Exercise tonight was unpacking the car and then walking on the treadmill afterwards to get me to 20 mins. Very lonnnnnnggggg day driving 13+ hours, but we're home with no major issues! PTL! I promise to catch up on all your posts tmrw! I've sure missed y'all! π11 -
@jamcnewman @snowshoe072 I missed everyone too and have caught up today (somewhat...I need to read everyone's posts this weekend).
That said, @jamcnewman, I saw you mention protein in the What's On Your Mind thread and happened to reply there lol. And @snowshoe072? I really like this new profile pic!!
As for snacks, I was literally just talking about this with my son (who is now officially in boarding school but comes home on weekends). As of next week, his unrefrigerated "snack box" will likely have his peanut butter Clif Bars, unsalted crackers, maple-covered almonds, aloe juice and canned V8...and whatever else I can think up between now and next Sunday. He has more liberties because he's in a soccer academy so half the day is non-stop movement.
My snacks are either berries and Sesame Snaps (daily) or homemade baked goods (biweekly). Last Friday, I somehow found the time to make banana bread cupcakes topped with cardamom and chocolate covered espresso beans.

@jamcnewman - wow - those articles you referenced are so interesting! A bit shocking too. Thanks for sharing that.
@taurie - ooh - pickles - why haven't I thought of that? Great idea!snowshoe072 wrote: »Snacking hum⦠I would like to think the protein bars whole grain ceral bars etc are healthy but when I read the label on some of them especially the carbs they often go back on the shelf at the store.

Snacking. I have to plan my snacks. I actually struggle to get enough calories in. I do need to include more freggies, thus I stocked up on fresh grapes, apples, and mandarin oranges for this week, and the garden is producing grape tomatoes, green peppers, and cucumbers galore. I get carrots in a 5 lb bag. Hoping to increase my fiber by changing from cheese to fruits and more veggies. Great topic!
Exercise:β gentle short walk, very light housework. Trying to accommodate a bad fibromyalgia day.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, went for a few walks totaling 92 minutes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes I did
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? You bet
Snacks for me just depend on the day, how active I've been, and what I had for meals. I really don't have a set formula or any sort of plan for them, aside from using up whatever is remaining in my calorie budget.
I will basically snack on anything that fits with my budget. Sometimes volume feels more important and in those moments choosing healthier things is going to be best overall, but sometimes I am fine with a smaller portion of something higher in calories, and that's okay for me too.
Before I decided to change my lifestyle, I would eat anything anytime with no regard for whether I was really even hungry or not. The real difference for me now is that I am strict about my calorie budget. And I remind myself there is no food that needs to feel urgent at any time, because another occasion to eat is just around the corner.8 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes.
Did I track everything? Yes.
Did I stay within calorie goals? Alas. It was fairly close, but I snacked. And it came out to a little over.
Snacks. Many times those are what do me in. I don't snack every day, but it's more days rather than fewer. I tend to like sweet. Sometimes salty. Sometimes crunchy. But primarily sweet. Not good. The diet I'm supposed to be following doesn't really lend itself to snacking on anything other than veggies. And my favorite snacking veggie is carrots, which aren't allowed. I can't eat most of my favorite fruits (only allowed half a cup of berries, twice a week). I can eat string cheese (limited), hard boiled eggs (but I eat eggs for breakfast and don't want to overdo them during the day), or meats. I can have sugar free popsicles or sugar free jello. Not always available at the store we go to, but I will get those.
Something else for me to work on. Sigh.8
