Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes?
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?

To follow-up on @WhatMeRunning's post from yesterday, with 20 minutes of exercise per day, we are lapping everybody on the couch. So, congratulations to everyone here in UAC! Let's keep it up!
How do you get this exercise in each day? Do you have a set exercise schedule - a time on your calendar that is respected like any other meeting or appointment? Or, do you squeeze it in between everything else in life? What tips can you share for those in our group who need to get into a better exercise routine?

My minimum 10,000 daily steps are βDoctorβs Orders.β I do them just like any prescription medication ie βas directedβ
β10K per say, no rest days, for the rest of your life.β
SO, this means the question went from βDo I feel like walking today?β To βWhen Will I walk today?β
For my planks/upper body exercises, Iβve built a morning habit since June 7 that I now do daily automatically. First thing when I get our of bed.
I look forward to my walks - and now I look forward to my strength training, too.
TIPS: begin slowly. Get the habit in place. Then extend distance/time.9 -
I am struggling somewhat, but also enjoying music. My partner seems to be exceptionally needy, as it's holidays and some of his usual activities are not happening. Also it's hot, which doesn't bother me much, I tend to adapt pretty well, actually quite like the heat, but he gets really upset because he's not an early riser and doesn't manage to go for his bike ride before it gets too hot. He doesn't like biking in the cool of the evening either, because 'it's too late / dark'. He's not very flexible.
I am enjoying going to loads of concerts at the moment, Radio France Musique Festival here in Montpellier. My partner cannot come with me mostly, because he refuses to queue up for free events and take pot luck for seating. He has no money to pay for paying concerts. However, I have wangled him a few tickets through a friend. This is not relaxing, as he complains all the time that I am trying to exclude him (I.e. not paying for him, not queuing up for him for ages, fancying my friend, the husband of a friend who's been married for 20+ years to my friend, not putting up with his complaints) I know he has Alzheimer's and cannot help it, but I feel I have to look after myself or I will buckle under.
I am getting plenty of exercise, walking from one venue to another, am mostly keeping under calories, but not managing to track or log in ... Had to work in Marseille yesterday, but am having a day "off", today, so will try and use this to get back on track, logging etc. Going to pick up my new shoes etc., trying not to give in to partner's demands for me to 'help' or rather entertain him ... Sorry for long post ...11 -
@MadisonMolly2017 ur such an inspiration!!!

Over on weight loss calories but still under maintaince calories, i was really hungry today. I was a bit dissapointed with the scales this morning went from 58.5 to 58.9 but not letting it change anything for me like it has in the past. Instead i will keep on doing wat im doing as im working out and eating right so i know in time the scales will cum down to reflect this. Did 20 min of weights today. 1 pass left.
I need to do my walk straight after breakfast then weights straight after that. If i dnt knock it out 1st thing it just doesn't get done. Im def a morning person i get grumpy at night. Ha ha on that note im off to bed. Night my friends Xox5 -
@MadisonMolly2017 Thank you!! I also think that you are inspirational! Several months ago when I first heard you say that the doc had given you an Rx to get in 10k steps every day - you inspired me to bump my steps up. So, like you, I went from went from βI don't really feel like walking todayβ to βdo I have time to get ANOTHER walk in today?β Through my employer, if DH and I get 7,000 steps/day for at least 20 days/month, then my employer will put $65 into my MRA (medical reimbursement account). So that's what we shot for every month. But I've always enjoyed walking and was getting various injuries trying to "over-do" it with exercises.... so I decided that my main exercise would be walking. I'm not losing weight as fast as I was before, but I'm also not injuring myself every other week. Lol. If I can just tighten up my calories/eating, I know that the weight will continue to come off.
Right now, I don't enjoy my strength training... and I don't really have a "habit" in place for it yet. But I know that it's something that I'm going to have to do (ongoing), so I'm trying to figure out how and where to do that (habit stack). As always, thanks so much for your insight!6 -
@Chinkiri Please don't be 'sorry for your long post', I'm so very glad to see you! I had missed you for a few days. I'm sure your partner's Alzheimers and his "moods" are very draining and exhausting for you - and I agree that you have to occasionally do things for your own mental health. I'm glad that in spite of everything you're going through that you're still able to get your exercise in. {{{HUGS}}}4

@donna25trinity you've done so well with your weight loss.... I'm certain that you'll get to your weight goal!!
I'm finding that I'm the same way - if I don't knock my yoga out FIRST thing, then it doesn't get done! I've started to get a pretty good routine down, coffee, breakfast, clean kitchen/dishes, DO YOGA RIGHT AFTER!, then do my morning walk right after that! On the days that I'm working in the office, it changes slightly, doing yoga at home right after coffee and then waiting until I get to work to take a morning walk around the building and parking lot.
I used to be a morning person, (I get up at 4:20am on the days I go into the office!), but with the pandemic and wfh for 15 months, I've been staying up later at night... so now I'm all messed up! Lol. With wfh only 2 or 3 days per week in July and August, I'm really screwed up! Ugh. Although I am glad to be "easing" back into getting up at 4:20am.... the weeks that I have to do it 3 days in a row are H.A.R.D.
I also shoot for 3k steps by 10am; 6k steps by 2pm; and 9k steps by 6pm... that way I'm not rushing out in the evening having to do a 3 or 4 mile walk because I haven't reached my 10k daily goal! It really does help for me to divide it up!!

I try to treat my exercise like an appointment but it doesnβt always work out. I do usually try to get a lunch time walk of at least 30 minutes most of my exercise is in the evening. A pic from a lunch time walk.

Iβve written a long piece about exercise so Iβve put it in a spoiler.Exercise habits β before the pandemic I used to go to the gym perhaps 4 or 5 times a week, also swim sometimes, just use my bike to go down to town every day (round trip about 15-20 minutes) for shopping.
But in the first lockdown the sports centre shut and we were told we could only leave the house once a day β for exercise or shopping or medical appt etc β so I started to rack up the miles on my bike until I was out cycling for between 30 β 60 minutes every day (doing the shopping, calling on mum etc at the same time). At the same time, I started walking in my garden (not allowed out a second time) and doing UTube routines indoors.
I got very fixated on my steps (goal 12,000 a day, often 15,000).
The gyms have reopened but Iβm not rushing back.
I do like to make sure I get 1,000 steps before breakfast β I do a short Utube workout which is low impact but gets all the joints moving, stretches my rusting limbs and gets me out of breath.
After breakfast is usually do my bike ride, out in the countryside, on the hills. Get home around 11. Then I do several short videos during the day with goals of 5,000 steps by lunch time, hope for 10,000 by dinner and then just pottering around for the last 2,000 steps by bedtime. I had a hysterectomy in Jan 2020 and it took several months to be able to do more than 15 minutes aerobic exercise at one time. I had to start with βjust walk to the first lamp post, next week walk to the end of the roadβ and so on.
I have been doing the planking challenge (along with some others from here) for a couple of years but I have drifted off recently. Need to pick it up again and get back to the gym for strength training.
This has turned into a long essay β Iβll put it in a spoiler.
The only tip I have for anyone finding it difficult β find something you enjoy, then it wonβt seem suh hard work. I really enjoy my bike rides and I feel so energised afterwards. Even when itβs cold.

I have regularly scheduled times in the mornings for early cardio workouts, and keep a schedule in my calendars to try to keep an hour open late afternoon or early evening for strength workouts. I actually keep an hour permanently blocked, but sometimes things need to happen during that hour in which case I work to move other things around to free up time for it as much as I possibly can. the workouts I feel are most important to do daily (cardio for example) are done in the morning. I also try to get an walk in during lunch time (my afternoon walk) which today I was afforded some unusual extra time and took advantage of that!6 -

Calories were way over today, but enjoyed a lovey date day with Hubs ahead of my birthday on Sunday. Lovely lunch, cheesecake shops, and got a new ring that makes me happy (Yes, I have a ring problem. Lol.). This weekend is going to be a calorie bomb, which Ive promised myself I will enjoy without feeling terrible about myself. My goals are to honestly log what I do eat and make sure my exercise minutes are in.

While I'm a fan of workout programs, I give myself space to deviate to a workout that I find more fun that day or...to rest.
Also, I purposefully moved to a "walkable neighborhood" in 2019, consider the elevators in my building optional and don't own a car (which goes back to our NEAT conversation the other day).
Basically, I've forced myself into active situations even when I wanna be lazy like today...

@mshawski Love the ring, very much the style I like.
Today, my little sweetie Kitcat whose been with me for 15 years passed away. It's really hard that I wasn't there for her (I'm still in Atlanta), but my best friend who was cat sitting was. She went very quickly and peacefully he said.
I'd missed my morning walk, but told myself it would be good to get out and move a bit and it was.7 -
I exercise first thing every day to make sure it happens. For all of my teaching career ( and stay at home mommy years) that meant getting out the door usually by 5 am during the week. I find that I enjoy exercise early in the day but it becomes a chore if I put it off.
Pass day ( but I walked 10 miles)4 -

Usually Etsy or local rock/artist shops. My favorite place is a place I usually see at the NY Renfaire (and they visit other fairs as well), and itβs where I got my 50# ring and plan to get my 70# ring if I ever get there - theyβre called Moon Angel jewelry out of Sugarloaf NY.
Iβm also just realizing this may have been a rhetorical question that I didnβt need to answer but I take rings seriously soβ¦ ya knowβ¦ π¬ππ€¦π»ββοΈ4 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes - a walk at lunch and a walk after work.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Freggie servings- 8 (best yet!)
I have been trying to set my alarm before work to walk then so no matter what, I know I've got my exercise in. The past couple weeks I've been a bit blah and haven't been able to get out of bed. So, my next chance is my lunch break (assuming I don't end up working through it). If I've already walked I now have an option to try for my yoga, or else I'll walk again. At night my husband and I usually like to do some sort of activity together so that gives me one final exercise chance for a walk or bike ride.
I have found I just know I automatically need to do it so I try to front end load it but am willing to go out late if need be to get it done.3 -
@JennyRebecca1978
Thanks for your opening post!
When I am home in IL, I set my alarm clock to allow enough time for my usual exercise and active stretching.
During the winter season in Arizona, I still set an alarm for stretching and follow that time with hiking.
Other exercises are more incidental than intentional.
Today:
Exercise: active stretching for 15 minutes and cardio strength for 25
Tracking: good
Calories: under my limit3
