This word is used here of God's creative activity alone, although it occasionally is used elsewhere of matter that already existed (Isa. 65:18) Context demands in no uncertain terms that this was a creation without prexisting material (as does other Scripture: Isa 40:78 Isa. 48:8,12 Isa 48:13, Jeremiah 10:16, Acts 17:24
