. You must have a lot of fun using it.
@seilidhe - Lovely happy faces. Family time is worth a pass day. I'm with you on losing track of time in a good book.
@Chinkiri - My life changed drastically with lockdown. I volunteer with a lifelong learning charity, and couldn't run or attend any of my groups. However, I found lots of alternative things to do. My grandson asked us to write about our lives for his birthday at the end of March 2020. He had 57 questions he wanted answered. DH and I spent lots of time collaborating on that one. I plan to continue on that and self-publish it for the family. And I did several lockdown Art Challenges which occupied a heap more time. Then there was the garden, and staying fit/healthy. Created a whole new normal for ourselves.
Back later to read/comment on the rest. We have a family celebration planned today for my grandson's 18th birthday.
Live long and prosper 🖖🏻5 -
Great topic! I tend to really get into things and deep dive.
Things that I currently enjoy doing are knitting, drawing, painting, and reading. When I retire in 7 years (not that I'm counting 😂 ) and am not living in a studio in NYC, I want to take up gardening, pottery making, and possibly raising hens (these will become my pet chickens). Things I'd like to take up again when I have more space are making miniatures, sewing, and building lego models. Oh, and also take back up playing the ukulele and learning Spanish. I'm also hoping that I'll end up on a lake so canoeing/kayaking and hiking.
Pass 4? 5? I've lost track
Exercise: Walk and swimming
Tracked: Yes
Calories: Nope (20 over - possibly more with estimating)6 -
I have to get out of the late posting just too tired last night so I logged tracked stayed under, my exercise was beginning to re do the front flower garden finish some river rock around the house foundation I don’t like mud splashes on the house!
Today’s topic was neat I have many hobbies; it’s hard to say what I enjoy the most I have begun to play acoustic guitar again I also have a electric one a Yamaha I use that when I want to annoy people lol then I have 3 acoustic ones, one which is electric my favorite is probably the Yamaha it plays so mellow. Needless to say I love music in general. I am also and avid reader every day throughout the day, outdoor sports are fine if the knee and elbow are well, it now usually consists of gentle hiking, trail walking xc skiing and snow shoeing. Where I live I am very fortunate that the trails are only about 5 minutes away. Spinning also helps me keep the knees in shape and the medicine ball has strengthened my arms again. One hobby that I have neglected for awhile is photography our home is filled with photos of our local area and our children’s artwork sometimes the most common things can turn out to be a unique photo idea. Well that’s a little about me.6 -

This is a spot near me that one needs to be careful at as it is a power dam on the Saranac River in Saranac NY hubby gets nervous if I get too close …. but I wanted a good shot4 -
What a great topic! I haven't had a chance to read all of your posts yet but I definitely will. Today was actually three x no. Too much birthday indulgence.
As far as hobbies my favorite is probably fishing or anything outdoors.
But I also like to doodle. This past October I asked my extended family to participate with me in #inktober. It's where you draw one ink drawing for every day in October and post it. There's a given prompt for everyday regarding the topic of the drawing. It was a fantastic pandemic diversion. There's also a thing called #inktober52 where you do one ink drawing per week. I am not posting the website here but it's pretty easy to find. You might find my entries on Instagram @jdkeach .
Another challenge I had for my family about a year ago was to build a little model of a home of your own design at 1/8 inch equals a foot. I had them send them to me and I set them up on a neighborhood street and photograph them. It was great fun for ages 3 to 70.7 -
I have really enjoyed learning about everyone's hobbies, there is such a fascinating mix of talents!1

July 11 - I posted my main hobby but forgot to post status. oops
Exercise for at least 20 minutes ..................................... ✅ ... 2 run day. rarer and rarer in the tx summertime. A slower 6 miles and a 2 mile sprint. I am really pumped this year with my running. It turns out that the way to get faster is not to just run more. It's is important to have a base but without doing intervals or sprint workouts I never got any faster. This year I have broken 60 minutes multiple times on a 10k vs 1 time last year. I have almost half of all miles under a 10 min pace and quite a significant # under a 9 min pace. Last year I could count those on 1 hand.

Maddie made a great point about spreading calories out and looking at weekly and monthly levels during maintenance. It is true. I took a pass day earlier this month but honestly altho that one day WAS over I had already leveled it out by 5 days later with just a little effort. And it was not a restriction but rather I just logged some of the overage on future days - a couple hundred each day and before too long it was history. The important part to me WAS logging it all and learning to manage it over time. I also did not make any attempt to "exercise" the cals out but just keep my normal routines going. Exercise to me is not a punishment for over eating anymore. It's a joy to see what my body can do.4 -

We decided to go to Five Guys, I did have a lettuce cheeseburger wrap so yay for me plus it was DELICIOUS. The last time we went was before Covid, so it was well worth it. Time to jump back on the horse……2 -
@alligatorob - what a great looking trailer - is that an airstream? I’d like something small that I can pull with my Outback but am also considering buying a vehicle that can pull more weight.
I often say that my biggest problem is too many hobbies and not enough time. Throw in the fact that hubbies hobby is watching TV and he really cherishes me sitting with him at night watching shows. I do it because it’s important to him and good for us, but if that TV died tomorrow I would not care. This means, however, that I don’t spend as much time on my own hobbies as I’d like because there’s only so much time in a day. However, my official retirement date (long story that I won’t explain now) is August 31. So at that point I will have more time for:- Biking
- Quilting
- Running
- Hiking
- Kayaking
- Gardening
- Reading
- The yard/semi-jungle 3 acres we own
- Sewing
- Knitting
- Grandkids
- Piano
- Traveling
- Camping
- I wonder what I’ve forgotten.
Having owned a horse for about 6 years, I really miss the riding, the smells, being in the barn, going to shows. But I have accepted the fact that unless a grandchild takes an interest, my horse days are in the past and it’s probably time to donate that saddle that’s just taking up space in our shed.4 -
