Please feel free to share as much information as you feel comfortable sharing about yourself with the rest of the group. We look forward to getting to know all of you a little better.
GOOD LUCK!

Hello! I came to MFP the other day specifically searching for a challenge or a group for accountability. What could be more perfect? I lost over 50 pounds last year, gained it all back, and am struggling to lose it again because I am so disappointed in myself. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you in August!7
-
@RisingAboveIt WELCOME!! We are very GLAD to have you! I lost almost 60lbs back in 2018 and then spent the next 2 years gaining most of it back. Luckily I came to my senses before I gained all 60 back!! Ugh. But this time around I'm learning more about what it's going to take the KEEP the weight off once I reach my "goal weight" .... and in the meantime, I feel like I'm setting myself up for SUCCESS! I've certainly learned the hard way that maintaining is just as hard (if not harder!) than losing!4

Hey all! This will be my second month with the UAC.
I re-committed to weight loss back in January with a goal to lose 125 pounds. I am currently down the first 66 pounds. I have been overweight my whole adult life, but it's gotten progressively worse over the years. I had a bad dream in January, woke up, and I've logged on every day since then.
I honestly had given up hope before that I would ever lose the weight, but now I know I will (and already am!)
Love the accountability MFP and groups like these provide! Let's have a great month ahead.8 -

Hey there, hi there, ho there! I'm the overly chatty bilingual Canadian who started using MFP back in JAN2020 and found UAC in OCT 2020. Whether you're new or returning, it's so great to have you here! 🤗
My goal? Maintain my body fat in the 18-21% range while increasing lean muscle mass +3%. Along the way, getting stronger, more flexible, and working on mobility improvements are fun bonuses.
I'm waffling between body recomp and maintenance right now while dealing with a finicky groin pull/issue. I'll decide which by the end of this month.
AUG Exercise: The 10,000 Swing Kettlebell Workout (Take #3), daily walking and stretching
AUG Nutrition: Hit my protein macro (40%) at least 3x a week and keep fat macro under 25% for the month's average.5 -
Hello everyone!
I first joined MFP in 2014 weighing 316 pounds with pre-diabetes, high cholesterol and vitamin D deficiency. I lost 96 pounds in just over 10 months with a great deal of credit to MFP for tracking my food intake and calories. A lot of other great things started happening that year too. Like running. OK, maybe that's it. I started running. But it was a lot of running!
After being in the best shape of my life for a few years and getting glowing results from my doctor at my annual physicals, by 2019-2020 I stopped tracking and exercising and regained a lot of my weight back.
In March of 2021 I finally decided enough was enough, weighed myself in at 296 pounds, and got back to work at losing all that weight again! Naturally I went back to MFP where I had made all of my progress before.
In May 2021 I learned about the UAC and tried it out. I wish I had known about the UAC all those years ago (if it existed then) because it really helps to keep me on track with the most important things:
1. Tracking food intake - Without this you have no idea if you are over/under calories or what your macros look like.
2. Staying within my calorie goals - No-brainer why this is important.
3. Staying active and exercising - I see no point in losing all that weight to just be unhealthy yet skinny.
Looking forward to August!
ETA: Oh, you can always send me a friend request if you would like to see additional encouragement in your feed.7 -
Hi everyone! I'm Christie, an Aussie, married with a 2.5 year-old son.
I have been overweight my entire life, probably due mostly to PCOS which I was diagnosed with in 2009. It has taken me many years since then to come to terms with the fact I will live with this syndrome and its horrible symptoms for the rest of my life, and to stop using it as a crutch for why "I can't lose weight". PCOS definitely makes losing weight harder, but it's not impossible.
I've been on MFP for 9 years, but I've come and gone a bit. It's been about a year since I came back and dove into the Community side of it to help me stay motivated. Since then I have lost over 30 lbs - which is more than I've managed to lose ever before. The real difference this time has been that I am taking slow, baby steps to make changes that I can live with for the rest of my life, just like the PCOS. Because this isn't a diet with an end date, this is my life, and I need to make it sustainable.
I discovered the UAC group last month and jumped in about halfway through. I like the simplicity of the daily accountability which aligns really well with my own personal goals. I'm still a work in progress but I hope to hit the winner's circle in August!6 -
Just like a bad penny, I'm back. This will be my third month with UAC (how did that 2nd month go so fast?). I don't even know when I first joined MFP, because I'd forgotten I had. I was reminded when I tried to join back in 2013 or something when I was told my name and my email address were already in use. I played with old passwords until I got in. I lost about 40 lbs, and then fell off the wagon. Came back in April or so of 2020, and did well for awhile. Again lost close to 40 lbs. I found UAC in June of this year and while I have yet to make the Winner's Circle, and I am admittedly struggling with what I know I need to do, I am here and y'all are stuck with me. And thank you for that. If you're new, welcome! I think you'll like it here.4

I've always been overweight. I remember crying the day before secondary school because I hated my double chins so much. About 8 years ago I lost over 60lbs (potentially a fair bit more - I didn't start weighing myself until a few months in.)
Then had a baby in 2016 and regained a chunk.
Lost a lot of that weight even if I did wait a bit too long to lose so had gained even more. I discovered UAC early 2020.
Fell off the wagon when I got pregnant.
Had another baby 7 weeks ago so here I am trying to get on it a bit quicker this time.

@Geneveremfp WELCOME!! You've come to the right place! It's good that you're aware and ready to do something about that 'extra' baby weight NOW (vs later!) I only gained 15 lbs with my first baby, and 7 of that was baby! I lost the other 8 lbs within a few months after he was born. But with each successive child, I gained more and more weight during the pregnancy, and lost less and less of it afterward!! Yikes! After the birth of my 3rd child, I weighed 60 lbs more than I had prior to my 1st baby! I sometimes joke and tell ppl I'm STILL working on that 60 lbs, and my boys are 40 and 37!!! Lol.4
-
Hello! I'm Teresa and I turned 60 this year! I recommitted to my weight loss back in October 2020 with a goal to lose 60 pounds. I am currently down 40. I was tall and skinny as a teen and didn't start gaining weight until the birth of my children. As I said earlier, I gained a little more with each child and never could lose all the baby fat. Add to that the fact that I've had desk jobs all of my adult life - my weight has crept up even more over the years.
I lost 60lbs back in 2018 (using MFP, eating keto, and walking!) but once I stopped "dieting" I began gaining it back again. By summer of 2020 I had hit the 200lb mark again. Ugh. But this time I'm learning that I have to change my mindset around "dieting". This group has helped to keep me focused and accountable. Plus, I'm learning more about what to do when I do finally get to my "goal weight" so that I don't ever "back-slide" again!
Feel free to send me a friend request as well!6 -
Hello! I'm April and I am new to the group, but this is not my first weight loss rodeo. This time is a little different though because I will be turning 60 in October. I decided in April that I want to hit that milestone feeling good about myself, plus I have become very aware that things are getting REAL and at 60 I have to focus on my health.
So far so good. I started at 178.8 on April 12th and 15 weeks in I am down to 141.2. Plus. when I started I was not exercising at all and have built up to running. My best so far is 3.6 miles!
My first goal is to get down to 128 and to run 4 miles, and then when I get there I will reassess.
I am hoping this group will help not only now, but more importantly when I make it to the most difficult and longest phase--maintenance. I have failed many times and know I need support.7 -
Hi all. Terri here. Good to see both returning and new members with us for August.
I've been with UAC for almost 3 years. This is such a great motivational space, where you get valuable support from the kind, caring members. It has helped me finally reach my UGW (just before Covid hit the world for six) and stay there for the duration. Posting everyday helps build solid habits which will help you on your quest for better Health and Fitness.
There are 3 'simple' daily requirements:- 20+ minutes exercise
- stay under your personal calorie goal
- Track calories
You get up to 3 pass days, to help you earn your place in Winners' Circle.
If you use more than those 3 pass days, all is not lost. You can join our Champions for the month by logging every day, no matter what.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

I'm Brisingr AKA Sarah. Back for my 2nd month.
I work a full time desk job and have a major weakness for boredom snacking and Mountain Dew. I also have an almost 14 month old son so tracking occasionally gets tricky (i.e., I ate the snap peas and leftover carrots from the mixed vegetables my son had for lunch, I ate two bites of waffle from his breakfast), but I do my best.
While I didn't make Winner's Circle, July UAC was really successful for me so hoping to keep it going through August. The biggest challenge will be the 2 weeks I'm spending with my parents (vacation).
My MFP journey:Found MFP in spring 2013 and joined around 185 (I think). Off and on to eventually lose ~35-40 lbs to be ~145-150 when I got married in July 2016. Took a break and ended up around 200lbs by July/August 2018. Got serious again and back down to ~180. Gained ~25 lbs during pregnancy. Back to pre-pregnancy weight 2 weeks after delivery (June 2020), but gained 13-15 over the following year. Got serious about losing again after weaning in June 2021. Thanks to UAC, I'm down >8lbs in July and almost back to pre-pregnancy weight.
SW (this round): 192.0
CW: 182.0
GW: 140 (maybe 135)
August GW: 178 (would love to get to 175, but with 2 weeks away from home, I'll be happy to pretty much maintain)6 -
I'm back for month nine. I've been in a plateau since March so started a recomp in June. I'm stronger and more toned but my weight is still hovering in the 119-122 range. My goal is to get down to about 112 as I'm small boned and carry my excess weight in the waist/upper body.
Being in the UAC has been very helpful for me as this is the most consistent I've been with getting my daily exercise in.7 -
Hi all, I'm really looking forward to this challenge.
I live in South Australia but originally from London.
It's winter here at the moment, so I am looking to lose some kg's before summer and then to carry on to my goal weight after that, as I'm being realistic about how long it will take me to lose the 19kg I want to lose.
I like walking, especially at the local beaches and also cycling, yoga & swimming. Though I haven't swam in a while due to a dodgy shoulder but am hoping to get back in the pool at some stage.

Hi everyone 😊 This is the first challenge I have joined but I feel like I need the motivation and accountability. I joined mfp 6 years ago, over this time I managed to lose around 15 pounds, but it always seems to sneak back on! I am determined to lose my extra 10 pounds this time and I think this could be the challenge to keep me on track.6

Hi all, I'm new to MFP and the UAC. I'm a 30 year old mom of 2. I had massive success with keto until a pregnancy and lots of stress eating derailed me in 2020. Now I'm back to it, training for a 5K in October, practicing yoga, and breastfeeding. My goal for August is consistency with my diet and exercise, and working through mistakes instead of letting them totally derail me. Feel free to add me as a friend too!6
-
@msdharrison ! I know!!!! Imo it "stinks" that weight is so difficult to take off, and so easy peasy to put back on!! Lol. But we have several ppl in the group that have lost weight and MAINTAINED their weight loss (some for years!) .... personally, I'm not there YET, but I believe strongly that part of my success is that I'm learning so much from those that have "been there, done that" !! WELCOME!!
@savvybshoes Congrats on your 5k's (I read your profile and saw that this is not your first), that's awesome! We have several runners in the group ~ you'll feel right at home! WELCOME!2 -
Good Morning. Joining Aug challenge because I enjoy this group so very much. I am bON from Austin Tx and come Oct will have maintained by weight since 2017 (4 years). I am mom to a fabulous horse and 4 ornery kitties. Still working full time and back in the office since mid Jun which has been a challenge. If I have learned anything it's that altho there are some basics to weight loss and maintenance, each of us has to find out way individually and what works for one might be a disaster for someone else. Sticking with it even thru failures is how we get to the prize.
Welcome to old and new alike. I always enjoy the intros and seem to learn more about everyone every month.5 -
Hi all I was looking to kick start my habits and lose some weight. I’ve resisted MFP and logging for so long, I’ve tried all the fads and have had minimal success. A couple of coaches I respect have said ditch the fads and just go with MFP. So here goes, what better way than to start a challenge in August!9

👋🏻 Hi im Maryann. I just turned 38. Hubs and I have a soon to be 6 year old who is sweet, adorable, and the emobidment of chaos. I’m 60ish lbs in your a journey of 80-85lbs, and I’ve been stuck at 180 for what seems like forever but I think has only been 3 months. This will be my 8th month of UAC. My goals for this month will be to only have 2 pass days (we have an overnight in NYC at the end of the month) and to see what reinstating one rest/yoga/light walk days back into my week does for me since lately I’ve just been a constant ball of hurt and tired. Hoping the scale moves in a positive direction this month 🤞🏻🍀 I need to reclaim my willpower on weekends.
Oh, and I reward myself for milestone weight wins with rings, so apologies in advance if I spam you guys with rings. That being said my next one comes at 70#s and at this rate I’ll be getting that in August 2025. 💍🤦🏻♀️6 -
This will be my eighth month of the UAC. Good luck to everyone!4
-
Hi I’m Orli, have been using MFP on and off since 2017, using it daily over the last month. Over the last decade, I have lost and gained the same 15 lbs, which might not sound like a lot for most folks, but it adds up when you are only 5 ft tall! Since May 2021, I am down 6.4 lbs, so I am halfway to my goal! Here for accountability, encouragement, and tips. Thanks for having me and know that I’m cheering you all on!! Ps feel free to friend me on the app6
-
We're glad to have you and look forward to getting to know each of you better!
@JCHDog WELCOME! And I have to agree with the coaches about the fad diets! The 3 "rules" or pillars of the UAC are Tracking (track every.single.thing you put into your mouth!!), Calories (you set your own goal, and then you make sure that you stay UNDER it!!), and Exercise (minimum 20 mins/day). These 3 rules seem simple enough..... but it's certainly not easy!
@orliginsburg Orli, we're glad to have you with us as well! That probably is a lot of weight when you're only 5' But being half way to your goal is awesome news! You've come to the right place and will love the encouragement and friendliness in this group. WELCOME!1 -
38 yr old Aussie, Married with a bub. Been here since December 2020. Will think about all my goals for August today. Welcome to the newcomers and hello again to all my uac friends. Xox5
-
My August goals will be the standard 3 UAC goals plus the following personal daily challenges:
- Keeping daily net carbs below 30g since I plan to keep myself in ketosis throughout August.
- Maintaining daily protein intake of 180g or more since I am being very active while in a caloric deficit.
- Eating 5 or more servings of fruits/vegetables per day (I include coconut in this count).
- Getting 15,000 steps or more per day.
- Eating back no more than 30% of my exercise calories per day.
5 -
Hello all. I fell off the wagon of this challenge in July but I’m back for August. Thanks for keeping it going!!8
-
Hi folks I am Kate I have lost track of how long I have been with mfp but I left a couple of times but now I am back to stay! The UAC has helped me be accountable to myself and others we are like a huge family that focuses on health and wellness with a few slips along the way like birthday cake I got 2 this year in July and I can say so far 58 isn’t so bad!
My goal this month is to reduce my carbs spin more and finish a book. I try to read everyone’s posts each night or the following morning and we are all very supportive of one another just remember slow and steady wins the race. Sometimes my slow feels like a crawl as I struggle with severe OA in both my knees and screws from a fractured radial head but it doesn’t keep me down for long always stay focused on what you can do NOT what you can’t. Good luck in August and stay the course!5
